Punjab Farmer Rally and Protest Seattle 2020

Today @blacklisted_84 and @ssa_uw had their organized rally and peaceful protest to support India’s farmers. A large amount of the local Punjabi Sikh community (several hundred people) participated varying in ages from the youth to the elders. The rally started at Gurudwara Singh Sabha of Washington (Sikh temple in Renton) and the group drove to Bellevue Library with posters and signs to spread the message and raise awareness to protect our farmers. The peaceful protest began on the Bellevue library lawn where people wore masks and socially distanced. Holding signs and flags while there were speeches to support our Indian Farmers. Similar rallies and protests are happening in major cities worldwide, this the LARGEST ORGANIZED PROTEST IN HUMAN HISTORY! In India, farmers are gathering at Delhi to peacefully protest the new farming bills put in place by Modi (Prime Minister of India).
Recently in India, 3 farming bills have been passed that are highly controversial amongst the farmers of Punjab. The kisaan (farmers) naturally decided to PEACEFULLY protest against these unjust laws and were met with extreme violence by the Indian government. The farmers are civilly moving to get the bills repealed while enduring water cannons, tear gas, illegal arrests, and brutality. All while being oppressed by the Indian government, these farmers CONTINUE to serve langar (food) and water to their oppressors.
These bills are not out of the ordinary for the Punjabi community in India. In the last decade, the government has cut the water supply to the farmers and forced them to use GMO seeds that destroyed their crops, causing farmers to go bankrupt with no financial assistance. Due to this debt farmers were committing suicide and the rate of farmer suicides exponentially grew. In the last century, the government has committed mass genocide against the Sikhs, attacked our Holy Amritsar Gurudwara, raped our women, and introduced and promoted drugs into our community. Punjabis around the world including myself and our future generations are on the verge of losing our homeland.
It is our responsibility as Sikhs, Punjabis, Human beings - to spread awareness of the injustices occurring in Delhi and India in general because there has also been censorship around the Delhi Protest. We are asking you to visit the link in our bio to see how you can help.
