The cops have him willingly speaking to them, not under arrest. This is the best way to get info. Once they arrest him, they have to read him his rights and he could request not to speak until he has a lawyer.
Obvious to anyone with a brain. Somehow everyone is propagandized into thinking Cops are Heros who's job is to beat up bad guys. Just not the case is it.
@user-ye4bu6xh4cCorrection, they have to read him the Miranda rights only is they arrest him and plan to ask questions. They can still arrest him and not read him his rights if they plan on no questions being asked.
One of the reasons they don't arrest someone right away is to keep them talking.
If they arrest him right away he has to have an attorney present during questioning.
If they don't arrest him they can ask him questions on multiple occasions looking for him to change his story.
Change it, or stick to it so verbatim it's obviously rehearsed.
I think they didn't arrest him instantly because the conversation was going well and he was talking, so they wanted him to keep talking to try and get as much info as possible. As long as he thinks he's not under arrest he'll keep thinking he can talk his way out of it and hopefully he'll end up saying something that incriminates him. Once you put the cuffs on him he'll probably stop talking as much..
One thing I've learned about questioning a suspect is as long as they're talking you let them keep talking, because eventually they'll talk themselves into a corner.
This is why I was so so picky about who I left my kid with. This is absolutely disgusting! I’m mad at the mom. I know that times can be hard and you got to work but why would you leave your kid with this idiot? I just get a horrible gut feeling about him.
FYI, I looked up the details and he got a 1st degree child abuse felony charge and a 100k bond was placed. The kid was 2 yrs old. Haven't seen any updates on sentencing. The CPS nurse said it looked like he was trying to circumcise the kid...

It's DCF and the investigators are called CPIs. I work at DCF but in a different office.

There is no benefit in detaining the suspect as this time. The point of law enforcement in this situation isn't to rough up or punish the suspect. Their goal is to gather evidence for the prosecution, it has been shown in countless studies that criminals have a tendency when kept comfortable to self-snitch. Why risk scaring and shutting up the suspect, as long as they want to talk, and they aren't a threat to anyone immediately. Let em talk, let em self snitch. Use your head and leave whatever fantasy world you think this is. Cops aren't here to serve and protect.

I dont know how it is there but usually when they arrest someone the clock is starting until they need to be finish, so its better to get most of the evidence before the arrest.
Never saw this, but I vaguely remember this being on the news last year.
Who in their right mind sees cops out front and doesn't even think, "maybe I should put a shirt on before I go talk to them."

The more the guy talks the better. No need to arrest him yet because that brings legal implications and rules. The entire conversation in on video and all of it will be allowed to be used in court.

Until they arrest him, anything he says can be used against him. Lots of people talk themselves into trouble. Also, in the interim, the police can serve warrants to search the property, get statements from people who know the individual, etc. If you want to make sure that he is held without bonding out, you need to give him enough room to lock him up. He can plead Not guilty, but the video and pictures will likely send him to prison.

No offense to the mother, but leaving her son with this animal to begin with was a bad effin idea. Surely there were some elderly neighbors who would have watched him.

I thought that as well, but we don't know the circumstances or their relationship. I'm sure she feels guilty enough knowing what happened to her kid with someone she obviously trusted...even if the trust was misguided.

I've heard of putting soap on kids' mouths as punishment but not babies. A 2-year old cannot speak and swear.
Exactly. My southern grandparents did it to me and my brother once or twice when we were in like 2nd and 3rd grade. And in elementary they’d put hot sauce on my brothers nail area to stop him from biting his nails. And he would be in pain crying. So I know it happens sadly

I would advise not going down this area of content. I work in victim services--there are far darker violent acts perpetrated on babes and younger children. Sometimes they survive; sometimes they do not. The perpetrators are people who should care and protect them but fail--totally. Some of the cases on YT, I believe would be traumatic viewing. Be safe. Be kind to yourselves.
It could be a year or two b4 anything dets resolved, maybe longer it IS FLoriDUH after all.
Looks like he posted bond so he's home for the next year until trial.
