  • No Illegal building techniques this time, super cheap, super solid reliable track for your Lego trains using the humble fence piece.
    I have another video showing how you can make track from regular plates and tiles but the illegal building technique didn't impress many people. So here is some legal track... don't ask about curves.

      The phenomenon is quite common in industry. Perhaps you would be excited to discover a machinists device, known as a "1-2-3 Block", or a movie set device, known as a "C-Stand", or "Century Stand". Of course, I must also mention Unistrut and "Extruded Aluminum Profiles with V or T slots" (Often called "4040", even when it's not). But then, there's the predesesor to Leggo, which was called Meccano in England, or Erector Set in the US. The point I'm making is that anything man-made can be made to fit together as easily as numbers do, as that's the whole concept of the industrial revolution. Of course, none of this matters if you're not interested in growing past the recreational aspect of the toys.

      @@buckstarchaser2376 None of those examples apply to this situation. What we see here is Legos ability to connect different pieces in multiple ways and for some pieces to fill the same role as other pieces.

    • @buckstarchaser2376
      @buckstarchaser2376 2 роки тому +2

      @@CleverClothe Sure thing, buddy, yet every example I gave also fits your explanation for how Leggos are so cool.
      I agree that Lego are cool, however, so does everybody on the planet, as they are simply an offshoot of various building systems/tools since antiquity. The main problem with Leggo, however, is that many people get trapped in their little block world and can't transition to general technology, or apply their block experiments to actually create something outside of their simulated creation. These types often make oblivious comments, as you just did. With this unfortunate outcome, Leggo are more destructive to the imagination and mental development of the child that plays with them than of benefit. Trapped in this limited world of strict, precious, blocks, a person can end up locked into an infant's level of mental development. There's a whole world beyond those blocks, no matter how many times they've served as an escape from the parts of the world you didn't like.

Sometimes I think a lot of people just think some building technique is illegal because it is unorthodox.

    There is a better way. 23 years ago I only had cuvred tracks. I could not affford to buy set of straight tracks for my 4552 cargo train. So you take flat two 8x2, then between frist two pins you put 1x8. But you need to flip it 90*. Then you do the same between pin 6 and 7. On the other side of 1x8 you do the same. You can also use 1x12, if you have. So your 2x8 is a rail track pad and 1x8 is your rail. Remember 1x8 has to be flipped 90* degrees and goes BETWEEN pins.

    I love the idea. 温故知新 (Review the past helps one to understand the present)
    I think classic method gives us great solution. 100% regal is good.

    I don’t have many of those pieces ironically: more rail tracks then fence pieces.

    1 piece of fence costs 21cents at the moment...8 times that is already more expensive than 1 piece of rail, which costs 1.50e

    In theory wouldn't any surface work as long as there is a gap with the correct distance? If I have factored correctly, it would be 11 and a half plates wide gap, based on a studs width being 2.5 plates, with the fence portion of the fence piece being a plate thick, therefore having an offset of .75 of a plate on both sides, multiplied by 2 for each side of track, in addition to the 4 stud gap (equal to 10 plates), in total 11.5 plates

    I feel this could be great for depots so that people can go under the train for maintenance

    What are you talking about, current lego rc train tracks are cheap. I finally gotta around to reviving my lego set 4558 and needed 9V tracks which are pricey. A straight one is $5 each and curves one go for about $1-2.

    Its only an illegal building technique if it puts stress on the bricks in a way its not supposed to :D

    I don't even have any lego parts to create this, should I re-invent 3d printers and atoms?
