    when it comes to spelling...remember, renjun is bad at spelling too so don't feel too bad about yourself lmao

    Ah yes, because I'm definitely studying at 10PM and not watching NCT M/V's

    I’m a native English speaker. Renjun’s name is hard. I think I can pronounce it ok? But then I totally forget how to spell it. Because it’s pronounced more like “Lun/Run-Jin” so that’s how I want to spell it. But then I remember I have to use different vowels. 🤯 Super Junior’s Ryeowook also trips me up. Ugh. Anyway, keep going! You’re an inspiration!

    i am SO sorry i am spamming comments....the reason the 's' turns into a 't' at the end of a word is because they have the same placement in the mouth, but at the end of a word/sentence the sound "stops" but your tongue goes to the same place. you don't really pronounce the "t" sound, but it's similar to how we would say "but," where the tongue goes to the "t" place but we halt the sound as it is placed there. does that make sense??? yikes okay that's all ily

      don't worry, i love reading comments!! that makes a lot of sense, kind of like a voiced consonant vs. non-voiced one

    • @jayelyyn
      @jayelyyn 4 роки тому +3

      @@softrin2986 yeah, i was going to make that comparison except /s/ is already an unvoiced consonant so i didn't want to cause confusion lol

    hey, howtostudykorean.com is really really REALLY helpful when it comes to learning how to construct sentences in korean. idk whether you're the type to learn grammar/structure of phrases first, but when it comes to that point, that website is super helpful.

    god I feel you so much with the fear of being back at square one with a language. I started french after 6 years of english and it was so frustrating to be unable to say what you want again. this also really really makes me lowkey afraid of starting korean although I really wanna do it,, respect you a lot for stepping out of your comfort zone and starting to study on your own, I haven’t been able to do that so far :((

      I feel you girl I’m French and after learning English ( I did have a accent but I can speak u know ) I thought “learning Korean is gonna be hard “ . But actually knowing 2 language can help to understand better a certain notion , or could be horrible cause LANGUAGE CONFUSION get my ass and the ass of many other people

      I think it's important to have a friend who studies with you!

    i learned a little bit of korean in december (bc i had to study for drivers ed so i didn’t have a lot of time) and i came across a video on how to remember the consonants and it’s really helpful
    the vowels were the first thing i learned and since there wasn’t many, it was easy to remember
    ㅂ (b) can look like a BUCKET of water
    ㄷ (d) can be seen as one DOOR
    ㄱ (g) can be seen as a GUN
    ㅁ (m) can be seen as a MOUTH
    ㄴ (n) can be seen as a NOSE
    ㄹ (r/l) can look like a RATTLESNAKE
    ㅎ (h) the shape can look like a HAT
    ㅋ (k) can be seen as a KEY
    ㅌ (t) it can be seen as TWO doors, like one door on top and one on the bottom
    ㅍ (p) can look like a roman numeral like PART two
    i don’t exactly know how to explain these two cause they don’t really look like anything, but ㅊ is (ch) with an extra dash on top and ㅈ is (j) with no dash
    ㅅ (s) can look like SCISSORS
    ㅇ this is a place holder that makes no sound for vowels, but if you were to use it at the end of the syllable, it would make an -ng sound
    and with double consonants, the letters would just make a harder sound like ㅈ can either sound like (ch) or (j) but ㅉ (jj) would make a definite (j) sound if that makes sense
    so it would be the same with ㄲ ㅃ ㅆ ㄸ
    a tip if u don’t exactly know which pronunciation to use for ㄹ is to just slur ur (r) and (l)
    hope this was helpful :)

    i have been studying korean for about 2 months or more. it took me a while to get hangul and make that stick. i took my time and use multiple books over websites cause i get lost. i use the ttmik level 1 and korean from zero. i like them both for different reasons. i am thinking of doing a study vlog just to hold myself accountable and push myself. i also want to learn japanese and tagalog

    7:40 i recommend u to try to read the lyrics of nct or anyother group's songs u like, slowly trying to say the words how they really r, and its not gonna be that difficult, bcs in someway u'r already familiarized with them ~

    edit: okay you did that lol

    When you know a little bit more it's really helpful to make a diary in the language you're learning. It helps you with knowing more vocabulary which you would normally use in your daily life.
    Ps. I love your videos, greetings from Mexico 💕😊

