I spent my entire building career building bear resistant shelters/homes - it's not difficult, you just have to pick a location that doesn't have bears

Hi guys, it is so cool to see you become quite skilled at constructing these shelters. You refine your techniques and keep things very interesting. I love Hugo leaving his footprints in the snow on the trail out at night. Keep up the good work.❤

I likes your construction technique. Wonderfull! 😅 Be carefull that the water in the pond doesn’t invite itself into the cabin 😊 Hi from France.👍

Very entertaining video, well shot and edited, and a monumental project. You made various choices I highly agree with, such as roasting the ground-contacting floor joists to help preserve them. Some of the other wood in contact with the ground could have benefited from roasting as well, such as the stair treads, various stakes driven in, etc. But altogether, very neat and satisfying!
A minor point, but I do think the notches should always be facing down, to help make the joint rot-resistant. Upward-facing notches can serve as a catchment for water, which more easily penetrates the broken/chopped wood fibers of the notch, than the unbroken fibers of the log's outer surface. The tarps held against the outside of the logs (good choice there, btw) do help, of course. But given how you pre-assembled first (another good choice there, fitting the logs up where it's easier), I thought you would disassemble log-by-log upside down, the top of the pre-assembly becoming the bottom of the final assembly, with notches upward in the pre-assembly and downward in the final assembly. But the tarp will probably do the trick in this 'piering-type' application (as in coating the outside of a foundation/basement wall). Definitely should be downward-facing in an above-ground cabin with no tarp, though, where they'd be exposed to the weather.
All in all, good job, and beautiful design! Can't wait to see the final result! Good work!

😊😊. Love to watch and learn about the techniques used to build bushcraft shelters . To whom ever wants to reply!! Ive seen a few guys now. That burn the ends or even down the whole log. Why do you burn some of the logs????
Now about the game camera. 😅😅 My friend has a bunch and sets them everywhere.. Says hes gonna get a big foot on it one day😅😅😅😅😅.
I tried to tell him that every animal ive ever seen on them always comes walking up to check it out. 😅😅. Even from a distance,!!
They know they are there. Just not sure what they are. Deer, elk, bear, hogs, racoons, fox, coyotes.. everything senses them. So he thinks hes gonna capture a Sasquatch that out smarts all of these other animals all day long. I hope one comes up to the camera and looks directly into it and picks his nose and says BOO!!! 😅😅😅😅..
Its cool to watch all the wildlife for sure.
Get some really good footage down here in Florida. In the wildlife conservation areas, and the swamps. All kinds of critters. So im watching this one he posted in a dry area with a trail and a tree had blown down across the trail. So hear comes the coyote and he hoped over. Then a few deer, then a couple of big black bears,. Even had a mother FL panther and her cubs come hopping over the tree. Along with coons and opossum's and all. All the normal things youd see right. Well i couldn't believe my eyes when this ginormous frickin fat 12 ft gator comes strutting down the trail and even he got over that damn tree. 😅😅😅😅. It took me by surprise though because it was a sandy trail in scrub oaks and palmettos everywhere. High ground!! So you wouldn't expect to see a huge gator coming down the trail. 😅😅
As i said though!! Really cool animals are out there . Ok thats my little story. ✔️😎✌️

The reason for burning the logs is to make them more rot and insect resistant. It's an old technique and is generally used for any wood below or touching the ground. The stairs didn't get done likely because they are accessible and easy to replace. Those that build cabins with milled lumber for siding will often scorch the outside instead of applying a finish or paint.

You poured gasoline onto the prepared pile of wood to light a fire. I really don't like this kind of thing, so I stopped watching, which means there will be no subscription. I respect the most those on UA-cam who use only hand tools, they don't even use steel nails, only wooden dowels, and seal the roof with clay. "Leave no trace" must be there because the world is already too polluted by people's stupidity and ignorance.
