  • 99 Psycho Clowns competing in the 2016 Southern 80. Taking off boat #5 in the Superclass division to finish 3rd Outright in a time of 31.30. This video shows the entire race from start to finish, check it out to get an inside to what goes on inside the boat at speeds up to 120mph, and how difficult it becomes for the driver once you catch the boat in front. Our superstar skiers Codie Rigg and Steve Berry did an amazing job in very tough conditions as we just could not make a safe pass. Driver Jessica Pearse and Team owner and observer Daniel McMahon have an incredible bond and are working very well together in the boat.

    GR8 view . What a race but tell me what does the tap on the driver leg mean?

    • @snapshot12002
      @snapshot12002 6 років тому +1

      Looks like a hold steady speed command. Heavy tapping slow down. Does it mostly in the sharp corners. Once they straighten out he pulls his hand up and motions for more speed.

      Snapshot12002. I'd say you are right but they also look like they have headsets in the helmets. Can't understand why they would be using the hand signals

      @@ianmiller7336 in case they mishear you over the engine noise , it helps to be sure of things when you got your race results depending on you, go to fast and the skiers stack it and that’s a pretty disappointing race and could injure the skiers, you don’t want that

    Ok,, a few dumb questions to ask.
    I see that the levers on the steering column are for trim controls but does he control engine speed with a gas petal on the floor?
    Do the boats have a transmission like a 3 or a 4 speed to get up to the high speeds?
    I have to say that is some awesome team work between driver and spotter! And to the skiers at the end of a 200ft rope, you have balls the size of church bells!

    • @themoops811
      @themoops811 4 роки тому

      Yes throttle is a foot pedal. I am not sure about this particular setup with the Merc racing engine but these big unlimited boats generally run 2 speed transmissions with the low gear to get them out of the hole. You can hear it shift at about 0:31

    • @normiewho
      @normiewho 5 років тому +2

      They do 80km in just over half an hour, average speed just under 100mph, top speed would be around the 130mph mark.

    At about 20:00 the engine sounds like a miss-fire and can see black puffs of smoke

    • @haydengreen3821
      @haydengreen3821 4 роки тому

      Throughout the entire video the boat is "puffing smoke" , from my standpoint as a drag car/boat builder, it appears they are running it rich on the big end, to keep temps down. Nothing sounded out of the norm as there is lots of vibration, those motors are no where near the weak point of those boats.

    So much slack in the wheel I begin to wonder if it’s been modified by technology.

    • @SkiRacingOz
      @SkiRacingOz 7 місяців тому

      Not slack just correcting it, a boat at These speeds is very delicate
