I like this Tapo camera. This is the first time I have heard of this company, but I think it's worth a try. No fee with all of the extras. Wyze got too big for their own good. It's Tapo time!
I just tried the C211 model and I can say YES, better than a wyze cam as I have them too. The Tapo opens videos way faster and they look great. Also, the video doesn't skip the first chunk of action like the Wyze cams do.
The free AI/person detection is a big selling point for me since I just want a basic camera for my front door without having to pay for a subscription. Looks like I should also be able to incorporate the person detection feature into my Alexa routine, if I'm not mistaken. Can't wait to try it out when it arrives tomorrow. Update: I've had this unit for almost 2 weeks over my front door, and so far, it's been great for me. I have it set on person-detection to trigger my front entry lights at night with a delay to turn off after a minute. This way, not every other motion would trigger the lights. The video clip is also good because it shows me a complete clip that has a few seconds leading up to the event as well; i.e. I'm not just seeing the back of a delivery person as he's leaving because he ran to my front door to drop off a package.
@chain2331 Have the Tapo app installed. Enable Tapo Skill in Alexa, add new routine in Alexa, add event, smart home, fine the Tapo cam, select detection, save, add action, smart home, then find the switch/light or whatever device you want to turn on.
Thank you! After Wyze’s recent security problem, was thinking of getting away from their cloud storage. And just now there’s a sale on the Tapo which doesn’t need cloud and also supports RTSP (unlike Wyze that removed that firmware publicly)
I already have a bunch of these together with the new tapo c125. I replaced all my wyze cams. A big plus for me here is RTSP support which I use with frigate and blue iris. Please review the c125 as well and the C520WS too! Interested to see how it compares to others
Thank you! Had my first issue with a Wyze camera. < 4 month old V3 issue resolution not resolved so this looks like great package to consider. Thanks again for all your fine reviews.🙏
Great review as always. I'm so close to replacing all of my Wyze cams due to recent issues with the app and what seems to be Wyze and AWS problems. The one thing keeping me from making the changeover is the Wyze OG which I have mounted outside for the back of my property. In my opinion the OG has much better pic/vid quality over this C120. That said, your review makes a strong case to upgrade. Thanks as always for the work you put into your reviews, your channel is my go-to for all things security camera related!
Since the wyze 3.0 app upgrade I haven't been able to access any of my wyze devices (8 cams, doorbell, lights, door lock, plugs, vacuum and garage opener. Wyze Support is beyond terrible. Any comments on support from Tapo? There will always be issues with any tech product, but how those are handled makes the business one that I want to deal with. Wyze has lost me after this horrible incident with the 3.0 update.
I use my Wyze Cam 3 for 24 hour streaming to a second PC. Already with just 20 comments on here there are two talking about RTSP. It would be great if you could include RTSP (real time streaming) in your future camera reviews and possibly just have a video on the subject. Thanks.
Wyze killed all my older cameras after an update and I am far away to go and try to factory reset each one and reinstall, I believe they did in purpose so I will buy the other more expensive ones to replace them. Wyze was the best in one point, not any longer
3 minuet’s in a think the camera’s multi positioning has won me over because of the location for WYZE is limited for the location that it need’s to be installed. Night vision is good. The alarm/motion detection is very smart and is also that i have been thinking about to use it or not for the other area that i need a camera.
I quit Wyze cam years ago. It was always shutting off and not detecting motion. then they jacked up the price so i was out. Switched to Ring and doing great for way better prices.
Hi, long time viewer of your channel , first time commenting - I received my tap c120 today and have set it up, being a long time wyze customer and frustrated with their service, cost and dependability, it looks like this may be my next cam, planning on testing it for about 2 weeks and then probably replacing all 8 wyze cams I currently have set up, loving all the features this cam offers, thank for your guidance... please be well and stay safe....unfortunately It didn't work for me , sending it back to amazon...
I like this camera but I just don’t want to have to replace all my Wyze cameras. I have about a dozen. But this looks a bit better for the same or better price. And I love all the orbs when you did the night test at 6:30.
I bought a C120 camera to test. It's very nice except for one key problem. Often insects and birds fly in front of my Wyze cameras and they create a series of useless videos. It's easy to delete selected videos on the Wyze camera app, but not the Topo. The Topo camera software does NOT allow deletion of all these useless videos. It only allows you to reformat the entire SD card so you lose everything. It's a major oversight which I hope they will correct.
I gave up on Wyze cams long ago …..loving “MOST” of my Eufy cams….but this camera looks very inviting as I do not like having only one type of security camera….just in case it would go down. Thanks for the GREAT video an really appreciated everything you do.
Wish you'd expand your testing just a bit to include an evaluation as to how these cams work with Alexa or Google Home. Everything at my home is integrated through Google Home, so I always try to find products that work well with that home assistant platform.
