- There are approximately 900 English translations and paraphrases of the Bible. Never at any time in history have we had such an overabundance of Bible versions to choose from. This presents us with the unique problem of which translation to use. I hope this video helps clear up some of the confusion about Bible translations.

Through providence God raised up the most powerful nation there ever was or will be, the U.S.A., and in its infancy it was given the preserved word of God; “Robert Aitken, a Philadelphia printer, was the first to publish the first American edition of the K.J.V. New Testament in 1781 and the K.J.V. Old Testament in 1782, omitting the Apocrypha. On completion, he petitioned and received from the Congress of the Confederation, an official endorsement that Aitken added to the binding of his Bibles, to assure colonists that they were buying a non-royalist edition: “Resolved, that the United States in Congress assembled… recommend this edition of the Bible to the inhabitants of the United States and hereby authorize him to publish this recommendation.” As a result, the Aitken Bible is often referred to as “The Bible of the Revolution.” The nation was given the KJV, not the dead sea scrolls, not the book of Enoch, not Hebrew books etc. but only the KJV. If God wanted us to understand his word in Hebrew he would have raised this nation up speaking Hebrew. Back in the 1600’s God saw to it that the certain scriptures were translated into English “KJ bible” and was put into print so that all could read for themselves the truth that is in the scriptures. God did this because he knew that he would bring about this powerful nation [U.S.A. and the English language] of ours to lead the world. The scriptures were written by apostles and prophets inspired by God through the Holy Ghost. The compilation and translation to English was also done by the direction of God through the Holy Ghost and he did not make any mistakes, i.e., the fourth horse being “pale” was no mistake, the horse is not green.
In Greek mythology, the name Chloris (Khloris Χλωρίς, from khloros χλωρός, meaning "greenish-yellow," "pale green," "pale," "pallid" or "fresh") appears...
Pallid 1. pale; faint or deficient in color; wan: a pallid countenance.
People say that they believe that scripture was written by the direction of God and the Holy Ghost, which is true. But what you people don’t seem to realize is that the compilation and translation of the bible (KJV) was also done by the direction of God and the Holy Ghost. If the bible was written and compiled by men of opinion and perspective and translated by incompetent translators then you might as well throw it in the trash. The prophets were told what to write and how to write it.
The nation was given the symbol of the Eagle, 37 … Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together. Luke 17:37 (KJV), the body being the church, the body of Christ. The nation has the motto and preamble “in God we trust” and “one nation under God”. This greatest and most powerful nation. the U.S.A., has been given the last and best chance to lead the world to heaven on earth or destruction. But like all other nations of power before it (symbolic Israels) the U.S. has chosen destruction and is now the great “liar” saying “in God we trust” and “one nation under God”, it is now the conglomerate of the dragon, beast, false prophet, and harlot, it is Satan loosed from the pit, 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth Rev 20:7-8 (KJV).
And yet no one seems to know of or speak of a very clear fulfillment of prophecy in our recent history. We (U.S.A.) are the ones who brought down fire from heaven in Aug. of 1945 and we are the ones that gave life to the image of the beast in May of 1948. Rev 13:13-15 (KJV).

I use to struggle with this a lot along with hearing it as an excuse from lukewarm and non-believers. I thank God because he knew what he was doing. Two scriptures tell us everything we need to know for the Bible in whole. John 5:39 "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. Also Matthew 24:35 Heaven and Earth will pass away but my Words will never pass away. In summary, everything in the Bible points to Jesus no matter the scripture or translation second his Word will always be there. To conclude no matter the translation the message is still the same God came down as man, died, resurrected so that we may have eternal life.

