  • (Episode 6) I'm the author of the WARM BODIES book series (yes there was a movie) and I live in the wilderness with my cat, Bob. My previous cat, Watson, went missing 6 years ago, but then he made a shocking, soap-opera return. Here is a story about the startling grief of losing a pet, the bittersweet reality of being reunited after so much time and change, and the lessons I'm learning from how animals see the world.
All footage and music by me.

Followup video with a happier ending is HERE: ua-cam.com/video/9NdZJWUfEYw/v-deo.html
I never expected this video to blow up like this. So many of your responses have been beautiful and kind, but it's also been a little exhausting reading the daily flood of comments judging me for my decision or questioning and misunderstanding various points so I want to clear up a few things...
    1. I did not "abandon" Watson. I left him with my grandparents TEMPORARILY because I was packing up my house and going on the road to find a new one, and it seemed safer for him to stay indoors with family during that transition rather than being underfoot in all the chaos. He was only supposed to be there a few weeks.
    2. He had lived with Julie for SIX YEARS. The same amount of time he lived with me. At that point he was just as much her cat as mine and taking him would have been traumatic for both of them. It was a 50/50 choice and I understand some people would choose differently, but please listen to what I said in the video before jumping in with judgement.
    3. I never said Watson didn't remember me. I was just subjectively pondering the way cats think and conceive of themselves, based on how I've seen them react. No need to trot out science on feline memory function, this isn't about that.
Thanks for listening. And yes, I do have a new cat now! You can meet Bob and follow my journey into off-grid-ish wilderness living on my other videos. I love you all and I hope all of you who lost your cats get reunited someday.

Leaving your cat with your parents probably was a shock to Watson and he most likely went looking for you which Is how he got lost In the first place, not the best thing to do but life forces us to make decisions that probably aren't best for everyone. At least you found him and know the end of the story.

If that wasn't the best thing to do, please tell me what would have been better? Keep him in my house while me and a crew of friends thundered around packing out all the furniture until there was nothing familiar left? Then take him with me in my van while I drove around the state looking for a new home, sleeping in the van for weeks? Then dump him in the unfamiliar new house while we thundered around loading in all the furniture?
I truly want to know how people are imagining the process of moving with a cat underfoot. I think he would have been 100x more likely to run away during all that chaos than being kept safely indoors at a family member's quiet house. The only thing that went wrong is that my grandpa was more senile than I knew and decided to open a window...

    I feel your pain,
In april 2023 my cat sneaked into a semi-trailer at my neighbours house. And was transported 20 miles from home. When the trailer was opened my neighbour recognized him, but he got away.
I spent a whole month, every day, searching for him, 20 miles away from home.
After a month I had given up, and told myself that this would be the last night i went looking for him.
After another night of searching without any luck. I walked back to my car crying.
And then just as i was about get into the car, i heard a meow behind me. And it was him :´-)
I threw some kitty-snacks into the car, and he jumped right in. And spent night ride home purring on my lap :)

Something similar happened to my cat. She decided to go for a long long journey from our home in the forest across the street. She was gone for at least 3 months. The first month I spent every night yelling her name. Walking up and down the road every day for a month. Eventually I gave up thinking the worst she couldn’t get away from a coyote. At any rate 2 months later she pops up in our bedroom window like 3 in the morning. Meowing essentially saying let me in I jumped up and let her in. Woke up every one in the house with my excitement. She doesn’t leave the house anymore I think she learned her lesson. Personally I don’t believe she was lost in the woods across the street. I think she got locked in a garage or barn or something by accident. Because when she did get back home she was skin and bones. Took her 2 and a half weeks to be able to actually move around normally. Needless to say I’m happy she found her way home. And has given up on trying to get out of the house at any opportunity available.

A neighbor took two of my cats and hauled them to the woods to die. One found his way home 6 weeks later, full of ticks and weighing almost nothing. He cried in his sleep from the trauma. It tools weeks before he felt safe again. The other cat made it home two weeks later. She cried in her sleep just like the other cat. I still have one of them now. She is 15 years old and still smart and loving. Thank you for sharing, you are a great story teller.

