4 Days on the Remote Islands of Japan - Oki Islands
- In all the Japan travel I've done in the last 8 years, I've NEVER seen a place like the Oki Islands. Wild horses, rugged cliffs, crystal clear water and waterfalls over temples. Literally, what else could you want! Had so much fun here and highly recommend it to nature and off-the-beaten-track lovers!

I'm Japanese, and I knew that Oki Island had horses unique to the island, but this was the first time I'd seen it on video. Thank you for showing us your video work about your very beautiful and wonderful island✨✨✨ I really like your videos about nature in Japan and New Zealand.☺️
This is Oki. Not Iki.
The most beautiful video ever! The amount of times I said ‘WOW’ was ridiculous 😍
Amazing video. My Japan bucket list is getting longer and longer.
Amazing how different Japan is compared to one's preconceptions.
Wow! I would never have guessed there was such a place in Japan! The range of landscapes they have in that country is just amazing.
It's cuz Japan is a long country. They aren't wide, but long. Even though they are similar in area to Germany, the longer nature of Japan from North to Okinawa, gives them a variety of climates, from cold in Hokkaido to Tropical paradise which is Okinawa.
Wow the cliffs, the horses, everything was so beautiful! 😍And captured so beautifully as well! This one has been added to the list! Also good to know there’s no auto campgrounds.
Wow, I can't wait until I can take another trip to Japan! Such beautiful islands!
Japan is literally Heaven on earth ❤. ... Hope to see Japan remains this elegant and add more more more more Japanese people its declining population..God bless Japan.
That little clip of you two sat together after the sunset was so sweet 😊
It was a lovely evening, sharing a chu hai 🥰
Oki islands old favorites of mine. Wife’s family (on mother’s side) all from there. Noshinoshoma my preference by far. Easily some of the best sea kayaking and snorkeling in Japan in those islands. Go. For sure.
whoa, that was stunning! if it weren't for the ocean and the greenery giving such tropical vibes in the drone shots (which were jaw-dropping), i would've thought the cliffy coasts were straight outta Ireland or the UK or something (Norway, is that what Norway looks like?? hahaha). what an insanely gorgeous spot; thank you for showing it to us!
anyway, i know where i'm going when i retire. i'll be the old white lady who slinks into town to buy a 20-lb bag of rice before disappearing again to my remote cottage overlooking the sea, thanks.
Oh no 😆 I hope you weren’t injured badly!
I love your videos, how you capture the views around you, the colours, everything is sooo mesmerizing 💜
Thank you for making this kind of content, really off the beaten track but still accessible. Love it.
Love the little bow in your hair! So cute!
Absolutely incredible. You captured its beauty so perfectly. As always, thank you for your quality content- we will always be patient! No stress! Appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos 🫶🏽
Cool mix of awesome visuals and travel advice/commentary
Beautiful! When you posted the first images of those meadows by the sea, I was genuinely mystified about how the grass could stay that short... *Of course* it was grazed! Mind you, I grew up around grazing sheep and cows 😅. The sheep grazing the dikes in the Netherlands are nice too, but we can only dream of these kinds of hills and rocks! Love it!
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee that was stunning!!!! so damn cool. What an amazing hidden gem! thanks for taking us all on the adventure
If you asked one of those guys that create landscapes for videogames to design some islands that would be fun to fly around on a FPV VR simulation, they might come up with something like the Oki islands. Beautiful, thanks guys 🙏
Oh you’re so right! There’s a bit of Chris’ FPV work toward the end of the video if you wanna see him have a go 😍 It’s crazy to watch!
Yes, it looked great. Oh, and petting wild horses while on a paddock overlooking some incredible coastal cliffs is *[⊙⊙]** (particularly for those of us that never got to pat one 😔. Nice work with the pixelation too, although at 1st I was thinking of the wrong reason for it... 😏 )
I missed your videos, thank you for making this one!
You guys really found a hidden gem. Thanks for share it with us. We loved the horses. RikiP😊
Content is A1 (as always). Those drone shots are on another level. Really adds to your story telling. Feels like I'm on an adventure with yall.
Watching your videos make me feel like I don't actually live in Japan, but in a good way. I can't wait to go to places I've seen here in your channel
I am going to Japan for my honeymoon and I am so going to buy your travel guide for it! thankyou for showing us such cool places!
