Used the exact same sponge and Lime Away and it worked beautifully! I just bought a used dual exhaust BMW, tips were black and looked never cleaned, this took 5min, they look new!
Jokes aside, great that you've shared what didn't work. I was looking for a way how to clean exhaust tips on my Mini JCW. Initially, I wanted to take them off but I quickly failed and next step was 'find out what other guys are doing" :) Thank you!
Get the powdered Bar Keeper's Friend. I have a 2020 GTI. I just cleaned the tips for the first time. I take care of the car, moddify it, regular wash and dry, etc etc etc., but I don't mind dirty tips. It shows that it's well used in my personal opinion. It took me less than 15 minutes to gather the supplies, unroll the hose, clean my tips, clean up, and get back here to share. The look brand new. Anyhow, I love BKF. I saw the stuff being used and immediately though of BKF. Get it, use it, you're welcome. I used a standard blue kitchen sponge scrubby side.
Thanks for the tip, I’ve tried in mine but didn’t work, most because of it was very dusty and the carbon was there for so long. But I tested the Vim Pureboost Cream with Bleach, it is a kitchen product that I usually use to clean my stainless steel bbq. Another thing if this doesn’t work for you is to try to buff it using a very thin sandpaper, like 600 or even thinner
I have a bottle of CLR (Calcium Lime Rust) in the cupboard going to try that with the scotch pad on my Audi. 60K km and need cleaned the exhaust despite the rest being fussed over!
Great video! I m definitely gonna try this method! Auminum foil with wd-40 works too, without scratches at all. Once a year I clean my car exhaust tips with this method.
To maintain mine i take some RW like n-914 256:1 and soak a Kirkland MF towel. Go in with the towel fully saturated, flip to clean side of towel for each tip. Once clean take a 2nd clean towel and dry them up. Lastly i use a SI02 spray and give the tips a final coating. Buff away with clean towel. I do this every 2-3 days and it keeps them clean and easy to keep clean.
What happens if u Clean exhaust tip with rubbing alcohol? I did that to my exhaust tip to clean it out and spray wit 500 degree engine enamel spray. Now I’m afraid to attach exhaust back on car 😬
You can do what I did and remove them from the car to clean them or you could put down a cardboard box under the exhaust tips. Try just soap and water and some Mothers metal polish.
Duh? Thank you. I lived for a year in a small town in Illinois. Some jerks would just pull into an alley to change their oil. Never mind a pan to collect it. There is oil in this region of Illinois. Maybe that’s why they were so stupid there.
6 years and 65,000 miles of buildup cleaned up perfectly using your method. Took awhile longer for mine to get desired results. Great video.
I spent about 5 minutes doing this and my exhaust looks new again! Great video!
Tried this on my 2015 mk7 GTI and it worked quite well. Doesn't look new but the difference is night and day! Thanks!

Great Video CLR works just as good.
Glad I found your video. I have an M2 as well with a lot carbon build up on the tips. Looks like Ill be purchasing some Lime Away tomorrow!

She wasn't kidding, missed out on that Target run!
Just tried this. Worked perfectly!
Very impressive. I've usually just bought new exhaust tips, but I will definitely now try this. Thx

If the tips are black this method is still good right?
quick & to the point
Goo gone BBQ grill cleaner and a damp sponge. Useful as an oven cleaner or range hood cleaner as well. Super effective, no elbow grease involved.
Soap and water for me. Then Mother's Mag wheel cleaner "Cream" It does wonders and super fast.
Great tip, thanks for sharing.
I don't have limeaway so it's not completely free.🤣 Great video though.
This worked beautifully. Awesome video - thank you for posting

Thank you for explaining this in the most long-winded way possible.
Gonna try that on the Audi S7 I just bought. Thanks. I heard Bar Keeper's Friend works well too.
Yeah Bar Keepers friend is great
@@BlackLungRandy powder or liquid though ?
@@Daiymian Did you find out powder or liquid?
How often should i clean them?
I haven't done mine again since this video 😆 I wouldn't take this as advice necessarily
Thanks
“It took me longer to clean my four exhaust tips than it might take you to clean your one or two.” Weird flex bro.
It's only a bmw m2
😂😂😂
Thanks very helpful
Brillo pad and some water and dish soap then finish with chrome polish.
It works!
Does it make a difference on performance?
Yeah. It adds a 2% increase to getting laid per clean exhaust tip
22k in 3 years? ive done 20k in 5 months. gotta start driving like him :/
Bro he has to have a at home job and only leaves when necessary 😂 his mileage outta this world lol
Only driven my car 30k in 6 years lol
Toilet bowl cleaner is a 10/10 here.
Lime Away is $50 in Canada.
Shoot - yours look nowhere near as bad as mine on my VW GTI!! Can they be removed to more easily clean them?
I placed a cardboard box under
Guys it’s so stress relieving to clean your car
Autosol metal polish, simples!
Put cardboard under your car🤷♂️
What?
@@Aegis4521 the soot from the exhaust will stain your driveway.
@@amberforestrecoreds ah right lol

No bro! Drive Sahara be sure!😅
Put a pan underneath tips
They are already clean not too bad its easy
Ah, try a little muratic acid if you have a swimming pool, a lot less scrubbing...
when i get my new exhaust i will apply an ceramic coating to the tips so they are easy to clean
Brilliant idea, I wish I would have thought of that!
Wouldn't the heat burn it right off?
@@NoodleBoy101 not if its made for high temps
Great Idea...What ceramic coating did you use ?
I even put cerami coating on my ceramic dishes, stuff works wonders
Or, stick a piece of cardboard underneath to catch the runoff.
WD40.... just spray on all the carbon , leave for 10min , and wipe off
I'm gonna try this right now
ok ut how to
Well that is the exit end of the exhaust, what about inside the whole of exhaust tube?? That can only be done by experts
Get it nice and toasty and it will be cleaning itself
Steel wool guys come on
Uj...I just use a rag. Just me?
Why it’s becoming carbon
Just use your neighbor driveway
Bollox.
😏
🤣🤣🤣
Oh great a video about some guy not knowing what he is doing
People - if you are going to go and buy a product - buy some "BAR KEEPERS FRIEND" it is all you need. Much better than LIME AWAY.
