    I just had this procedure at the end of August. I had a laminectomy on my L3 and a discectomy on L4/L5. My leg tingling, weakness & numbness were gone instantly. However the pain levels after surgery was not what I was expecting. Stick to your prescriptions to relieve this pain.

      Omg, no joke.
      L4-l5 / l5-s1. Same story as you. I thought my nerve pain was the worse pain I've been in. He11 no, I couldn't move for 6 hours after surgery no matter how much pain juice they shot in my IV.
      Didn't really need the pills 3 days after at home. I really wanted to finally sht

      Just got told I need this February 20th. I’m worried because a lot of the comments on other videos say it didn’t fix it. Glad yours did. Everything good today?

      @@unixmo5282 Yes. For the first month I could only pickup clothing. The 2nd month, 10lbs, 3rd month 20lbs and so on up to 50lbs. After that cleared. I found that ice packs & SHORT walks helped a lot. Good luck.

    What about the new techniques of endoscopy where only part of the lamina is removed, and more stability is created? Why not discuss this new technique?

    Does a lumbar laminectomy always require removal of bone from at least two vertebrae?

    Does a lumbar laminectomy help to restore bladder functions and reduce or end my leg pain? If I sit I’m uncomfortable, to stand from sitting position I’m in excruciating pain! If I want to lay down or sit my leg bones creek inch by inch with excruciating pain. I need help!

    Do they remove spinous process too as shown in ur video or only lamina

    • @ShimSpineVideos
      @ShimSpineVideos  3 роки тому +3

      Depends on how severe the stenosis and the location. Sometimes, only the hole for the nerve call the foramen is opened. Other times, a wide decompression including removal of the lamina and spinous process is necessary.

    What questions do you recommend the patients to ask for a follow-up visit on the procedure below:
    1. Posterior lumbar decompression via L4 , L5 and S1
    laminectomy, facetectomy and foraminotomy.
    2. Excision of L4-L5 disk herniated fragment on the right
    side.

    How do they decide when it needs a fusion or not?

    • @pointofpersonalprivilege
      @pointofpersonalprivilege 9 місяців тому +2

      Your surgeon can decide with MRI. I'm fairly positive it depends on how beat your disc is and how much pain/weakness you have.
      I was told this. The laminectomy is the 1st operation my surgeon offered me. It can last 2 years, it can last my life. I'm 40, and dealt with back pain for 22 years. The last 3 yrs of pain were messing w my daily life.
      If the laminectomy fails after a certain time is when fusion is offered and is a whole different ballgame than a basic laminectomy.
      Failed back surgery becomes a thing with fusion

      @@Tazz45 After surgery you'll obviously have surgery pain, I wasn't ready for that never having a surgery. It'll hurt for a couple days but you'll notice right away when they decompress that nerve you'll be amazed. Life changing. Stay in shape afterwards you'll be alright. Let me know how you're doing a month after. Good luck 🤜🤛

      @@pointofpersonalprivilege hey hi. I had the surgery everything went well after 3 days the pain of the surgery goes away. The pain I had is gone feel the difference. But now I think I might have to get another surgery because I feel other areas of pain. Most likely cause I had two herniated disc they only did one. Now the area that bothers me is because of the other the hernia is pinching the nerve. But you know doc saying I have to do the protocol therapy in 3 weeks and from there will see.