      I learned Hangul and made sure I had it down before trying to move on. As for the reading. I watch lyric videos on a slow speed and just repeat the words until I have it. It’s nice because after that you can actually sing along to the song and know your saying it right even if you still don’t know what your saying.

    ahhhhh i loved watching this, it felt like i was having a conversation with you about the anxieties that come with learning a new language. i’m learning korean right now because i’m super bored in quarantine....BUT it’s so difficult!!!! i haven’t even got the alphabet down yet...slow and steady🙃

      There is a video here that teaches you hangul in around 27 minutes! It's easy to remember in the way she explains it and you only have to watch it once or rewatch it if you struggle. If you remind me I can send you the link later!

    im not that good at korean, but an advice to improve the pronounciation, that at least for me is really great, is to try to say the words in the same way u listen native speakers saying them, that really helps, bcs it sounds more natural and not like ur trying to pronounce each letter like it actually sounds like, idk is something that really helped me out, hope u can improve ur pronounciation with my advice too ~

    I just ordered the first TTMIK book! I’m a little worried though because I’m still learning Chinese and I’m worried I’m getting in a bit over myself...I keep giving myself the excuse I only want to learn Korean grammar but if I’m honest I don’t think that’s it. I just love both languages - they’re both so interesting so I can’t choose just one 😥

    this is gonna sound so dumb but my reading speed got better through reading vlive notifications 😶 i stan a lot of groups so when i wake up in the morning i have a lot of notifications, and i try to go through and read them (even if i don’t know what they mean) and i’ve found it’s helped me recognize words and helped certain words stick, as well as improving my reading speed! loved this video btw, you’re doing great!!!

    • @flwrmoons
      @flwrmoons 4 роки тому +2

      oh also! once your speed gets a little better, put on the korean subtitles for music videos and see if you can keep up with them - i’m not too great at this but it helps you get more comfortable with reading and processing the words quickly even if, again, you don’t know what they mean lol

  • @emilykate0835
    @emilykate0835 4 роки тому +2

    I improved at the Korean alphabet just by reading those little pop ups that they edit into kpop variety show type videos. Even though I usually don’t know what they mean I can read it. Also by just thinking of English words and thinking of how you could write them in Hangul

    when people say that the ㄹ sound in korean sometimes sounds like an r, they refer to more of like a spanish r sound, like the dd or tt in english words like letter or ladder. (not always, in some situations it sounds similar to an l)

    I find watching NCT videos and listening to kpop very helpful for my Korean study, as I get to notice some repetitively used words. But it might be hard for learning Chinese. They like to use a lot of formal and poetic words you rarely hear in real life conversations and make it complicated in WayV songs... I sometimes need subtitles for WayV songs too, although I'm Chinese.
    Love your videos and please keep up 💖. It must be nice to look back on how much you've learned and progressed.

    if you have two phones. set one of them in Korean, you see you will be oblied to catch up the words and you will get used with the letter. I am on my jorney to learn hebrew and that helped me and you don't know how much it was. One month I didnt strugge to figure the letters out.

    코피 is nosebleed
    I use lingo deer and how to study Korean!
    I got the hang of the sentence structure pretty easily since its pretty similar to Hindi (I’m South Indian but everyone knows Hindi)
    Not to brag but I got the hang of Hangul quick as well coz I am a pretty fast learner.

    I am a little late but I will comment anyway. While studying I found that there is no single good source to learn. Only after I bought 3 books and found several sites their combination got me moving ahead. I suggest howtostudykorean dot com as one of the main sources. Seemile app also helped. I studied for several months, it was so hard because it is so different from European languages.
    Anyway, after all this bullshit with the virus and self-isolation my trip to Korea was cancelled, moreover gradually I lost will, power and will power to do anything. I just sleep, eat and watch MVs in UA-cam.
    I hope you are doing better. If there is anything I can help you with in studying Korean (if I remember anything) I will help. 화이팅!
    P.S. be careful with google translate, it will F you up.
