Thank you for your reaction! I’ve been watching all the first reactions to this, and basically no one else has mentioned the toxic masculinity education aspect that’s at play in this fucking gorgeous work of art. Jimmy’s story is very much centered in toxic masculinity, the idea that being a man is defined by taking advantage of people to get “the most [money]”, without any mention of being a man being about taking care of the people around you. I hope more people talk about this as folks have a chance to process this incredible art piece, as I believe it’s not a subtle theme in it. I’ve already watched the most popular reactors and a few more lesser-known ones, and you are definitely the first one I’ve seen who has talked about it at all. I understand it being a bit overlooked in initial reactions because there are SO MANY things being presented here (especially in terms of how money corruption happens, and what that means and how it plays out in a larger cultural level), but generational trauma and indoctrination into toxic masculinity are not subtle themes in this story (imo). Thank you for being the first (that I’ve seen so far) to mention it.
Such important points about the way emotional abuse can ruin a child's life, and the way toxic masculinity forces so many young men to push for financial success regardless of principles.
Yes, that's Ren playing piano at the beginning! He also composed the music for piano and strings! He directed the video and produced the music/audio... Yet another incredible performance from Ren! An absolute masterpiece...again! :)
True masterpiece.❤️🔥 I loved your insights about the death of divine feminity and toxic masculinity. You are so right. It is so tragic listening to entitled young ladies choosing male partners based on height and money so they can live as spoiled children. Our young men have no healthy outlets for testosterone and gone are the family roles of guide and protect. So very sad.😢 Problem is that most of those who try to live their lives outside of the money game are crushed and broken.☹️ by the sheer weight of sickness everywhere. Great reaction. Thank you.👍 🥰🥰🥰Hugs from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦
His father is the Patriarchy writ large. It’s a very personal story, but it’s also the result of a much larger story where the dominant western culture, ruled by outdated ideals of masculinity, is killing all of us. The number of reactors who couldn’t/didn’t pause is wild.
Unfortunately, the game has been around for a long time... and will last for eons to come. Fortunately, there are those who put their finger on the wound. It is necessary not to desensitize and not lose the ability to feel the pain that this sh... game causes and, for that, thank you very much Ren. A masterpiece video! And good reaction from you... thanks! P.S. I'd like to come back here in about 2-3 eons to see if we're still wallowing in this shitty little game!...
Doing the "Rain rain rain rain" chorus, at the end, without even having to sing it! Genius! :)
If you listen carefully, a violin is playing that tune.
That Bates Motel analogy is very fitting to the concept. I really appreciated your reaction and thoughts