Every student of the word of God should also equip themselves with a Strong's Concordance. This book gives you every word in the Bible in their original Greek or Hebrew along with their respective meanings. It is also very helpful.
Personally- I simply don’t rely on any one translation.
In my home I have a KJV, NLT, CJB, NKJV, eth-Cepher, and a Hebrew version of the Torah with translation and commentary. I also bought a Strong’s concordance and a Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary.
On my phone I use the Blue Letter Bible app and read mostly from the NASB parallel with the WLC/WH OR WLC/MGNT.
I have learned to read Biblical Hebrew because I desired to know what IT said, and not what man said. It certainly helps.
The problem is, people want to rely on one translation, and just read it as written. That is not “studying” the scriptures. Studying is cross-referencing, looking at words, studying context, etc.... and sadly this is a lost art. I encourage you all to dig deep. YHWH will reveal His wisdom to those who diligently seek it. :)
Proverbs 25:2 (NASB)
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
The Septuagint is just the Greek translation of the Old Testament, so yes, He quoted from the Old Testament. But doubtful He spoke Greek while He walked on earth.
The Septuagint is helpful in defining New Testament terms by their use from the Hebrew translations, however. For instance:
Harpazo (which most bibles translate as “taken”) is the word people use to justify a “rapture” to heaven.
However, the prophet Elijah was “Harpazo”ed, in order that Elisha’s ministry would start. Elijah was not raptured to heaven, though. Jehoshaphat was king when Elijah was “Harpazo”ed, and His son Jehoram became king after him, and ruled unrighteously. Around ten years after Elijah was “harpazo”ed, Jehoram received a letter from Elijah telling him that he was doing a crappy job At being king. Clearly, Elijah wasn’t taken to heaven, only into the sky- where he was moved supernaturally to a different place.
Also, Phillip was “Harpazo”ed away from the Ethiopian Eunich after the Eunich was baptized. He wasn’t taken to heaven, he was just _taken_ somewhere else.
In short, each translation has usefulness. That’s why I don’t rely on just one ;)
Apples, Oranges and Pears it was not acceptable for the Torah to have been read in synagogues in any language other than Hebrew... so they may be older manuscripts, but there are also very strict rules about copying the Hebrew texts and very few errors in the Hebrew texts. So we can be sure even the younger Hebrew texts will have exactly the same content as the older. Thencompare that to a _translation_ and things can be... well, lost in translation. The Hebrew is far more reliable for content than the Greek, but the Septuagint is helpful in carrying Hebrew themes through the New Testament Greek.
What version of the Hebrew version of the Torah with translation and commentary?
Angel Casillas, Jr the one I have is the one by Richard Elliott Friedman, and we have it mostly so that we have a physical copy of the Hebrew Torah in our home (never know when internet will no longer work), but on my phone I use both the majority text and the Wescott and Hort Hebrew. To be honest I haven’t read much of the commentary, since the writer doesn’t know the Messiah- I simply use it as a physical Hebrew reference. Hope that helps.

2:55 - Well, Sinaiticus is missing a lot of the Old Testament because of //damage// over the centuries, not because anyone was trying to take books out of the Bible. *Many* manuscripts are damaged. Codex Alexandrinus, for example, is missing the first 24 chapters of Matthew; that does not reflect on the quality of its text; it just means that it has been damaged.

Thanks for your information. Robert Alter's new translation 'The Hebrew Bible' is a great translation with commentary that also explains the puns, word plays, word choices, syntax, rhythm and dialogue qualities of the text. His 'Art of Bible Translation' goes into the energy involved in keeping repetitions, keywords, and following the Hebrew word order, even if it surprises English speakers. It's terrific but read many versions.

I use New King James AND The Scriptures from ISR. I also have a Vine’s Expository Dictionary. If I am reading and I question something, I like to have a couple of translations and other study tools to help me understand better.
I use The Scriptures as well.
My husband had a New World Translation of Holy Scripture from JW. And last year he bought another version whicg is in Welsh (Cymraeg). KJV is a big help. Thank you for enlightening us about what Bible version should we read.

I think many Christians wonder about this too. I used to dismiss them, thinking that God wanted them removed, but I'm not so sure anymore. I watched an interesting video a while back that made a pretty good case for its books, but I'm still skeptical. I remember reading from Tobit and Maccabees when I was younger, but I wasn't in the right place to really examine them.

