A nyatiti makes me feel so solemn. The funny thing is my whole family lived in Kisumu for a long time so my grandparents and my mom's siblings all speak luo and not a word of Kikuyu. We are the Ngugi's who speak luo. How's that for tribalism?
We get to value and appreciate our culture and heritage once we get to live within other cultures. Kids growing up in the Diaspora appreciate their identity more than kids growing up in Nairobi.
