It's been over 20 years since I've been there on a field trip, sure looks a lot different. The steam train ride I recall having possibly a yellow colored engine and the cars didn't have roofs on them. Also the area looks to have grown in a lot but nicely maintained. I see they've built a shed for their "new" locos. Nice to see they were saved from the scrap pile. The coal tunnel hasn't changed much, still amazing as always. I like how they added a demonstration of how the blasting worked.
I can't thank you enough again for putting the meet-ups together. A year ago....I wasn't even watching UA-cam videos and now everything has changed. My daughter and I had so much fun...Your perspective as usual is awesome!! You are truly and artist JP....
Took a mine tour when we were in AZ in the 70s. wasn't claustrophobic then. Still had panic attack when they turned off the lights to prove a point. Could never take another tour today. Am totally claustrophobic and prone to anxiety attacks. Hope you all had a good time.
Wow I wish I could have been there to experience that. I have so many in my family that were miners. It was a hard life to live way back when. All the men in my family died from black lung. The stories my mother would tell me about her life in coal camps during the great depression were just heart breaking. I would love to experience going into a mine just to see first hand what my grandfather and great grandfathers as well as many unckes had to indure. Loved the video. That view y'all had over the mountain was so beautiful. 👍✌👍
Wow, that was really awesome for me to see that mine again. I went their when I was 10 years old in 1965 on a school field trip. That caused me to have a life long interest in mining. Now I mine for gold out here in Colorado. I don't remember the ride being so rough though. And at the end of the Lokie trip we could dig around the waste rock piles for fossils. Totally awesome JP !

Cool video !! The mine tour was AWESOME !! LOVE the sound of that steam whistle !! Really cool history !! Loved the pictures at the end !! Amazing abandoned in the 30's and reopened in the 60's for people to tour wonder how much repair it needed ? Great video as always !! Really enjoyed it !! 👍👍👍
I enjoyed this video but I was happy to be seated in my living room while YOU bounced along the track! This was very informative and a bit scary too. I don't handle closed-in places well. Makes me admire the coal workers though. Really liked the Henry Clay Steamtrain ride (since it WAS above ground)! Beautiful scenery this time of the year. And the story of the purchase of the 2 trains for $1200 and now worth a quarter million was mind-blowing! So happy they were saved so folks can actually see a working one today!
This was an extremely interesting video. My grandfather worked in the mines for a good portion of his life. I remember him taking me to the Loomis, Huber, and Sugar Notch mines and showing me how some of it all worked. I now have a greater appreciation of what he did down in those mines.
Great video! I felt like I was on that bumpy ride with you all. LOL. This was very informative. I'm so glad you had a nice turnout. Really nice to put faces to names. I know I say this all the time, but it is so true. You take the most beautiful photos. I had so many favorite photos in this one. I couldn't pick just one. Loved the Wishing Well photo, and all the steam train photos. Just beautiful. LOL @RJ. He's so funny!!! RJ, feed your dog, and if you're going to bring a date, you could at least take her on the tour with you. LOL Thank you, JP. Amazing.

Can't say mines are my favorite, I'm claustrophobic, but it was neat to see on camera. Loved the old train, it's so amazing it was saved. Nothing like the sound of the old whistles on these antique trains. See you in the funny papers.
