Design a Dress with Pintucks by Rotating the Bust Dart - Part 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 сер 2024
- Today on Fit Tip Tuesday I'm working with my fitted shirt pattern to create a knee length dress. See how to rotate a bust dart to create a new style. Half of the dart intake is rotated to the shoulder to create the ease I need along the shoulder to create pintucks. The other half is rotated down to the lengthened hem to create an A-Line Shape. I'm also changing the neckline! Join me for Fab Fit Friday to see how I finish up this pattern and test fit it. I'll also share the fabric I'm going to make the final version out of!

So happy to see something a little complicated than what is offered on most channels. Can’t wait to see the final result! Thanks.
:) I think this one will be worth the effort!! Thanks for following along with me!!
I love the look of pin tucks in clothing. I am making a dress with pin tucks out of a cotton gauze.
Cotton Gauze is a great choice for this style dress!!! Love it, thanks for watching
Brilliant. Watched while eating breakfast and now need a lie down for my brain to recover 😂❤
:))) That's how I felt when I finished shooting this tutorial... I outline things in my mind before I get on camera. Then I just start shooting... It can be a lot to keep track of while also sharing it in an order that makes sense!! Thanks for watching
I love rhis idea. So simple and elegant. Looking forward to Friday and to trying this myself.
Thanks so much! I'm excited to see how it comes out!! See ya soon!
Thank you, will watch Friday.
My Pleasure, See ya Friday! Thanks for watching
Excellent timing Jen. I had been thinking the way forward for me to get a more flattering fit would be pintucks. I have a tunic that fits quite well so will follow along and give this a try. 😊
Yay! I think all those little vertical lines are going to be our friends... Stay tuned for more progress! Thanks for watching
I'm really looking forward to Friday and seeing more. I recently found a vintage tucker foot that will fit my Elna Supermatic, and this was a really helpful demonstration on how I might be able to accommodate tucks into my garments. I realize that I will be working with slightly larger tuck, but I am assuming the principles will be that same.
:) Yes... the math will be a little different - just divide the amount added to the shoulder by the total width of your pintuck to see how many you can make... Also, you can slash vertically down the pattern and spread it to add more ease if you need more pintucks. Thanks for following along!
I love pintucks! This is something I am going to try.
:)))) I'm having fun with this one!! Thanks for watching
Really looking forward to Friday!😁
Me too! I'm excited about this project :)) See ya soon!
I love pintucks on blouses, dresses.
I used to have a top that had pintucks shaping it like this... I loved it and literally wore it to death! I'm excited to work on this :) Thanks for following along!
I love the dresses with pin tucks but haven’t tried them yet. It amazes me how you can change a pattern in so many ways. I’m looking forward to see how the dress turns out.
:) This is going to be a fun project for me! Stay tuned!! Thanks for watching
Oh! I saw a top with pleats that i wanted to recreate... now just need an updated woven bodice that fits first....
This is a fun project!! There are links to the pattern I'm working with in the description if you can't find one in your stash!! Thanks for watching
I'm excited to see this finished!!
Me too!! This is a fun one for me :) Thanks for watching
Cool!
Thanks!!
Super cool! I want to do this! ❤❤❤❤
Draft along with me!! I'll share everything else I did to the pattern pieces on Friday Thanks for watching
Pin ticks are not for me but I want to see magic happen!❤
:) see ya Friday!
I am all in for linen pin tucks! Why do you pivot at the bust point instead of the apex?
Cool tool, pin tuck foot
Good question. Now I'm curious too.
That's a great questions. I pivoted at the tip of the dart because I'm closing the dart. If you pivot at the apex you're removing some additional vertical length. That's the same principle as closing the dart to create a princess seam. :) Hope this helps, thanks for drafting along with me!
@@JSternDesigns This makes sense, can you go over it in Friday's live? I will look at my copy of your bodice tutorial.
Blinker?
Nope... All those little vertical lines will be slenderizing (I hope :))) Thanks for watching