Thanks! I would have loved to see the smart integration (w/ Google home) as this is were a lot of them fall short. I tried the Tapo C310 a few months ago and ended up selecting the Wyze v3 Pro because the feature set was similar and the image quality was better. Looking at the C120, the image quality is lower that the v3 and they do a crazy amount of sharpening to make up for details. The only real difference seems to be that you get the 'smart' events for free with Tapo whereas they're behind the subscription for Wyze
When you say "this is where a lot of them fall short" ... Do you think it might have something to do with Google? ..They are definitely behind than Amazon Alexa and the only brand that I will recommend with Google Home are Google Nest products.
@ That’s a good question - I mean the functionality is there because the nest product offer those but it’s just not integrated into the third party product. Ultimately, both sides are happy to bounce the responsibility off of each other but one side gets the marketing benefit of putting ‘works with google home’ on their package / marketing while offering little to no integration for the end user. As a consumer that’s one of the piece you cannot now before buying by looking at their material. That’s why I found your review of the software piece extremely valuablen in your videos
I might order this camera. It'll be my first time purchasing a camera, so I'm trying to learn what to look for when buying a camera 😅. I'm very new to this. Ugh 😔..trying to catch one of my neighbors vandalize my car.
Thanks a lot for a new great review! I’m in the middle of the process of buying 2 new WIFI outdoor cameras, and I’m between TAPO C120 and C320WS (both reviewed by you). It seems that both was almost the same features, but different shape. What do you think? Do you prefer one to another?
I have one on order to try out. Since this is an outdoor camera, one thing I see missing from all reviews is the size of the power adapter to know the size of the outdoor box that would be required. The majority of my outdoor outlets have a 2 3/4 deep cover. The power plug looks to be one which would be 2" tall. Adding a standard USB cable to it would add another 1", which would prevent the cover from closing. So, I am thinking I may have to get a USB-A to USB-C 90-degree adapter or find a shorter USB power brick so it can fit in the box.
Just got it in and I find that the cable is thin and flexible, but the door of the weatherproof box had to be forced closed. The amount of pressure on the cable would have me concerned in the long term. I am swapping the USB power supply to another that has the USB-A plug on the bottom side.
I'm a bit worried of the water resistance due to the way the usb C is connecting directly onto the camera. Wyze cams use a tail connection and a rubber seal where the male and female ends meet. Can you test the water resistance at the point of the USB C connection for us? much appreciated if you can.
I hope the colorpro version from c325wb is being used on this camera as well since the c325wb is much better at night because of color pro. Btw because of your unboxing vid of the c325wb, i bought 2 of those and they are great at night. Thanks
Not too bad. I may pick one up for testing. I have a Eufy E220 mounted next to one of my Wyze cams for testing as a possible replacemet and so far so good. Not a fan of the magnetic mount and much prefer the way the wyze and tapo mount. If they have RTSP or ONVIF support I may go with them and save a bunch of money. Smaller cameras with RTSP and a starlight sensor seem to be rare.
I'm surprised there's no feature to link other Tapo lights with the Spotlight. It would be nice if you could trigger Tapo bulbs when the camera detects motion.

I currently have a few wyze cams setup but not really happy with sound and subscription. I really want a 24/7 decent recording option. Do we need to do anything to access cameras outside of local network?
Thanks! Liked the video great review, so I bought two and could not set it up on iOS on my iPhone with the app it wanted to connect to a Tapo Wi-Fi, which was shut down immediately by iOS because it was not secure. I could never get around it it would not connect with my Wi-Fi network so I used my android phone and the app connected beautifully no problems whatsoever. So far I like it although I’m going to move it outside. Great picture like the app.Have you heard of this problem?
I'm really falling in love with tapo's lineup of cameras. Because before I always used eufy and don't get me wrong eufy is good but I just don't like that they don't record in the full resolution that's advertised and also the low frame rates
Question Wyze has sound alerts for any sounds within the sensitivity range 0 to 100. Does Tapo have a similar sound alerting or only alerts for the 4 sound types you showed in the video? Thanks !!
I’m starting to wonder if tapo is just a rebranded Wyze. So much seems similar. Create a different looking app and change the exterior case. I just did a little looking around and now I’m convinced that they’re just the same basic camera manufactured in China with tweaks for different sellers. Maybe the Tapo versions features might work a little better for some people but as far as physical hardware, they’re pretty much the same with the same capabilities that may be limited in one version and not in another.
How would you rate the video quality of the Tapo C120 vs the Eufy E220? This would be on my porch were I have can lights on at night at a low setting so it's never really dark.
What I don't like about wyze cam v3 is the slow notifications delayed video, then there's the speaker and alarm. Both are useless low volume. Is this camera better in those areas ?
Wait so it is the same as the wyze without a subscription you just get a screenshot message? Well I guess wyze you need to have cloud to see the video then. Can we directly access the video then outside local network if you have SD Card?
My Wyze cams that monitor my driveway can’t have alerts for cars because every time there is any motion in the driveway it reminds me there is a car in the driveway even if it has not moved. Does the same thing happen with these cameras?
