The 80s Spider-man clips referencing Dr. Doom MF DOOM the producer Beef Wrap Hoe Cakes samples "Sweet Love" by Anita Baker This album was released the same year as Madvillany & Vaude Villain 2 The story of the album
When MF DOOM talks about dedicating the track to Subroc the, “hip hop Hendrix” he’s referring to his brother that rapped by his side in the early 90s who passed away before MF DOOM could go big. Something I thought you’d wanna know
Who knows. I would like to think he would appreciate positive comments about his sample and beat choices rather than more lyric dissection. However, he might have just hated me! Ha ha!
DOOM also produced the whole album with the exception of 2 tracks, to be able to do that and have the talent and hold on this language to write the way he does is outstanding. I also find this to be an important reminder to let your imagination lead above all else when you create something. RIP to the supervillain
Also I love how natural and musical this album feels, like more akin to a great band with a lot of heart. A good example of this is how multiple songs have long meaty amazing verses, but after the rhyming is done (or sometimes even before that) he is never afraid to let the music jam out and do the talking for him because it is as equally cared for as the words in the songs.
@@FrogeFella My favorite example of this is off of JPEGMAFIA's most recent LP! There's this one song where he just lets the bass keep playing and evolving for like almost a full minute after he stops rapping and its great.
With his arguably two best albums now under your belt, could you check out his Mouse & The Mask project? It's such a fun album imo, all filled with timeless flows and all of DOOM's unique delivery.
DangerDOOM is also a great album. Its centered around Adult Swim; it has voice actors from some of the shows doing monolog before tracks, and some tracks using samples from the theme songs of shows too
Kookies, the last track, used to have a sesame street sample but he completely had to redo the track years later because it was caught up in copyright i'll try and find the original and link it edit: ua-cam.com/video/Ci_XcL4nYos/v-deo.html the end also samples the first track making it cyclical
MF DOOM (shitt you got me, fake fan exposed, corrected in time) has inspired so many artists that you’ve reviewed now that I think about it. JPEGMAFIA, earl sweatshirt, tyler the creator, owe so much to DOOM. The unhinged creativity, the weirdness and the extent to which they commit to a character/act/perspective that isnt theirs entirely ect.
I have been waiting for this day since i first saw the Madvillany Reaction! In terms of this album, Poo-Putt-Platter is my favorite Rap Instrumental of All Time! Doom sampled The Fat Albert Halloween Special, a real genius move. Rest In Peace to one of my Musical hero's, or rather musical Villains.
Take me to your leader is an amazing one, you might really appreciate the instrumentals and their grandeur. Doom sticks to the theme brilliantly alike on madvillainy and mm food True genius
I remember listening to hoe cakes in the car and then walking into my bank with the Anita Baker song on. Like I walked through to an alternate dimension. The "super" sample is from JJ Fad's Supersonic.
Potholderz prolly a top 10 hip hop song of all time to me. Perfect verses, perfect beat, perfect hook, perfect atmosphere, perfect in the context of the album. Flawless
Great reaction as always!! Highly recommend to listen to Vaudeville Villain from his alter ego Viktor Vaughn. He really embodies his villain persona on that album lyrically and production wise. It really is another amazing album from MF DOOM and worth your time!
Appreciate your videos. Providing more enjoyment to the fans of already loved music. Sidenote - This made me remember that the original 2004 "Kookies" version isn't on the streaming album
You've done DOOM, Madlib and J Dilla albums now - some of Hip-Hop's unsung legends. But from a producer's view, I can see your appreciation for their skill and music. I suggest you try another one of Dilla's masterpieces: Slum Village - "Fantastic, Vol. 2" (Drums and samples 🔥)
Only today I resolved the line "Like PC, Glued.". It's a reference to building Poly Carbonate scale models. Makes sense, he was quite the hobbyist. Glad he's finally getting the shine he deserves, stuff like that flew over heads for years.
You should listen to the original version of kookies with the sesame Street samples on it too if you get chance, it has a great beat! Great video as always.
Could u listen to Injury Reserve's new album "By the time i get to phoenix". It has genuinely become one of my favourite albums and I think you would enjoy it. Keep up the amazing reactions btw.
I’m supposed to be taking my ass to work but when I saw you reacted to this album I decided to work the later shift and enjoy your reaction. Your reactions are like taking a shot of espresso. 👍🏾👍🏾
It's a toss up for me between this and Madvillainy as his best record. Thank you for listening to this. I guarantee you can listen to this 20x and you'll still find new things about it. It's a masterpiece.
I think you should really listen to The Unseen from quasimoto/madlib, you've already heard madlib produced albums would be cool to see what you think of his solo work
Let me know what you like about this album. Favourite sounds? Favourite lyrics? I might use your comments here for the next podcast episode. (Yes I appreciate my podcast is a niche thing!) the-only-podcast-you-will-ever-need.simplecast.com/
And the first verse of one beer “There's only one beer left
Rappers screaming all in our ears like we're deaf
Tempt me, do a number on the label”
Let me watch reaction I will give more