New king james version is personally my favorite because it is both accurate in what it's translating and it is modern enough to be understood for the average person today. King james version, while being accurate, is hard to read and understand for me and often times I've read things in KJV and then in NKJV and felt like I understood a lot more from the NKJV.
Same here, I have a KJV & NKJV and they are both wonderful.
If you like the KJV than you would definitely like the MEV which is translated from the same manuscripts as the KJV but you can ask any theologian and they will tell you that the KJV is not the best translation at all so I would recommend the ESV
@@kingslade414 I have and read mostly ESV, but I have KJV, NKJV, nlt, niv, as well. I have seen some not support the ESV, they will call it (evil Satan version) but they are mainly KJV only types, which a lot are. I always thought the ESV was understandable. I can't read KJV only. I get to parts where it doesn't make sense for me due to the language and wording. I've heard others say KJV is not the best translation either and that King James was and did some questionable things. So many differences in opinions and "facts" but we still know Jesus Christ reigns forever as well as his followers who walk his walk.
@Wayfaring Pilgrim 63 I totally agree, even the KJV has errors in it. I have read the KJV the most out of all my translations and it is my most trusted one, but I like how the NKJV goes into greater detail for some specific verses, and it's nice to not read the same exact translation over and over with the same exact words for each Book. But yes there are problems with both translations. I still love them though.
Great video brother! I tend to keep it rather simple. I was raised on the good ol' KJV, so I'm sticking with it. It's been the standard for over 400 years. Can't go wrong with it.
KJV is edited version of previous versions. It has never been the STANDARD.
@@MrGhostwolf999 - Maybe you should actually watch this video. It clearly states the KJV is based on the textus receptus which is translated word for word. Thus it's one of the closest translations to the original text you're going to get. The guy in the video even stated he prefers the NKJV. If that's the case then the KJV is even better than that.
@@nialcc Maybe you should read my text. Every word I said is true. It is only considered to be the “standard” by people who do not understand Bible translation methods or history. If the KJV is the only Bible you will read than stick with it. The KJV is less accurate than several newer translations.

Hey Lex, New viewer. I have recently purchased an Aramaic English NT and would like your opinion on it. The version I use is by Roth and the BibleHub app. It has been my opinion to understand the true meaning of the Word one should go back to the language Y'shua spoke and was most commonly spoken at the time He spoke them. I'm in the Bible belt and everyone down here think some all the words were Greek only. I feel like I'm on an island. Also, do you of any Sabbath keepers in southern West Virginia?

I use Logos as a chaplain and it is nice having tons of translations available as well as original language resources. My favorite to read is probably the ESV, as it is fairly literal but also easy to read. The problem with language is that language is NOT word for word. Anyone who has studied a foreign language (to include ancient Greek and Hebrew) know that a series of words may mean very different things when they are grouped together than they do individually. Having word for word AND thought for thought translations are essential.

But I don't like reading the King James version it's too hard to understand and it just makes it difficult to want to read the Bible. @@kavitadeva If you don't understand the KJV, which is written in plain words and has stood the test of time, then maybe you need someone with more understanding to help you. KJV is easy to understand if you give it time, because it has more depth than the "new versions" and a sentence has a plain content as well as a hidden. There are some outdated words, but then again, there are words like "satraps" in "newer versions". Is that an easy word?
And I gave you verses from the Bible, that you purport to believe in, that say that women should be silent in the church. And the reason why is obvious:
" I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

@@lurchhightower2806 what verse is the last paragraphs from, where it speaks on the woman being silent and Adam and eve, makes sense because EVE was the one who was deceived and then got Adam tempted to do the same. Is that only in KJV or all versions? I recognize the verse just can't pinpoint which one it was

Dunno if you've found the answer to your question, since it was 2 years ago... But, yes the HCSB is a good version. But, no matter the version you have; I'd always check other versions. Plus Hebrew/Greek, to get a fuller understanding.

I've been asking several people who seem to study the Bible what translations they prefer. You already mentioned the NKJV, but what others do you like? I have recently bought an ESV, which I really like. I have the NKJV, KJV, NIV, NASB, NLT, Message, NET, the Septuagint, the Hebrew Bible by Robert Alter, the New Testament by David Bentley Hart, the First Testament by John Goldingay, probably some others that have slipped my mind as a write this. Everything taken together gives a deeper understanding of the text when studying, but I need a main Bible just to read. I have settled on the ESV. I don't know the original languages, but the English is certainly very elegant in the ESV.
In my opinion, "Young's Literal Translation" for accuracy. All the best!💖
KJV and ISR: TS2009 - These are my main bibles. Both from the Textus Receptus.
Erasmus called it Textus Receptus because that was what he was officially given. ie 'as received'.
He already had many other much older Hebrew manuscripts rejected by Rome.
The Judeo Roman bible cannot be trusted 100% particularly as the compilers rejected the much older DSS and is therefore sub-standard and not inspired.
I have a question for you Brother Lex. What would happen to our versions of the bible if new scrolls were found that added new accounts of our Savior? I am sure some High Priests would make sure these text were hidden well as Christens have been persecuted through out time. Would these books be added if validated or just left as stand-alone manuscripts?