I can feel the desperation this man went through when his boy first went missing. My cat went missing twice and both times I dealt with the exact same feelings. Every chunky grey squirrel was him, I walked for hours and sobbed at the library while printing Missing Kitty posters. Sobbed desperately every night. It was just as devastating at 27 as it was at 13. I honestly think the only times in my life that I'd experienced something like pure joy was upon being reunited with my kitty after being so broken at the prospect of never seeing him again. He's passed now, after being with me for 19 years. Miss him every day...

I'm so glad you found your baby and may he RIP ❤ I know the joy and relief you felt because I felt it too last summer when I thought that my precious boy was lost, but then I found him as I was walking through the neighborhood calling for him. The way he meowed when responded to hearing my voice broke my already broken heart. I could tell he was desperately looking to find his way back home. When I thought I might never see him again and never know what happened with him, the sick hollowness in my heart felt like the end of the world.

This is the most beautiful and heartbreaking video I've ever seen. And I agree 100% with everything you say about how a cat's mind work. How they experience life, and time. I lost my dear cat 7 years ago. He was snatched from me. Stolen. I searched for him everywhere but I've never found him again. There's not one day I don't think about him. I dream about him. He used to be my best friend. My only friend actually. It was just him and me in the world. Just him and me, watching movies together, and you would cuddle in my arms. And then, the world ended. I always think how much he must have suffered when he was separated from me. How much he must have missed me. Just like I missed him. I remember having hallucinations too, just like you Isaac. I would dream about him while being wake. I was so despair. I used to burst in tears in the middle of meeting and parties. I think I lost my mind along the way. My mind broke at one point. I couldn't handle the pain. Not knowing is the worst, it can drive you crazy. When you know your love one is dead, then that's it, he's dead. But not knowing... it's too much. My mind cracked. I know I'm not the same. Now time passed, our life together passed. Even if we are reunited, we can't recover the lost years. We will never have our life back. We can't go back in time. I miss you buddy. It's been 7 years. Seven years my friend. Life has become a long long waiting, and nothing more. I can't feel anything anymore. Just the void inside. I spent the last 7 years completely numb and emotionless. And now watching this video I started to cry again. I didn't know I could still cry. It's good to know I'm still alive, so thank you Isaac for sharing this story. I do hope he found another home, and was able to live a happy life. I hope he was able to play, to sniff flowers, to catch the warm sun on his face on an autumn afternoon. And I hope, one day, I will see him again. But I always wonder if we ever get reunited, even if that reunion happens in Heaven, will he remember me? Will he remember our life together?

My best friend of 19 years left his shell 10 years ago. It was time to go and with the aid of the professionals we helped him on his way. Earlier that morning it was raining and I moved him to his couch outside where we sat and listened to the tink tink of gentle drops overhead while we waited. The time arrived and as the vet Nurse was doing her part he looked at me in a way so that I knew I was the last thing he saw. He seemed to say thank you. He's the only thing I've ever loved and the best at teaching me how; right up to the very end. But it wasn't goodbye. I asked him if he could take care of my weather for me, and now I love the weather every day, no matter what it's like. But it's the rain that feels a little more special and I stand in it every time and say thank you in return.

Wish I could leave a photo with this comment. My cat 'Sidney Vicious' is approaching his 16th birthday. My wife and I travelled a lot for years; leaving Sid to be cared for by my father-in-law (FIL); who would visit him every day we were gone...and hang out with him. The last was our 2014 vacation to Guam for two weeks. Flash forward to Thanksgiving Day 2023, and my in-laws visited our home for the afternoon. Sid hadn't seen him in over nine years, and he isn't an outgoing cat. Anyways, Sid caught sight of my FIL from the top of the stairs. He turned around, went down to the first floor, and immediately went to give him a wonderful welcome! Head butting, curled his tail around my FIL's hand, and rubbed against his legs. Absolutely no denying Sid remembered him well; and was very glad to see him again. Cats DO REMEMBER someone they're fond of! So don't let people tell you otherwise!

You can watch them think about it, it's interesting.

