Hook turns are to save time on intersections with tram lines, so that trams are not delayed by other road vehicles . Other interesting things - . In a cafe, if you order Chai or Chai latte and you'll get spices added in hot milk. If you order tea, all you'll get is a tea bag and hot water, the same applies for English Breakfast which is a tea flavour and not brekkie!
Hook turn mainly in Victorian roads. Normal turn U turn from right end to the right.
Whereas hook turn,in green signal U go straight and wait in other intersection from Ur left lane, U can continue right only in green signal on right.
Arvo- afternoon,tradie- trade person, chippy - carpenter, sparky- electrician, straya- Australia, bricky- brick layer.

Ha ha! I am imagining the Mohanlal scene! By the way, there are a few Aussie only slangs: Arvo for Afternoon! Bogan: Country fellow (uncivilised I mean), Chockers means Full! Mozzie for Kochi"s favourite ( Mosquito)/ For Kangaroo they just say Roo!! And of course there so many others - these are but some! Now I need a slab (Slab means two dozens of beer!!). Please correct me if I erred!

I’ve once had an experience hearing one short form when a ball rolled under a car . My friend told its under “veedub” It meant the ball is under the Volkswagon Car 🥱🥱🥱🥱. Also Regarding the toilets it was an 😲😲😲for me too . Later understood that here the water we waste is also charged . May be because of that . More toilets more waste . At my workplace most of them jog or cycle to the hospital take a morning shower and start the job and like wise when going back have their dinner at 5.30 - 6 ish in the hospital . Going home fresh Straight to bed .

Hook turns are used in those intersections where you would need to cross tram lines to turn right. In such intersections, it is not practical to turn right at a green light, coz you may turn into the path of a speeding tram - which has also got a green signal to go straight. It thus makes perfect sense to be 'hook-turning' at such intersections, for everyone's safety.

Australia-il recently kanduvarunna trend aanu door illaattha bathroom. Try to visit big display homes in new housing estates in outer suburbs. You will be able to see the open plan attached bedrooms . There won't be any door between the bedroom and its attached bathroom. Bedroom-nte akathekku entry ullavarkellam kuli kaanam.

There’s a rule in all states what time the shops closes, if you come to Queensland slangs will be a bit different. Bit more laid back style. Houses with toilets it depends on where you are living like which area we live in Brisbane in a house 4 bed 4 bath lived in several houses which has mostly 2 bed 1 bath and 3 bed with 2 bath. Melbourne and Sydney is a bit more congested expensive and busy hence the issue with housing and so on..

Hi Ankitha, thanks for this cute video with your "shock" experiences! By the way the Hook Turn is principally to keep the center of a road free from congestion for use by trams or other services. It is used, apart from Australia, in countries like Japan, Denmark etc. Computer modelling has indicated that hook turns have the potential to significantly reduce delays and congestion in most scenarios, and especially where overall traffic flow is high. Can not think of this in India though!😒👀😆 Especially in a city like Bangalore! Cheers

Wow, some of those abbreviation slang words doesn't make any sense. But that's probably what they say for Americans here too. I always thought Australians use ther term "Aussie" for themselves, but I guess "Stralia" is the new one. Thanks for letting us know. Take care.

Jan and feb is the is yet to come to take off the jacket.. don't worry . Melbourne weather is like that ...you won't get bored with the weather .. I have lived in 3 cities(Sydney, Brisbane and here )in Australia. I feel weather is amazing here. I am saying this with my experience in other part of the world as well. I had 2 yrs in California 2 years in pennsylvania and New York and an year in Seoul - South Korea..

I have no idea a complete guess it is... that right hook is to avoid accidents when you switch lanes inside the roundabout trying to move from right most lane to the left most lane to take exit.. Based on what you said It actually made sense. Again this is with my experience in Uk .. have never been to Australia..

Hook turn is not seen in all Australian states. I have lived in New South Wales and Queensland. At least these two states don't have Hook turns.

++ Melbourne climate is just whimsical.. but given the Outback country tht Aus is, one can't expect any better !
++ Other oddities tht i recall.. not all are odd tho...a) early dinners.. happens in other cities too in Asia b) Coffee.. Coffee..more Coffeee c) get your own water...water u buy otherwise - which too prevails elsewhere in the Region d) sports freaky nation...their "Footy" .. e) cash culture.. Japan is another..f) short n sweet postal addresses..tht was easeee.. g) greetings all the way...everywhere.. h) pedestrians first culture.. and the one really makes me poker faced even now is Summer Xmas !!
++ Hook Turn is more for road cyclists (also known as a Perimeter turn in Canada ) as a safer alternative to merging with motor vehicles, or having to cross multiple lanes of traffic. Beijing Tokyo Taipei and i think Netherlands too have these ! One of the US cities too i hv seen.. Illinois if I recall ?!
