Catching Bait (Anchovies) to Eat *Surprisingly Delicious*

  • My main goal today was to catch some bait to eat. It was a success! All you need to a Sabiki rig and a 1-2oz weight to catch em. There is no limit to these in California and at the right time of year you can catch em from piers and jetties in endless numbers. Enjoy!

When making a salad, put the acid (in this case vinegar) on before the oil. Reason being if you do oil first, it coats the greens and doesn't allow the vinegar to penetrate and disperse through the whole salad.

Hey man, I have been a fisherman for about 48 years. I have a couple of really decent boats, and have fished off-shore in one 70 miles. The last 10 years if my life, sea sickness has been the "uninvited stow-away" on every one of my ocean fishing excursions. I still catch fish, but there doesn't seem to be a cure for the sick EX-Navy Veteran(me). I will still fish if I go out...sick or not. I will get scopalomine before my next trip to see if it will turn things around. Good luck man...we need you out on the water so we remember what it means to "man-up". Peace Brother 🙏

A common way to eat anchovies in Japan is to dry overnight in shade after brine in salt water for about an hour. Keep head on but remove guts. Next day, when fish is semi dry, put in an oven and broil for several minutes. It tastes good. You can eat from head to tail, including bones.

We share that same problem. I get sea sick in the ocean too! Lucky im have the Puget Sound to fish in. No sea sickness there. I'll have to try fried anchovies sometime. Tight lines!

An older fisherman told me he never leaves home without relief bands. Primarily used for chemo patients and pregnancy. Old time says you can go from sick as a dog to feeling great in no time. About $100 on Amazon. I've never tried because I do t get sick but I know he had one on as well as his buddy.

Thumbs up if you thought the peanut oil in the crustal geyser bottle was a pee bottle in the first shot of it.
Thanks for sharing your adventures man! I've lived in CA since I was 3, and I'm 32, and I've never fished the ocean. I need to go.
