    Orlit Rovelight 610 Description from Adorama:
    In fact, it is the only 600ws wireless TTL monolight that that breaks the Canon RT barrier and also works on Nikon wireless systems. What more could you want? How about an outstanding Guide Number of 201 (ft at ISO 100), with manual levels from full to 1/256 power with fine 0.1 stop graduations. And stop action 'Freeze Mode' down to 1/19000th of a second and HSS built to rival even the most difficult challenges. More? An App and a Studio Remote How about a 6000mAh Lithium-ion interchangeable battery that packs up to 450 full power pops to give you total 600wsfreedom, anywhere, with a built in power level display. And, to top it all off, the ORLIT TR-611C and TR-612N remotes not only transmit to the Rovelight RT, but manually controls the famous Flashpoint Rovelight 600 monolight.
    This compact monolight is not only the answer for all those loyal Canon RT TTL owners longing to have a more extensive and powerful lighting solution, without losing the wireless control in which they have already invested, but at the same time, this powerful package is the perfect companion for Nikon users with the ORLIT TR-611C TTL TRANSCEIVER atop their DSLR's. Plus, using the new ORLIT RT-600C Canon TTL or 600N Nikon TTL Speedlights, extends the remote monolight's possibilities even further, just like a Canon or Nikon flash, with 5 Groups in 15 Channels, and a special GR Mode where each member of the group can be independently set to mix of Manual or TTL automation. The use of the ORLIT TR-611C or 612-N remote adds 980ft/300m remote freedom without a speedlight to provide full TTL / Remote Manual / HSS, in 3 individual groups, with backward compatibility to legacy Flashpoint Rovelight and the above mentioned HSS link to Canon and Nikon cameras
    The Orbit Rovelight RT-610's user interface design features a large clear full color LCD display, simplified menu system, and generous power and function control dial, graced by soft menu touch control buttons for all options. Future technologies and camera sync are firmware updated through the USB port. The radio modes are 4: C-Canon, N-Nikon, TRS-Flashpoint Rovelight (in Manual), and A6-HSS function for Nikon or Canon.
    HSS Mode allows shutter speeds to 1/8000 through pulsing its light between the quickest focal plane shutter gate. The monolight can regulate flash duration (t0.5), by means of the manual output, from a rich 1/800s to an action arresting 1/8000s. To really capture the split second event, the Freeze Mode achieves an additional reach to just 1/19000s while still at a color balanced 5500 degree Kelvin.

    Be advised that the Orlit RT610 Will NOT work with the Yongnuo 600RT speedlights. I tested it myself. For whatever reason it only works with original Canon 600RT speelights. I have seen videos on the internet where there is another Chinese 600RT stlyle flash that does work with the Orlit but the Yongnuo does not. Otherwise great video. I've been waiting for this comparison. Keep up the good work.

      Hi there! I do have 2 Yongnuo 600RT's which work fine with the Rovelight RT610. Just make sure the channels and ID's are all the same on the Rovelight RT610 and the YN600EX-RT's and you should be fine. I do have the TR-Q6 trigger and they work great. I hope this helps.

    • @grandmasterphill

      Yongnuo probably updated the firmware. Or Maybe Jinbei/Orlit updated theirs. The Yongnuo 600RTs that I own were bought in late 2015 and they definitely do not control this Orlit. However, the Orlit TR-Q6 trigger, that Adorama presently bundles with the Orlit Rovelight RT610, controls my Rovelight, my Yongnuo RT speedlites and my Canon RT speedlites. So its a good idea to get that bundle if you decide to buy the Orlit.

      besides the TR-Q6 trigger that i have already for a sony body, is there Youngnuo trigger that's compatible with a sony camera and would work with the speedlights as well? or would the tr q6 work independently with the speedlights without purchasing another trigger just for the speedlights.

    Welcome back, Robert. It's been too long between videos.
    FWIW: The annoying ratcheted stand mounts found on the Godox AD600, AD-H600B, AD-B2, and the myriad S-Type brackets can be easily converted to "clickless" operation by removing the two toothed plastic disks inside the mount and inserting one appropriately sized rubber washer or disk cut from rubber gasket material. For best hold, I did have to Dremel off the plastic ridge that keeps the toothed disks centered.
    I've converted the mounts on multiple S-type brackets, an AD-H600B, and an AD-B2 thus far. The modified S-type brackets were tested with my 71" Rimelite deep parabolic softbox and there was no slipping. Note that the modification is completely reversible so don't lose the little toothed plastic disks.

