Very detailed and thorough review on the camera and on the app. I completely switched over to Tapo products (Camera, smart light bulb, and smart plug)
I started off with TP link devices, one of my still favorit smart plugs is made by them. I really think that Tapo is making plays to replace Wyze cameras in peoples homes. If they keep things up as they are now I can see that happening sooner rather than later.
Good review 🎉
Thanks
Super video!! These are great cameras!!! Can you erase single events ? Thank you?
Fantastic video, as I have said before. Is there a way to delete the “detected videos” from the time line ? I don’t mean any downloaded ones. Some embarrassing video got accidentally recorded, and I can’t figure out how to delete it.
Hi, thank you for your exhaustive review.
I have a question. When measuring the energy usage of your security cameras, did you stream video in the Tapo app?
I don’t have a watt meter for precise measurement, but I have a Tapo smart plug which can monitor energy use. And I found out that my C120 seems to use less energy than yours, and I'm wondering if my smart plug might not be accurate, or if streaming video in the app affected your measurements.
Yes, generally when I run these test I am streaming video or having the camera actively record video. This gets me the highest usage data, as most people will not care if the camera uses slightly less power but if it uses more then you say they don't like it.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your videos always provide valuable information.
Nice video. Looks like it's a good replacement to my Wyze. Can the person detection feature be incorporated with Alexa routines? For example, if a person is detected, it triggers Alexa to turn on the lights at my front door, without a subscription requirement?
Just took a look and yes it can as long as your lights are a smart device that can be triggered by Alexa. The trigger for the camera would be called "detects a person".
@@Wanderer001_Reviews Thanks!Just ordered one thru your link. If this works as advertised, it'll be a nice 2for1 camera and motion detector for my front door.
@@chakritw Thanks for the link love, hope it works out for you.
Not being able to download unless on the same wifi is a big problem in my opinion
Does the camera allow to integrate with other tapo products such as their smart light bulb? If so, can you setup a rule in the tapo app to turn on the light if the camera detects a person?
You can, this would be done through the "smart" area of the app. You can set a motioin detection event for person, pet, ect, and then have it trigger a smart switch or a light.
I just got one today and it can integrate it into a routine thru the Tapo app, like turning on a Tapo light. This also works with Alexa routines. I'm using mine for now at the front door, set it on person-detecion to turn on my front porch lights at night. So far so good.
@@chakritw Great to hear, thanks for the feedback.
How much time will it work with a normal 10000 mah powerbank with just motion detection mode?
That is a little hard to say as it depends on the amount of triggers you would get. However, doing an estimate using the max wattage I tested if this ran continuously at 4 watts it should be able to run for 104 days off a 10,000 mah power supply.
i'm all Wyze atm, but the free ai detection is making consider trying these.
Honestly I was too, but it is hard to argue with free ai detection and longer then 12sec motion clips even with an sd card.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews For sure. Then again, Wyze use to have free ai back in the day as well. Granted TPlink has been around awhile and wyze was new at the time. Is the pan cam just as good?
Do it have a cooldown option so it doesn’t go off every 2 seconds?
You can change the types of notifications you get or the area it is detecting. This camera does not have a cool down setting.
can i use 12v extension for this tapo camera. thanks
If you are asking about using an extension cord and then plugging into that you should be able to.
can you change 24 hr. military time into 12 hr am/pm?
It can not, at least right now. that could always change in the future with updates to the firmware.
rtsp supported? also when isolating the cams from the internet?
RTSP yes: www.tapo.com/en/faq/34/. Not sure what you are asking about when isolating the camera from the internet. This camera does need a wifi connection to work.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews it means in the router settings, you cut off the internet access from these cams, making sure they are not functioning outside of your home network. This makes them more secure.
@@boazveen9051 I have not tired this, and would need to look into that. But based on the settings and functions of the cameras they would need to call outside of your home network inorder to do some of the advanced feater options that it has.
I tesred and the cameras can be accessed from your phone with the internet connection to your router disconnected, but you will not get event notifications. Of course, your phone needs to be conected to your home WiFi for this to work.
How much better in quality is the 4mp camera vs the 3mp in the C110 / C111?
1080 video vs 2k video. It is very noticeable.
Tapo c120 is 2k QHD is 1440, so better than 2K which is only 1080. Overall though this tapo video ia not as sharp as Eufy c120. Aside from image quality, Tapo c120 clearly has way more features than the Eufy for the same price point. EDIT: turns out that my first tapo c120 was defective. The 2nd tapo c120 I purchased has just as sharp of a picture as the Eufy.
@@Redneck_Ed The stand on the Tapo C120 is also much better then the eufy C120.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews way better. I also edited my previous comment because my first tapo was defective which was causing the blurry picture. My replacement tapo c120 video quality equals Eufy, so tapo wins on that and having more features than Eufy.
Thanks, fantastic review. Do they have a customer service phone number, so you can talk to a person ?
Yes with a few differnt options: www.tp-link.com/en/support/contact-technical-support/#Hotline-Support
Have been testing this camera for a week now, great features I really wanted to like it - unfortunately for me it keeps disconnecting and freezing (which defeats its sole purpose)its outside my front door about 25 feet from my wireless access point - its packaged up and ready to be returned to amazon today after i get off work...disappointed to say the least
Well that is upsetting to say the least. Do you have any other smart home devices where this camera was? Could this be resloved with something like a mesh network or wifi repeater?
@@Wanderer001_Reviews it was mounted right beside a wyze v3pro that has been in place for over a year, no connectivity issues with the wyze, appreciate the response
I appreciate you taking the time to comment and share your feedback. It's always helpful to hear about real-life experiences with different smart cameras.
How can i get a home / away switch on my Galaxy home page
That would be a widget. On most Android phones this is done by pressing and holding on your home page and then searching for the Tapo widget.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews Already tried that and none of them worked like an on/off switch Thanks
What about the leave home one? You may need to set up a routine in the app for it to work though.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews That works to turn it on but need one to turn off when returning
Finally figure out the shortcut and routines. Thanks
I don't understand your audio test. Have you tried to listen to people talking to the camera? I have and it's crap. Isn't that the test that should be done?
That is what I show at 28:38. This is a download of a recording from the app.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews Thanks but I don't see it. I see the camera and some sort of measuring gadget. Then you standing talking.
I mean someone talking to the camer while you look at it in the mobile somewhere else. I had mine for a week and while I was gone I was trying to converese with people in the same room as the camera. I had the app on my mobile and I could barely make out anything they said. They heard me alright but I only heard distortion and saw lagging.
@@Valkyrja33 Yes, the person standing infornt of the camera is me. I was using the phone to record a live feed from the camera so that I could insert it as a test. Were you on your local WiFi or cell data?
Sorry I love my Wyze cameras❤. Fast to set up and great in salt water environment on a boat! 🛥️
Which Wyze camera do you use on a boat? Would be very intrested in hearing about that. For me going back to the Wyze cam v2 the cameras and the company just don't feel the same as they did when they were just starting out. I do not fault them at all for making money but harder to recommend them when other companies give you more optoins for free.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews Hello I have 10 Wyze v3 pro cameras on my commercial fishing boat. I’ve had them over a year now and they’ve been great little cameras! 😁👍🏻
It probably wouldn’t concern you, but Tapo is a really strong contender and might overtake Wyze considering how down bad Wyze has been lately.
@@tin.1 I have had no problems with Wyze or its camera. 3 years in the saltwater environment and not a problem.
