I remember when hot rod magazines marveled about 500hp street machines. Now my dish washer has 500hp.
yeah here I am shooting for 600, makes me feel a little boring.
😂😂
pssssh my uncle's friend's dishwasher makes 750. He used to give people rides on it, and put a hundred dollar bill on the back, and he would say "son you can have that 100 bucks if you can grab hold of it in the middle of an aggressive power wash cycle." *adjusts boomer jeans and laughs to myself* Nobody ever did get that hundred bucks. Sheeee-oooot. Jangle muh spurs! : p

Richard Holdener is a legend. Imagine how much time and money he has saved car guys around the world from buying and testing parts by doing the work for us. 👏
Richard lives the next town up from me. Real nice guy and very knowledgeable. He made boring High School classes more entertaining reading his magazine articles.
"Flip flops and big blocks" ~David Freiburger 2020

"it only needs 50 HP" *300 HP gain on the next pull
Richard is such a cool guy I swear. That’s the kind of friends you want!!
I am blessed to see Motor Trend continuing with tried-and-true American kind-of-old-school stuff. It is quite heartening to see they have not jumped on the electric bandwagon in any sense.
Seeing Richard on here. Ade my whole morning. By far my favorite guy to listen to and learn about ls power combos
I remember dragsters on nitromethane making almost 1500 hp in 1953. These are the good old days.
Now they make over 12000
Richard is awesome, that guy puts in a zillion hours to make the amount of videos he puts out " Richard Holdener " UA-cam . Excellent channel
Very excellent. Honest as well. Not advertising 20 thousand dollar engines
Yeah agreed but homeboy talks to much
Richard never got around to the Gen6 454 big block big bang pt.2.... Bet it'll wipe the floor with the LS platform. Pt.1 had already made 1,200hp and over 1,300 ft lbs tq. It needs to be revisited.
Absolutely 👍
Who would've ever thought a big block would make more power than a small block 🤯
"I didn't see the numbers, I was looking at the air fuel ratio" respect.
Engine Masters is the Best show on MotorTrend IMO!