She once got lost and I walked the streets in my neighborhood at all hours of the night calling her name. I heard her meows inside a neighbor’s garage. The neighbor was hesitant to open the garage door, but I was not budging, and out she ran into my arms. I knew someone had her trapped, even if it was accidentally, because she was punctual for everything. Including bedtime. I love you tabby girl.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. Thank you very much for your time.
Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.
(19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad)..
God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.”
      (2:136 / Translated by Community)

      Salam (Peace) --------------

If you're still feeling this way this many years later, then you were a good kitty mama who put the cat's interest above her own. Don't feel guilty or ashamed for doing that.

I noticed a cat living in my second garage where I leave the door open and put cat food out and then eventually got to meet him and realized that he was a lost house cat. He was a very sweet and healthy boy but clearly had gotten lost. I looked on the lost pets section of Facebook and saw a person looking for a similar looking cat. Come to find out a family had lost their cat for a few months and were so happy to have him back. Still such a good feeling a year later

I've had cats all my life, and I'm in my 40s now. So I've had them come and go more than a few times, and since they're so full of personality and become such a big part of your life, it's never easy to lose them.
But what I remind myself that helps me, is that I know they lived their best life, they were spoiled and they know they had it good. They get comfort from us too, like I recently took him to the vet. He stayed close to my side, with his face pressed against my leg. Just like how a kid might hide their face when they're shy or nervous.
I noticed that as some of my cat's got old, they would start spending more time with us in ways, just enjoying our company and being in our presence. They do certain things like they know that their time is running out. I think it brings them to peace having us in their thoughts.

It has been years, but I still can't look at pictures of her. I can't forgive myself for forgetting to lock the cat flap. Things were stressful inside the house and I was trying to help some strays. I think she just felt left out. I can't forgive myself for that.

I concur that Watson went looking for his bonded buddy, then he kept looking. He didn't return to his kitty sitters, probably because he wasn't bonded to them. He wandered in search of his old pal, and probably thought he was abandoned when he didn't find him. But only because he didn't find him. He was altered by his time alone, not fitting into an established cat community. I don't know why Julia didn't take him to a veterinarian immediately. That's the first thing I've done when I take in a stray or street cat. At least she thought to take him 6 years later when he suffered an injury. When mine go to a new home, they always know me, and come for hugs and cuddles. It's hard to see them not try to leave with me, even though it's a good sign that they're at home and happy. That's what I took care of them for. But I do that on purpose. I can't take in all the stray cats in the world. And cats just want to belong to their colony, human or feral. They want routine. They don't like their lives to be shaken up. They need to know where they fit in, and it's hard for them to begin relationships with other cats once they are in a comfortable routine with an established order. So leaving Watson Sebastian with Julia was best for him and for Bobby. It doesn't make it less painful, but it makes it the right thing to do, and there's peace with that.

Yes, I agree. I worked locating lost animals for over 20 years and have found they definitely remember their former lives with their people. And yes, Watson either went looking for Isaac, or left because he didn't want to be there. This (cat escaping the home where he was taken to) happens often. I wonder why Isaac didn't take Watson with him? I also left my cat behind when I was house-sitting for a friend's dog. My kitty was indoors healing from an injury. He escaped the day after I left and was killed by a car. I'm glad Warson was rescued. It was brave and selfless for Isaac to not upset his new environment or Julie. I don't know what I would have done. One client of mine found his dog in another state almost one year after he went missing. The woman caring for him had grown attached, so they (the dog's person and the new woman) decided to split him 6 months with him and six months with her. Harder to do that with cats. 🙏 What a bittersweet story.

@@kimfleuryI can understand her position. Most owners are probably not as good of a pet guardian as she is. My dad has returned dogs to owners in his neighborhood only to see them improve their fencing to keep the dog in. He would walk by and the dog would whine, but he would never see the dog walked. One woman only arrived to get the dog after several days like it was a burden. I had a similar experience with a friendly dog. The owner wanted me to buy it. I have two cats that were given up by their owners. I think the cats are both wonderful (in different ways) and often wonder what the previous owners were thinking. One of the owners hinted she wanted the cat back after I took him to the vet to get his shots and she knew that he was more affectionate to me than he was to her.