    Thank you for your review of these capable units. As a cross-platform user with both Canon and Nikon cameras, there is an advantage to having the Orlit Rovelight. On the unit itself, you can switch between Nikon, Canon, Sony and Fuji. That means one studio set up for all those brands (TTL for Nikon and Canon). All you need is a different transmitter. I have been a Canon shooter for years and recently added Nikon into my equipment stable. I purchased a TR-Q6N for Nikon and bam... studio lights for both brands. I use my ST-E3-RT to control the Rovelights with 3 Canon 430EX-RTs and 600EX-RTs when using Canon. Switch over and use the TR-Q6N on Nikon for the Orlit. I do agree that Orlit needs to bring back a speed light for Nikon to add flexibility.

    • @aaronyue5695
      @aaronyue5695 6 років тому

      Sorry, some of you will immediately point out that I could do the same by getting a different XPro transmitter for Godox to be cross-platform. My point is that the Orlit also integrates with existing Canon RT Speedlites for extra flexibility.

    Great review! I shoot Canon and Sony and went with the Orlit Rovelight rt 610 ttl and I couldn't be happier (Adorama has had 2 crazy sales with them this year and I took advantage of both. I picked up 4 lights for less than the cost of an equivalent number canon 600 EX II RT's). Like yourself, I've found the color temp and power output to be very consistent. With the recent firmware upgrades the lights work flawlessly in HSS with both systems. I haven't had a chance to test the ttl yet. I have also found the battery life to be fantastic, I don't even drop below half charge on a location shoot. I'm also a big fan of the Cheetahstand quick softboxes, I know you like those as well. Keep up the good work!

      @@jasonsborean Funny you should ask that, I had two of my battery release buttons break today. It sucks because the batteries are still working flawlessly in terms of power. Now I have to gaff tape those two batteries to keep them in place. They still work that way. Every light system has weaknesses and these seem to have potential problems with the battery clip. I've read about people having problems with batteries even on high end models from Profoto and others. At least these batteries are a little less than half the price of those.

    I know this is a bit late to comment to this video, but I'm curious, Robert Hall or anyone else who may have tried: How well do the Orlit Rovelight strobes work with the low profile Bowens mounts (such as from Cheetahstand)? The strobe tubes seem to stick out even less than the Godox AD600 strobes that the low profile mount is designed for, so it seems like it would be even more beneficial so long as they work.

    Love your lighting reviews. I'm still more than happy with Godox's system, the AD600 in particular. I use the single extension on my AD600 making it really easy to mount my strobe high up on a boom arm with no weight concerns. Good to see alternatives out there however, keeps Godox on their toes. Any chance you'll be reviewing the Interfit Honeybadgers at some point?

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  6 років тому

      That extension head option makes a massive difference for people who are using them outdoors. I find it very scary to walk away from either of these when they are on top of a stand (even a C stand with a big enough softbox). The remote heads make them much more useable with or without an assistant.

    I just purchased a Neewer Vision5 400W TTL for CANON and will receive it tomorrow, after a little more research I found the Orlit RT601 with a trigger for about the same price on Adorama. Seriously considering return the Vision5 and going with the Orlit, The main differences being 400Ws vs 500Ws and no TTL for the Orlit (which doesn't bother me). The Orlit also comes with a case where the Vision does not. I shoot primarily real estate but am venturing towards portraits.... Any thoughts on this?

    When trying to figure out an affordable fast Stobe to get for freezing action I found that the ORLIT lists there duration as t.5 and not a t.1... Where does that really leave it in comparison to say a E640? Is it the best budget option for speed? Which is faster? Godox/Flashpoint or the Orlit?

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  5 років тому

      As a general rule, you can multiply the the t.5 by 3 to get a t.1 estimate.
      The bigger issue is that you'd have to know how output compares to really make a judgement about which offers shorter durations.

    Finally, thank you so much for these detailed information on these 2 lights, I'm still struggling to choose which one to go since the Orlit RT610 has freeze mode for my "action portrait photos" while the Xplor 600 doesn't, but can I get the same "freeze mode" result if I use a faster shutter speed with HSS on Xplor 600?

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  6 років тому

      You can freeze action using HSS and fast shutter speed as well, but it’s always more capable and efficient to use a short flash duration. If ambient light is not affecting your photo, then you can basically consider the flash duration your shutter speed. So a 1/19000 flash duration is faster than any HSS + high shutter speed can achieve. Both have their applications depending on the environment you are shooting in

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  6 років тому

      Also, the Xplor is no slouch, with a 1/10,000 lowest flash duration. For most purposes in action sports they would achieve similar results. I would be willing to bet the next Xplor update (due first quarter of 2018) will likely have a freeze mode.

    • @jasonsborean
      @jasonsborean 5 років тому

      Robert Hall Photography the specs say they are IGBT... but they also say the duration is t.5 and not t.1. Is ‘freeze’ mode 1/19000 in t.1?

      Yes they have a Sony trigger, but there is no flash to be used in conjunction with it.

    How can you see the LCD power setting when you want the light to come from above? I would never buy a back LCD but only one on the side

      The whole purpose of these lights with full radio control integrated is that you don't have to touch or see the LCD on the strobe.