Just watch Richard holdner videos. He's 10 times better than engine masters
I smiled when he talked about the vacuum pump. Everyone looks at me like I'm nuts but honestly if you want better ring seal and cleaner intake (no grimy PCV oil), why wouldn't you?
Well, depending on your application, exhaust scavenging can be an excellent alternative that doesn't require a 'heavy' pump and the associated wiring. I think the moral of your story is just to pull a vacuum on your crankcase. If so, my sentiments exactly.
People can hate all they want on the "LS based" engines, but this it exactly why they are so popular.
I remember when 500hp was a lot I can’t imagine these motors talk about letting a monster loose
I LOVE IT!!!! You guys did your homework and it paid off big time!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Thanks for the kind words. Make your day better by serving others!! God Bless
Nice Engine Freiburger. Glad to see people still building the SBC
Motortrend: 1500HP
Also Motortrend: not enough
Lolllll none of these guys ever drove this amount of power lmao!!!they jump and scream when they run high 11s...i laugh because im just a second away from their ET with a stock honda engine hahahah
Love to see Richard on the show.
A reliable 1k horsepower, you have my attention.
Watching Freiburger picking up that BBC oil sump and seeing it dwarf his entire head and body made me realise just how gigantic American "big block" engines really are. Compared to that my little 235ci Rover looks like a toy model!
About the 200 engine theroy thats the exact thing I've done with my Rb. Expensive bottom end good top end. Moderate boost close to max stock ecu hp. It will do everything with no issues 😁
How long can an engine live with that power m like it would be awesome to see an episode on what it looks like after a long service life .. what will actually help it last?
I would really really love to see the difference in reverse flow heads
1000-1500 is massive but I imagine that the rod and main bearings need replaced frequently.
That moroso pump has been a great pump for years I've used them in sbc
My car with 1.6 engine makes 102 HP.
I find this kind of power from this Engine Masters beyond my mind.
My 2.4 makes 160ish, Toyota?
My l4 2.4l Toyota makes 142hp at the crank stock, but its has mods on it now, Yeee!!😁
The amount of power we can get from engines today is insane, 4 cylinders pushing 500+ whp? straight 6 engines pushing 1200+, its a great world to be in if you're an engine guy!
1.6l 3 cylinders pushing 300hp
@@crazeguy26 or 2.0 pushing 600...
Turbos are easier on the bottom end because of drive pressure. Blown Pro mod hemis need the pan pulled and bearings every run. When you trade the blower for a hair dryer you can go 30 runs with out pulling the oil pan.
Lol 30 runs? Maybe a 3000 and 4000 hp
This was my favorite show on Utoob.
... until I found Richard's channel.
Where I need more of this 🤣
@@haydenmadigan8186 Richard Holdener youtube channel. It's a deep rabbit hole of dyno tests. Amazing info for LS stuff.
He is the man
@@Jr_5646 not just ls stuff he has small block and big block fords olds Buick’s caddy in line 6 man does everything
@@Tripledoffroadbbq Yea, I know. He has Honda B and K series engine videos too. Dude's a legend. LS/LT stuff is my lane, so I guess that's why I focus on that.
Hate to break it to you guys, and I love my LS powered Fox, but the first Gen Shelby GT500 5.4 will hold up to more power than any of the LS motors you’ve tested not just stock bottom end, but stock longblock all together. Take the blower off, add a pair of snails, you can make 1200-1400whp without touching the internals. We made a customer 1170whp with twin 6870 PTE turbos through a Glide, so that would be even more through a 6 speed and there was more power to be made at that point. LS mills aren’t the only engines that can make huge power stock, they just do it the most budget friendly.
Hate to break it to ya but he’s done well over 1500 on a stocker 😅.
Hate to break it to ya but these are pick up truck engines. What you’re saying would be more akin to using zl1 or zr1 engines. .....which would easily do it. There's a slb cts v out there making over 1200whp.
@@HioSSilver1999There are plenty of stock engine LS making that much power out there yes. I’m talking unopened though. 100% untouched. You’re not making anything except maybe a hero pass with a stock truck motor at that power level unless you at least do cam/springs and add ring gap at a minimum. And that’s not “stock”.
I’d love to sit down with Rich and pick his brain. Loads of stuff to learn.
Richard is awesome im subscribed to both channels lol
Ricahrd there was a Ford 351/535 hp low buck build by Bob Lathrop, 351 wicked windsor, hydraulic cam and all could you do a feature of this very low buck build-up.
We had a 200 mph car back in 87. Top end.
They didn’t mention...but would someone know if this is a truck 6.0 block?
Wonder about the stock 5.4 Ford 4 cam in a Ford GT?
Hard to find in the junkyard, but think it would do amazing job?
Like to see some magnum engines get this treatment Yah know the other family, their small block .. lol I have a 99 rt and I couldn’t be more impressed with its 175,000 performance
Best show on motor trend. Informative and fun.
Back in the bad old days of the Killer B rally cars, Fiat Lancia made a intake system they called volumex, which was I believe a 2.2 liter with two turbos and a supercharger on top of it! They even when Sia claimed made 850 horsepower. This enabled the Stratos to do 0 to 60 in 3 seconds in sand! Have you ever tried putting both a turbo, or turbos, and a supercharger on top of an engine?
@Leroy Baker this is why God made intercoolers!
That's called twincharged
@@xmo552 fiat/labia called it volumex

Why pull the pro charger off? Seems like it didn't add much anyway?
Larry kruzak was the guy we knew. He founded cad hi po 500 parts back in 84.
We also knew the guys from mts in Massachusetts.
Bv
We made about 2000 hp back in 1988. A 427 bbc, steel caps, block filler, 36 pound boost, alky. 600 nos. Gm steel crank, 8500 rpm. Twin 1050 carbs.
Bloodviking
That last engine was the best
Ah 2 questions what turbos are on the LS motor and what heads are on the big block ?? Great video by the way !! This helps us wrecking yard dwellers !!
The 30yr old Stanley screwdriver got me
Help me out. If you pull vacuum on the head how does that help seal the rings. It seems like you would be pulling oil past the rings.
Why didn’t you run the Big Block with MPi? That's easily another 100hp, with higher compression and more ignition advance?
Well ...Just how much would that engine cost to build ????
You guys opened up the end gap on the rings though right?
Dry ice 👍
Water level doesn’t change
I am not very smart with power adders, but I have always wondered how with boost an LS can make so much power over 1500 hp but not with NOS? Why cant you spray 1000hp NOS on the same combination of LS that is building 1500hp turbo?
This is why procharger is 👑 king
What makes a pro charger the best?
I am planning a similar dart block build.. Their base 350CI 1pc seal block, AFR comp 195's or maybe the 210's... 10psi D1SC straight non intercooled into a 9.5:1 comp with a comp bumpstick like a XFI 292...
If it will make 550hp at the wheels, heck i'd be happy... The TKX tranny can only handle 650 i think anyways...
He's the junkyard turbo king
Taking power out of a motor...never thought I'd see the day...
Love that big block motor
Richard you are the best 👍👍👍👍
What about using the A/C for an intercooler? Could it cool the air charge enough to recover from the parasitic loss of the A/C compressor?
the thing needs to be huge to compensate something like 2000Liters of air per second warming up tens of degrees at that rate. That thing melts ice like crazy. Think how long the warm water needs to be in a huge refridgerator, to get back to ice? You need like a 100horsepower refridgerator, which is going to maybe add power afterall, but its going to be bigger than a roots blower, and need more coolant than the ice-bucket.
Neither is good for endurance racing, ice is pretty good for drag/topspeed stuff. Endurance guys need to deal with ambient-air-intercoolers
I was hoping this colab would happen
What's up with the balaclava he was wearing towards the end? I had to take a second look before I noticed what was going on! 🤣
I need your advice, David