I was able to not cry until the ending when you started talking about how animals experience the world moment to moment and how he probably felt the memories he had with you… From there I was sobbing with each new thing you said ..
I lost my cat Noodle when I was 15. I am 19 now, and I searched and searched like you had, I never found her. Noodle was with me since she was born, She got lost just a few months after her first birthday. I am autistic. And she brought me a certain compassion and comfort I did not get from other people. During the time of my life that I had her my sensory issues were the worst they had ever been, I had a lot on my plate and didn’t have the internal structure to deal with it and was constantly melting down about little things, often noises, sometimes even small movements in the corner of my eye would bother me to such a degree I would flail around hopelessly in pain. My only support was her, she came to me when I cried, and was able to calm me down. She was slightly fluffy and very soft, but her tail was VERY fluffy. She was adorable, elegant, deeply intelligent, and the silliest little thing since she was born, I named her Noodle because she wiggled around like a noodle when she was just a small kitten. Often with how small she was and how fluffy her tail was she looked like a squirrel. What you said about seeing a cat and thinking it was your cat.. This happened to me with squirrels. I thought she was in the trees. I would cry when I realized they were just squirrels. Losing her made me struggle in school more than I already was.
Even now at over 4 years later I will hear meowing outside in the middle of the night and think in the back of my mind that she has come back, I know at this point it’s hopeless, but I can’t help but check if it’s her. I’m sure she’s safe with someone. If she is she’s probably been with them much longer than she was with me anyway. It just hurts and I worry for her safety still.
I used up a whole can of whipped cream once spraying it outside.. She used to come running when she heard me spray it she loved having a little bit as a treat.
You’re video really spoke to me. It hurts looking back at the photos and videos I have if her. I’m glad you got to see your cat again.

Sidenote and not trying to make you cry more or anything but I did the math in relation to how long a day is for a cat versus our time since every single human year is 9 cat years - so 1 hour and 11 minutes is the equivalent to 1 day to your cat. This explains why they’re so happy and eager to see us when we get home it explains why they worry so much when we sleep it explains so much that we didn’t really think of or realize well that I really didn’t think of realize until I did the math one year is 40.55 days to a cat. So 3 days is essentially a month ish to your cat. Don’t worry I already cried about this too😂

@lynzblk that is not really how it works. Animals don't understand their life spans like that. We do know from certain experiments that animals perceive time differently though. There is a cool video that talks about it. ua-cam.com/video/Gvg242U2YfQ/v-deo.html things actually move a bit more quickly for cats than people surprisingly. However dogs do perceive things slower like you seem to think for cats. Not exactly how it works but for an hour to a human a cat would think 50 minutes had passed or so.

crazy this popped on my feed because about 13 days back, i had to say goodbye to 3 stray pups(1 month old) i fostered for two weeks. as a person who has not experienced expression of true love & care from anyone in my family or any other person, i immediately formed a deep attachment with the puppies who unexpectedly showed up in my backyard. i love petting them and seeing them get excited when i brought them food. they all had this distinct calmness on their faces...almost a mature look for their age. not going to lie i had a fave, the black one, he seemed the most like me- naturally stood out and would rather be alone than in chaos. 2 weeks later all 3 of them where adopted by my neighbours. i felt devasted, for the first 4 days away from the pups i would abrubtly break into tears. i understood this was because it was the first time i had experienced love. the first time i taken care of someone selflessly and felt joy of feeding someone...and watching them them fall asleep. i just felt this inexplicable joy that i fear i haven't before...and it wasn't loud...just subtle bliss & relief i felt on the inside. even though it hurts not having them around, i wouldn't trade the experience of getting to love and care for those 3 precious souls.

We had a cat when I was growing up that was an indoor outdoor cat and we lived at a lake. One day the cat stopped coming home and after all our searching we concluded a mountain lion or something got her. Fast forward 1.5 years and we went to petcetera to get a friend for a cat we adopted shortly after losing the outdoor one. My mom walks in towards the pens with the cats and one charges over to the edge reaching up and meowing at my mom. It looked identical to our previous cat so we got the store to check the ear tag which when they did showed the contact info was for my mom. Turns out some old lady saw our cat, thought it was a stray, kept it for almost 2 years then dropped it at this pet store the week we decided to go adopt a new cat. Yes we had to pay to get our own cat back but it was worth it, she lived another like 4 or 5 years before having to be put down due to mouth cancer. Cats are our friends and no matter what their reaction to seeing you is, if its been a long time, they still have a sense of value to the connection you had with them, at least in my experience lol.