The story of the album
All of one beer is incredible. I also love the instrumental poo-putt platter
Mmfood is such a complex album disguised as a semi-decently easy listen
This is honestly now my favorite description of this album. Haha.
True! Simply because it’s a nice sound you can vibe to, while the lyrics themselves are as complex as they are
This has got to be one of my favourite albums of all time. The concept, the lyricism and the fact DOOM produced most of the album blows me away
I thought he produced all of it?
@@ZelRaat nah Madlib produced One beer, Count Bass D produced Potholderz and there was another song he didn’t produce but I’ve forgotten
Most of the beats on MMM Food were produce by his late brother Subroc
@@Riley-bn4xh Kon Queso - PNS [of "Molemen" from Chicago]
You make me smile and laugh like no one else on UA-cam. Brilliant reaction to a brilliant album. Thanks for all that you do!
Thanks for watching and appreciating. :-)
When MF DOOM talks about dedicating the track to Subroc the, “hip hop Hendrix” he’s referring to his brother that rapped by his side in the early 90s who passed away before MF DOOM could go big. Something I thought you’d wanna know
yep, and his second verse off "?" is about Subroc as well if he ever gets around to Operation Doomsday!

LETS GOOOOOO, welcome back Mercurial, we’ve missed the discover x
this album works so well with your style of videos, i'm sure DOOM would approve, excellent work as always
Who knows. I would like to think he would appreciate positive comments about his sample and beat choices rather than more lyric dissection. However, he might have just hated me! Ha ha!

*3 tracks
You know a rapper is really good when they make him stop jamming his heart out just so he can catch the words haha

Weird that it’s been a whole year without him around… that or the concept of time creeping up on you is finally hitting me.
Time goes so fast for me now that I've finished things before I've started them.
Living off of borrowed time the clock tick faster
Still missing the Villain… RIP DOOM ❤️
Really like the way you filmed this with the green aesthetic and angle and edits. It all fits really well together and fits with the album
If you liked One Beer, boy you would LOVE the original band that was sampled on that song: Cortex - Tropeau Bleu, classic prog-synth-jazz
Seconding Tropeau Bleu, its a great, unconventional sound and a popular source for hip hop samples.
You are the first person I've seen who caught that Tears for Fears line
I might get your comment tattooed on my forehead.
Idk how you don't have more subscribers, you're literally the most entertaining and passionate music reactor on this website
The general reaction audience doesn't seem to 'get' me. But I quite like our select group. :-)

The guitar on Rap Snitch Knishes is sampled from the Dave Matthews Band cover of Space Oddity by David Bowie
One of my favorite samples
Been waiting for this one haha, glad you liked it, this and madvillainy constantly go back and forth for me, not sure which is better.
Now that I've got past the 'filmed first listen' I can stick it on around the house and have a proper listen!
This is like literally the perfect rap album for you bro 😂
Another wonderful reaction! Really appreciate all the work you put in, Great editing.
DANGER DOOM has to be next! It's a really great DOOM album that's filled with adult swim material. It's a really enjoyable album, one of my favorites

Truest video title ever, Merc! DOOM cooks on this one, love what you had to say about Hoe Cakes (my favorite from the album.)
what an album to return with. my week is made