Should of done thie with the Chrysler 318 family of engines
RICHARD, HERE IS MY QUESTION TO YOU AND I HOPE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS DOESN'T GET IN THE WAY OF CAUSING YOU TO TELL A FIB. IS THE LS PLATFORM STRICKLY BASED ON FORD DESIGNS OF THE 427 HIGH RISER/351WINDSOR?????????
@C03 EVERYTHING USED BY CHEVY IN RACING TODAY IS ALL FORD BASED FROM THE R07 NASCAR ENGINE TO THE DRCE PROSTOCK ENGINE TO ALL THE SYMETRICAL HEAD RACING ENGINES TO THE MOUNTAIN MOTORS.
I WILL START WITH THE LS HEAD. PUT YOUR FINGER INTO A LS HEAD THEN INTO A FORD WINDSOR HEAD AND THE INTAKE RUNNER CURVES INTO THE INTAKE VALVE WHICH IS A SPIRAL INDUCING COMBUSTION CHAMBER. THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AND ITS A FORD DESIGN. THE WINDSOR HEAD VALVE WAS STRAIGHTER FOR BETTER FLOW AT 20 DEGREES. AND GM TOOK IT TO 18 DEGREES. THE LS HEAD IS ALSO ,BASED ON THE FORD 427 HIGH RISER ENGINE WHERE THE INTAKE RUNNERS ARE RAISED UP GIVING THE AIRFLOW A STRAIGHT SHOT INTO THE CYLINDER, ANOTHER FORD ENGINEERED DESIGN. THE LS ALSO HAS A ANGLE PLUG LIKE A FORD. IT ALSO USES THE KIDNEY SHAPE COMBUSTION CHAMBER OF THE FORD 427 HIGH RISER WHICH DATES BACK TO THE 1960-1 HI-PER FORD 390. YOU CAN SIT SCREAMING BANGING YOUR SPOON ON YOUR HIGH CHAIR DENYING THE LS IS ALL FORD IN DESIGN. BUT IT WILL NEVER CHANGE THE FACT OF WHAT CHEVY DID TAKING DESIGNS FROM FORD. NEXT WE WILL GO ON TO THE BLOCK.
@@Frank289100 Why did you bother asking? Also, your caps lock is on.
@C03 YOU GIVEN ME NOTHING HERE BUT NELSON RACING ENGINES? SAW THAT 2 YEARS AGO ABOUT THE LS AND EVEN COMMENTED ON IT, BUT IT SEEMS THEY REMOVED BY COMMENT TO HIDE THE TRUTH.
@C03 ALSO SAW THAT KATECH VIDEO BUT YOU STILL HAVEN'T GIVEN ME ANYTHING. SO HERE IS ANOTHER QUESTION: GIVE ME 1 ONE DESIGN ASPECT IN THE LS THAT CAME FROM THE OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY. DON'T COME BACK WITH THE BULLSHIT, TELLING ME THE ROD BEARING ARE THE SAME AND ALSO THE PUSHRODS. I WANT A DESGN ASPECT TAKEN FROM THE OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY THAT LIVES IN THE LS?
@@mattteee2973 HERE IS A QUESTION FOR YOU MATT: WHY DID CHEVY SCRAP IT'S CONVENTIONAL ENGINE DESIGN AND REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER CONVENTIONAL DESIGN TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL?
Wish he would do a gen3 coyote I know 1250 whp was done a while back on a turbo daily. Have not seen one pushed to fail yet
I wanna see a modern hemi on boost 5.7 6.4
What about 5.9 Cummins ? Or dt466? I know quite a few diesels that can get over 1500 on stock bottom end.
An 8.3 cummins might, I really doubt you could make a 5.9 hold up long enough to spool that much
Ok, All else being equal, how much manifold pressure does it take to double hp from natural aspiration?
N.A. is 1 Bar, double N.A. pressure your at 2 Bar.