I was wondering what it means to fast and then be able to cast out upper level demons. Does fasting make the prayers more powerful or does God sense our putting away of self and then give us power to remove possession. Thoughts?

Thank you sir. So does starving the flesh starve the demon? What is the connection between fasting and demon possession? I cannot find (I admit my ignorance, but I'm not lazy!) where anything spells out why the scriptures give that direction...is there anything and I'm just missing it? Or is there not really any "fast to get rid of demons and it works this way" type of council in scripture?
Matthew 17:19-21 Jesus advises the disciples that they could not cast out the demon secondary to their unbelief. However, then he goes on to say that "this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting". I always took this to mean that fasting helps us with our own unbelief.
@@unavocatepice but I wonder if it gives us the same authority as Jesus when we fast? He can cast out demons without fasting but we weak ones need to fast and pray to be as strong spiritually as him

I have the kjv,nkjv,nrsv,niv as a new believer i read the same passage in all books.
Wow this is so awesome! Just today I was researching first John chapter 5 inquiring about verse 16 and 17 and in my research I came across that the verse with the water that was added by somebody else named Erasamus or something like that In the 1500s. Well that's what Wikipedia says anyway. I am definitely not a scholar it's just that I was trying to make sure what 1st John 5:16 and 17 meant. Lex sir you are so much smarter than me and I am taking it as a great sign that at least today for a moment or two, you and I had the same things in mind. Thank you so much for your ministry. I don't agree with everything you say, but I'm convinced you have the Holy Spirit In You as do I not that either one of us deserve him. I am just amazed that you brought up that very verse that I was just reading about today. THX LEX!!! As a former Roman Catholic, I started reading the KJV. After getting over my shock at the lies I've been taught, you now tell me you read the NKJV! Looks like the NKJV is on my book list now. One question though. Can it be used with the Strongs Concordance? Any input would appreciated. Rookie Christian here.

Yes, nkjv is Strong's compatible. It is not much different from kjv, just updated language.
Confessions, novenas, Sunday Sabbaths, Mary worship, praying to the Saints, Idolatry, CELEBACY, and the Jews killed Jesus... for starters. Need I go further? Note: This was a huge deal. The only other time in Scripture that God ever breathed on man was back in Genesis when He gave Adam a soul!!! That was huge, also.

the belief that you don't need the book (the Word) is saying you don't need Christ (the Word) and it you don't need Jesus we know what is said about that.......so we must read! Reading being guided by the Holy Spirit, that is how the Holy Spirit will teach us all things....

Lex, I use the NASB for my studies. Would you consider this text a literal word for word doctrine? If so, what other translations would you recommend that makes bible study a little easier to understand? Thank you for your time to my request!
For what its worth, I recommend the KJV, oldest version you can find, with the Apocrypha, if you can find one. Most do not have the Apocrypha today. Then get a Strong's Concordance, the older the version probably the better. Then take the time to look up each word in a scripture to what the original language says that it means. Be sure to read the front of the concordance, important for understanding, so that you will understand the symbols & what they mean etc.
Doing this I have found several places where the KJV translators were in error, at least according to Strong's work, whether any of it was intentional, or deliberate, who can say with certainty. Using Strong's with the KJV is really eye opening at times, frustrating at other times.
The NASB is a very formal translation that is great for study. I would recommend also using a translation like the CSB or BSB as they are more in the middle between formal and dynamic and are very readable.
I like the ESV. Easier to read than King James.

