„Carmen“ is not exactly among my favourite operas... but Riccardo Stracciari ALWAYS makes me listen with two open ears and an open heart, no matter what he sings... 🌹🌹🌹
Thank you so mich for sharing his great recordings! 🙏🍀

Wonderful singing here! Normally this kind of music is really not my thing but I enjoyed this a great deal. Thank you very much!

@@vintagesounds3878 Stunningly good, I'd say! How famous is Stracciari? I don't recall ever having heard of him at all until a little while ago when you added some uploads. Of course, no-one would accuse me of being well-informed about opera!

@@The-Organised-Pianist He was one of the more famous Italian baritones of his day, but there so many then and the competition was fierce. Among the others were Battistini, De Luca, Ruffo, Amato, Ancona, Sammarco, Granforte and I've probably forgotten many others; and that's not counting the French, American, Spanish and German ones.

Opera is not my thing. I really only enjoy Don Giovanni, Fidelio and Carmen. I only have recordings of the first two though must admit to two of the Don [Giullini on LP and Klemperer on CD].
The trouble is finding a recording that I like of Carmen. Something like this would do well!
Thank you for some brilliant singing and music making! I assume the engineers must have wondered if the performers were going to fry their machinery just before the end of the side, but the groove holds up.
    Thanks from George

Have you tried the Beecham Carmen with de los Angeles? It is now over 60 years old, but still beats most of the competition. And I've always thought The Marriage of Figaro the best introduction to Opera for those who do not think they like opera. Figaro and La Boheme were my mother's favourite operas, and I can't argue with that.

@@saltburner2 Last year I was given about 800 LPs. Mostly beyond playable, but a few in mint condition. Among them was a wrecked set of Carmen from Beecham in mono. And in the old days I used to have Figaro from Vittorio Gui [Glyndebourne production], which was fun, but I like the strength of Don Giovanni. A real morality play play set to great. and apt music. I find the Magic Flute weird even if it has so much wonderful music. Mostly I am not all that keen on solo sopranos, though there are exceptions like Flagstad. My favourite soprano recordings are by Flagstad in the songs of Greig and Dido by Purcell.

@@georgejohnson1498 The Glyndebourne Figaro with Gui is a favourite, and it has Jurinac as the Countess - sublime.
Flagstad is a force of nature - Ivor Newton named his home in Kensington 'Kirsten House' in her honour.

@@saltburner2 My three favourite sopranos: Jurinac, Elisabeth Schumann, and Flagstad as all time favourite singer in any register!
Maybe if I ever get to name a house I should call it Kirsten!
      Best wishes from George
