Sorry about the bad audio. Subtitle is available if inaudible. In this video, I go over how to install Tar.gz programs in your Linux distro (Ubuntu).
First, install the program "Alien" using this commend line:
sudo apt-get install alien
cd Downloads
sudo alien -d filename.tar.gz
Note: Everything is case sensitive and the file name must match 100%. The program Alien will convert the .tar.gz file into a .deb file for easy installation. - Наука та технологія
I'm so glad I found this video. Finding out about alien is definitely a time saver so I don't have to constantly come back looking for tutorials in case I forget how to do this kinda stuff. You rock for sharing this
Thank you so much for this video :) I am new to Linux Distros and I will say so far so good thanks to many UA-cam directions and how to! How ever, every now and then Linux will get me stuck! In my case you can imagine how I could not install a Matrox MGA G200EV graphics card driver which is pretty old but I am running a server and this card is what came with the server. The struggle was going on for almost 2hours until I found your video and it guided me through the installation process successfully! Two thumbs up and you get a like and subscribe from me! thanks a million.
It works! I am a subscriber to your channel. Thank you Yvon.
bro you're a life saver homie thanks again man
thank you so much for this i've been struggling for a long time 😇
Absolutely Helpful!!! - thanks
Thank you friend . Live long and prosper .
Life saving video. Thank you so much.
Thanks for tutorial. That helped a lot :)
Thanks bradda, thanks a lot.
thank you soo much.. the first video that I really understand..
thank you so much. alien is really helpful.
Bro I am new to the linux world and I am just starting from the basics, i downloaded ventoy.tar.gz file and used alien it created a -all.deb file, I clicked on it and installed, but I can't find the place where it installed, my os is parrot os, please help me
When I clicked on the file software install didn't show up. Is there something else I have to install?
And how one launches the result of "untarring"? it seems the only thing which happens is libraries after opening( didn't count them, but many)
thank you so much ... its working for me
OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN
Great stuff
after converting to debian file still it is not installing
my tar file is universal android debloater.
Great job! Nice and slow with good redundancy on the specific "how to's." Audio quality was not the best; for instance when you gave the combination keys for the paste function, the third key of the combination was inaudible, I replayed it 5 times but never could decipher it, yet I suppose it could be none other than a 'P' for print. I'm subscribing, cause you do it better than most of your counterparts.
Thanks for the kind words. Used a screen recorder with new settings and realized after recording the whole thing that the audio was bad
@@YvonSmart Unfortunately after completing the exercise for: /home/jerry/Desktop/Downloads/wine-9.0-rc3.tar.xz ; I got the reply: "Unknown type of file." Any additional comments or suggestions would be deeply appreciated. I went over my entries and could not find any typos.
@@user-hk6yp7tq6d Unfortunately alien is not perfect, it work for most programs but once in a while there is that program that just refuses to unpack due to its structure. Maybe this helps: ua-cam.com/video/BEL6gum5ErA/v-deo.html
thanks so much it workssss
Awesome
Thanks, friend)

OMG LIFESAVER!
Thank you.
Thanks
Thanks!)
"Unknown Type of Package!" :(
I found this video extremely useful, but the sound was SO far down that with my system and Bluetooth speaker volumes maxed out, I had to hold the speaker up to my ear to hear it. You need to redo the sound. It's barely there.
Thank you
Thanks bro

Bruh, I thought my pc is started doing weird noises. So, I shut it down. As it turned out, it's from your video. lol 😂😂

Hi! install "gdebi" using this command
sudo apt install gdebi
Then right click the .deb file, choose "open with" , choose gdebi, then hit "install package" Sometimes it takes like 5 seconds to start processing for the first time.
@@YvonSmart thansk a lot , it worked !
@@YvonSmart Can I uninstall alien after I installed my program?
@@BatmanFailedSociety Yes if you don't install tar.gz apps too often
not forking with fedora 39. dependency err.
Dependency errors are usually caused by missing updates or entries. Try a complete update of your system

What desktop environment are you using in the video?
Gnome
@@YvonSmart I am new to Linux, how do you get it to look like that?
@@alexandermueller4115 You can change the position of the dock from vertical left to horizontal bottom in Settings/Ubuntu desktop/Dock. You can change the style and color of the windows and icons using Gnome tweak tool. for the wallpapers you can get them here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/178OFplPU-27frTeF9M81yqSB7Q5TaCBv?usp=sharing
@@YvonSmart Thank you, Very helpful!
@@alexandermueller4115 You're welcome!
you should mention that this solution is for Debian based distros
Are on an airplane, listen to your video?
Very Low Audio !!
I installed it but the app isn't showing up anywhere.
That's normal, it's a addon, not a program that you can launch, watch the end where I showed how to install tar.gz programs
@@YvonSmart Yes, I followed your every step and was able to install the deb file. Still, the program is nowhere to be found among my apps. I have no way of launching it.
@@JDMorris81 Again, it's an addon that integrates into your terminal. not a program with a graphical user interface that you can launch. You can only use it within the terminal with sudo alien to convert tar.gz files into .deb files for easy installation. It may get a GUI in the future
@@YvonSmart Ok, once the app is converted, what is the terminal command to launch it?
@@JDMorris81 Once the app is converted it is stored in the same folder as the tar.gz file, just double click it to initiate installation
down voted for terrible audio
if i send you a tar.gz file can you pls convert it to a deb file whats your email and can u send it to me pls when you done?
why tf can't you convert it tho, it's easy lmao