You can also see wild horses at Cape Toi in Miyazaki Prefecture.
If you have a chance, please visit there.
Great video Hannah!!! The Oki Islands look incredible!!!
Me and Hannah 🤝 absolutely fizzing over wild horses
That's so beautiful
You got me obsessed!!
When you were posting about the cliffs and horses on Instagram stories I thought you were in Ireland at first! It's funny I feel like the smaller island looks like Ireland but not the first
I kept saying to Chris that it felt like Ireland (even though I’ve never been 😂)
@@CurrentlyHannah Well I can affirm that it definitely looks like Ireland!!
This was so beautifully shot and edited and what a stunning location - great video.
It is easy to distinguish between temples and shrines. The 「Trii」⛩ gate you passed through is proof of the shrine.Thank you for discovering a place that most Japanese people have never been to.
Oh, and of course, if you want to touch a horse, we recommend that you greet them in Japanese and ask for permission in advance.😊❤
Video work is amazing as usual, thanks for the content!
Paddle looks like it would be amazing here.
Great music choices! Great video as always. Some of the island reminds me of the Isle of Skye, but minus the rain and general crumby Scots weather haha.
Dean Newcombe from the Runaway Japan channel had an episode where he a a buddy kayaked to the islands and cavorted with the horses. It was a really compelling series!
Fantastic video as usual ❤❤❤❤❤
AAA been waiting for this video to come out since your ig stories 😭thank you so much for the best videos as always
Hey hannah! There's one place you can check out that's abit like this with rolling green hills, an amazing view and wild roaming samurai horses! It's cape toi in Miyazaki!
Japan does a better job of looking like a beautiful part of the UK than the UK itself.
It's so gorgeous!!
Pure beauty! It's a pity that video is only 15 min
Man, eating lunch was probably not the move while watching the horse segment lol.
Majestic as always
Just phenomenal!
Yall are really gettin in that country with that truck!
Fantastic, and something different too!
Shrine = Shinto (always has a torii gate)
Temple = Buddhist (a couple in Japan have a torri gate because they used to be a combo spot or a shrine)
I came across your channel watching NHL about the Yatsugatake Mountains. Awesome video so now I'm here to see more of your content because we plan on moving there in the future. Currently learning Japanese on my own and wanted to know how long was it before you became comfortable speaking nihongo. 😁🇯🇵🙏🏾
you never disappoint.
Gorgeous spot!
Mind-blowing location...just stunning...incredible video :)
So, so beautiful Hannah! Thank you so much for sharing! 💙💙may I know how you got to shichirui ferry terminal, and which town you have to go to via train before that? Thank you in advance🙏🏻
Sadly I'm the age where when I see the word "Wild Horses" Silence of the Lambs enters my mind 😮😂
I laughed but, I don't think I can ever see the candle stick in a pure sense again :(
That was so amazingly beautiful Hanna, thank you. Cheers, Muffy from Oz (Australia)
Been enjoying your programmes on NHK - those must have been fun but hard work!
unreal!!
Pog video
Beautiful ❤
No matter where you are, around the world, farts are always funny. :D
I hope I never stop finding them funny 😆
Hello nice Video cool 😊
Mongolian horses looks similar, i think
9:54 That horse is a Nikon user
would love to know which songs you used without having to sign up to Musicbed
You would absolutely love Scotland! It's even more beautiful! Hardly any people, castles, breathtaking scenery, cliffs, mountains, sea, ocean, lots of cows, sheep, horse...white sand beaches...you name it! If you guys ever decide to do a road trip here, let me know and I'll send you a list with some very nice places you wouldn't want to miss.
Damn that sounds beautiful!
Need help with identifying all the music used! haha
Haha all i saw was the middle finger
Not really wild horses given how indifferent they were to you being there. Probably somewhere in the middle between wild and broken for riding.
Yeah as I said in the video, they’re tended to by workers of the government but they’re definitely not ridden.
Hi Hannah!! Do you also work for CrackerMilk? Or… you have a twin

Why not to build your own village in countryside of Japan with your friends and invite people from your country 🔵 There are a lot of abandoned Houses in countryside of Japan 🔵
Wild horses should not be petted. I think you are setting a bad example here.
wow it looks a lot like NZ eh!~