I just bought two of these Tp-link Tapo C120 cams to test short and long term. I have a lot of Wyze cameras (about 20), and failure rate seems to be about 15-20% which is unacceptable.
@LifeHackster thnx, I was looking at more heavy duty outdoor tape, but maybe I'll just try and drill it in. To the wall is fine it's the power cable going through the wall to the inside, maybe ill look at a battery powered cam. Thnx again.
@@LifeHackster just installed it and I have to say that I liking the c120 a lot more than the v3p pro. The color night vision is much better as well as the AI and notifications speed.
They must have done something to the firmware because the audio quality is terrible. It barely picks up any voice at all. Even the lawn mower does not get picked up. Yours seems to be working as it should, but on both mine, the audio is terrible.
hey mines having audio issues too outside it has v1.1.13 firmware but not downloading the latest . I read it has something to do with noise filtering. audio skips or something; video seems fine
Have been testing this camera for a week now, great features I really wanted to like it - unfortunately for me it keeps disconnecting and freezing (which defeats its sole purpose)its outside my front door about 25 feet from my wireless access point - its packaged up and ready to be returned to amazon today after i get off work...disappointed to say the least Reply

It works but I usually don’t use them especially outside because you will get some notifications.
I just bought two of these Tp-link Tapo C120 cams to test short and long term. I have a lot of Wyze cameras (about 20), and failure rate seems to be about 15-20% which is unacceptable.
Thez should make an option to turn on siren manually
Does it have a web browser view where you can stream say 9 cameras at once?
I'm impressed 👍
what is the best camera for window setup ?
Can i save the recordings to my Synology NAS?
will this work with Spectrum wifi? I don’t know if my wifi is 5 or 2.4 or duo.
Hi, have you heard iMou cctv? I noticed you haven’t review iMou camera.😅
I did a few years back but not recently.
How do you schedule the camera to alarm on motion detection only at night? Can't seem to find out anywhere. TY
There is a schedule option on the alarm settings.
@@LifeHackster only on or off there. I just want to schedule it onlyat night.
you rekon that sticky back will work on a brick wall (under a window ceil ledge so no water/rain issue) or should i still drill it in. thnx.
Brick is uneven and more than likely the double sided mounting tape will not hold as long as it should be.
@LifeHackster thnx, I was looking at more heavy duty outdoor tape, but maybe I'll just try and drill it in. To the wall is fine it's the power cable going through the wall to the inside, maybe ill look at a battery powered cam.
Thnx again.
You don't need a subscription for the AI detection, but you still need it for rich notifications, which is just as bad. There is always a catch.
Is the motion detection based on pixels or IR motion?
Does Reolink NVR work for their wifi cameras?
Yes for Reolink WiFi cameras. I’m not sure about Tapo.
There's and old model c125 can you get it ans compré..
Can this camera work behind a window like wyze cam?
Yes.
Is the adhesive strong?
Great. Thank you.💐🌹🌷💐
Thanks for watching!
Is there a 5 min cool down like Wyze?
How does this compare to the Tapo c320ws?
Do you know if it has RTSP or onvif support?
Yes, it does.
does it come with SD card ?
can it announce that you're being recorded rather than sound siren?
No, just siren.
Does this connect to the tapo c420s2 hub?
How to get hold of this in Europe?
I’m not sure but check their website. Hopefully, they will be available there soon.
Can I use this in phl 210V?
I just purchase this based on your review. I'm definitely going to replace my Wyze v3 Pros with this camera.
Thanks for watching!
@@LifeHackster just installed it and I have to say that I liking the c120 a lot more than the v3p pro. The color night vision is much better as well as the AI and notifications speed.
If being do you connect yours to Power or run off charge????
If being used outside
This thing detected you from a far distance away that's pretty good
They must have done something to the firmware because the audio quality is terrible.
You forgot to try the sticker if its reliable
Have been testing this camera for a week now, great features I really wanted to like it - unfortunately for me it keeps disconnecting and freezing (which defeats its sole purpose)its outside my front door about 25 feet from my wireless access point - its packaged up and ready to be returned to amazon today after i get off work...disappointed to say the least

If these could only be accessed on my PC. I have tried the UA-cam way of doing it and they've changed the app to stop people.
I'm 20 cameras into wyze no problems with any of them I'm keeping them .
Same. It'll take a lot for me to abandon Wyze. I'm all in with them
Their web browser view is very unstable and not reliable enough to be used as a security camera system
@@rogershark9223 I only use my phone and never have an issue. When I get four ,five, six notifications in a row.... I know somebody is outside. Along with my yolink motion sensors I'm well alert.....
In my opinion for the money you can't beat wyze and it is user-friendly ❤ WYZE
I’ve had Wyze since the first version but I’m ready to jump ship because I’m tired of paying a monthly subscription so I don’t have a cool down time