Hi. My name is Jean-Michel and I would like to thank you for sharing Watson’s story. I don’t have the words to let you know how deep you have reached my heart. I'm 50 and I cried like a little boy. I also share my life with a cat named Elvis. I adopt him 12 years ago when I was living in an apartment. Even if he liked to play and to cuddle he was very sassy and also very nasty sometimes . He broke a lot of things and destroyed furniture. During the night I had to lock him up in the bathroom : he wouldn’t let me sleep. I was dreaming having a cat who loved to share my bed but that wasn’t the case at all. Then after 2 years I bought a studio with a garden. We moved on his birthday and I gave him the best birthday's present ever : an access to the outdoor. He changed completely. He never touch the furniture and even if he spend most of the night outside I could find him sleeping on my every morning. The only thing was that every time I was back home I had this anguish to not find him anymore…
Then a few month later and actually the morning of my birthday I woke up and he was not on my bed. I knew immediately that he was missing. Then 2 weeks later a nice woman called me : she found an European cat like Elvis in his garage. She was living not very far from me. When I arrived the cat was hiding below a car and when I called Elvis he started to meow like never and came to cuddle. I was so happy !
The funny thing is that from that day he cured me of anxiety to not find him home… and he still sharing my bed every night

I just lost my best friend. He was a 23-year-old Shih Tzu / Pekingese mix. He had been with me all his life. Together, we have endured bad times and the good. When my wife died, we cried together. Now, I am all alone. As time has healed the pain of the loss of my wife. So time will heal the pain of this loss. But, never will I forget the unconditional and never-ending love from them both.

We had somewhat similar but reverse story. Here it is:
A year ago, in the winter, some new, ginger cat showed up in our neighborhood. He was very cute, ginger with white collar and toes, thick tail and tabby muster. He was very friendly with people, especially children, and looked like well-kept as he belonged to someone. Every day, he greeted children walking out of school and some tried to take him, but parent's didn't allow it, so he was always back. He was such a sweetie. Because he was fully grown and showed up from nowhere, it felt as he was lost, but on the other hand, he looked well, so we were telling ourselves, that it is someone't cat. We also pet him from time to time. Once, when we went for a walk, he was following us for a few kilometers. He clearly loved our presence as we loved his, but we already had an older cat, so we couldn't even think of taking him home. He looked well after each month, so there was no concern. After walks, we had to lose him, so he wouldn't follow us straight to home.
A few months went by, spring was fully developed, and our old cat got really sick. After two weeks, he passed away, which was a tragedy for us. We were not ready for a new cat, so we decided to wait and take some new cat from the shelter, but didn't know how long we will wait.
A week or two later, the ginger cat found our garden. Once he saw us, he just stayed. After a few days, we gave him food as he was clinging to us and our home, and that was it. He let himself into our home. He wasn't shy. It was decided, we will keep him, but wait a week or two, to see if he stays. He did.
After that time, we started walking from neighbor to neighbor, asking if someone knows the cat and if they know who he belongs to. Yeap, the cat was popular, going from home to home and people were feeding him occasionally, but no, he didn't know who he belongs to. He was staying in some barn to keep himself warm in a winter. It was clear, that the cat is free to adoption and basically chose us.
We wanted to scan the chip, but were scared how he reacts to car and vet, so we waited a few weeks. Then one day his paw became swollen, so we decided finally to act. He was calm, and probably a bee stung him, no biggie. The vet scanned him and got the number... We contacted the previous owner, and it turned out, it was a cat of their daughter, but he went missing on New Year's Eve. However, the family also had an autistic boy and the cat was problematic for him, because the cat was audible, meowing when he wanted something and it frustrated the boy. The family decided it's better to leave the cat with us, but was afraid to tell the daughter, who missed the cat very much.
A few months later, they called and said that the finally informed her about the cat. We scheduled a visit. The cat didn't show affection towards the girl, but started playing with her, biting her fingers (which he wasn't doing with us). It turned out, she was playing with him like that before. After that, she said her goodbyes, because the parents were firm on leaving the cat with us. This made the girl sad, but us happy, because we loved him from the first sight and loved him even more when he stayed with us :). Naturally, if the parents allowed her to keep the cat, we would have to let him go. Luckily for us, they hadn't.
In the end, it was the cat that adopted us, and he is staying with us ever since.