Compare the doctrinal verses in both KJV and KJV and you will find a difference.
I've done it. Whole doctrinal verses omitted in ESV and meanings changed.
@@Johnkoth The differences are due to the critical text that the ESV is translated from. The argument is that the majority text especially the Textus receptus has signs of being edited by scribes for the sake of scriptural consistency and that the earlier alexandrian texts weren’t edited as much. Scholars that favor the critical text want manuscripts that represent what the original authors wrote. I personally use both KJV, NKJV, NIV, NLT, ESV periodically and compare the different translations and versions. Obviously I catch the differences.
Sir I will be the first to admit I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I'm just got tired of going to church listening to a pastor or teachers and when I read my Bible it either didn't say what they said it said or didn't make sense.
I decided to see if I had the write instructions instead of the right religion.
Instead of listening to theologians, professors with PH.D's, famous authors and Pastors. I ask God to help this simple mind of mind to find truth.
He gave me a process of elimination in English which I could understand. He taught me about "patterns" and how they reveal truth. And we didn't need to know Hebrew and Greek, etc to simply read and understand the Bible. Just a few principles which I would be glad to share with you. It's actually quite interesting.

We all start out with gist info and the Bible can seem a bit confusing when you really start to take it seriously. Rhonda actually took the first big step and that is praying for understanding, it’s the first most important step when it comes to studies. The verse I left in the previous comment is a starting based to understanding because you’ll seem realize that is the whole point. The Bible sums up why we needed a savior and the purpose of Jesus to include why it’s too relevant today. Gods Holy Word never comes back void and he said his words will never pass away. The Bible not only confirms why we needed Jesus but it tells you of history, instruction and warnings on how to live. The Bible actually tells you what its purpose is in 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

You don't have a '1611'. It had the proper name for the Almighty, and was changed multiple times in the next 25 years or so.
Yet nobody stops to think the quality and validity of the people doing the Translating or the people before them or before them or before them and in a world where supposedly Satan is Lord his employees have translated it and people assume it's true.
Geneva has some verses kjvos may not like. Course, the same could be said of other pre-kjv bibles as well if they knew about such things.

The NASB, NRSV, and ESV are great translations but they are based on the Alexandrian texts, so they are missing verses

I can't live without my YLT. I find the language a bit difficult at times, but I've come to appreciate that quality, as it means I have to really focus on every passage to properly grasp its message.
Ekklesia would translate to församling (congregation) in swedish, so that's similar in that regard.
Interestingly, Kanisa in swahili/arabic also means congregation (church).. phonetically not too far off

Sahidic Coptic Translation of John 1:1
This manuscript (dating from about 600 C.E.) contains a translation of the Gospel of John into the Sahidic dialect of the Coptic language. Coptic was spoken in Egypt in the centuries immediately following Jesus’ earthly ministry. Along with Syriac and Latin, Coptic was one of the first languages into which the Christian Greek Scriptures were translated.
Translations into Coptic were available by the third century C.E., so they can give us insight into how the Greek text was understood at that time. This may be of special interest when it comes to the much debated second part of Joh 1:1, which in many translations reads: “And the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Unlike Koine Greek, Syriac, and Latin, the Sahidic Coptic dialect does have an indefinite article (in some ways corresponding to “a” and “an” in English). The two occurrences of the Coptic word for “God” look slightly different-the first one (1) with the definite article and the second one (2) with the indefinite article.
Thus, when rendered literally into English, the translation would read: “And the Word was with the God, and the Word was a god.”
Hebrew has no lower case, and no word for "a". And "in the beginning" is likely a mistranslation as most linguists and rabbis are now convinced. It will never be 100 percent certain, because it depends on one vowel of a difference in Hebrew. As you know the vowels were originally not written down, but added much much later based on oral documentation. Assuming the vowels were passed on correctly till now, then "bereshit" should be translated "with wisdom". To get "in the beginning", the Bible would have had to state "bareshit", but it doesn't. So it says "with wisdom God created the heavens and the Earth".

What's important to note is that we have over 5000 surviving greek manuscripts essentially preserving the same information for us to learn from. These people knew what they had, and how important it was for the contents to be preserved and protected for future generations, to learn from and live by. No other ancient work has so many surviving copies. This is further evidence of the love God that has for the human race, despite our natural inclination toward rebellion and hatred of God. Indeed, this gospel shall be preached unto all the world as a witness... and then the end shall come. (Just as Yeshua predicted)