For weeks she came just for cuddles, but didn't want to eat anything. I wanted to take her in but my husband thought it probably belonged to someone. We had to go away for few weeks but decided that once we came back if the cat was still here that we would take her to the vet and have her checked over to see if she belonged to anyone. Lucky for us she was not microchiped, but she had been neutered. No one ever came looking for her and she is the light of our lives. We can't imagine our lives without her now. She rules our home.😊❤

@OuterEdgeOutpost I understand your concern, however, I don't think people would really see it that way if you wrote it. You'd be preserving this beautiful memory and, in a way, both you and Watson's bond long after he is gone. You don't even have to publish it for the public. Write it for yourself or those you'd like to share it with that you trust. When I was a young child, I read Call of the Wild and White Fang a few times, and both books really impacted me in a positive way. One of my favorite movies of all time is the Homeward Bound series as well. It's true we can never fully grasp the perspective of an animal, but even works of fiction can inspire and be a call to action to take better care of nature. Your book would be a mix of fiction and reality and the true story could always be included as an excerpt in the back while the book is dedicated to Watson and whoever else has helped you and him in both your journeys in life. I think it would be incredibly sweet.

I actually have something like this. A couple months ago a cat appeared and would wonder around a local asda (A supermarket). It was a black and white cat (Forgive me i don't know cat breeds) so we, the community, dubbed him Oreo. He was incredibly friendly, talkative and a good cat overall. One day he even followed me home, I live only a couple roads away, and he stayed for the night (We do not judge the great oreo.) And then a couple weeks later I saw a missing cat poster online and it was definitely oreo! I told almost everyone I knew about it and then we all agreed to catch the cat and take it to the owners who lives almost an entire COUNTY away! We to this day don't know how he got there, neither do the owners. It was incredibly easy to put him in the carrier and I personally drove him all the way to his family. I felt good and prideful as he returned to his family, they were crying happy tears and were extremely thankful. And then out of nowhere, he turns around to walk back to me and then nuzzles against my leg, which I thought was his way of saying goodbye. I haven't kept in contact since but I know the great Oreo is still being a silly friendly goober to this day. Miss you buddy.

I had a very similar experience with our beloved Boston Terrier, Rio. We found her at the Colorado river, wandering the desert. She was tiny and frail, and clearly in need of love and nurturing. We took her in without question, and she became ours. My brother left our back gate open one day and she got out. We lived in a rural part of Southern California, called Wildomar. It's pretty desert like itself, but not quite as much. We were worried about all the wildlife that could harm her, and after 2 years it became difficult not to assume the worst.
My mother was coming to pick me up from a friends house just up the street from ours. My mom and sister saw an older lady walking a little tiny Boston Terrier. It was her. She even had the same collar on that we bought her originally. My mom asked if she could come get me, so that I could see her, which I'm so grateful for. We all balled and she knew it was us right away, it seemed. The lady was recovering from cancer, and her husband had recently passed. We couldn't rip her away from her, but seeing her one more time, knowing that she was well, and belongs to someone with a good heart was enough to ease the pain of separation. Rio, I still miss you to this day, and I hope you lived a beautiful and full life with her.

Yes, the youtuber here needs to make arrangements for that - hopefully the cat is still chipped in his name and will remain that way. Otherwise, like many abandoned animals when guardians pass, the cat will end up being euthanized at a shelter. It's unfortunate most people have this huge understanding of what an animal "shelter" is when really it's more like animal "Prison where you have 3-5 days to be adopted randomly or be put to death". I think the county and city organizations like to perpetuate that so they don't get as demonized but seriously people need to KNOW they are potentially putting their pets through absolute hell for their last moments when it absolutely doesn't have to be that way.
