What's the deal with cholesterol on keto? ft.

- We had the opportunity to interview Dave Feldman, known for his cholesterol experiments and research, and asked him to explain what the most recent research tells us about keto and cholesterol. Because (spoiler alert) it's not as simple as high cholesterol = bad. Plus there may have been a discussion about why Oreos may lower cholesterol...but that (unfortunately) doesn't mean they're good for you.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen Fave Feldman, his work is amazing!
Had to get 2nd opinion on my blood test ‘cause doc wanted me on a statin. LDL 6.7 🇦🇺 (260 🇺🇸) My naturopath understood the reason was due to zero carb diet. Totally understand the curiosity here. 👏
The Naturopath understood the assignment.
Fascinating interview. I just donated. Feldman's work is incredible.
It really is!
Wow this came out great! Fantastic interview 😊
Thanks so much, Cristy! 💞💕
My brain is so happy when you do vlogs or podcasts like this! I love the details keep em comin. Thanks @realDaveFeldman
Glad you enjoy it. More to come!
Great interview! This is something I can share with friends and family that they can easily understand. Looking forward to the videos from the conference and future testings.
Awesome, thank you!
Loved this interview. So helpful at so many levels. Thank you
Sharon
Glad it was helpful!
Great interview - thank you!
Thanks for listening
Thanks for such an interesting conversation.
Thanks for listening
Thank you for sharing this information
Glad it was helpful!
Wonderfully informative. I had to listen closely to get the information to go into my brain, but it was absolutely worth it. My ketovore non-brain fog self was able to do it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My question is around how dynamic lipoproteins are…. I’m T1D and wear a CGM so I am acutely aware of how my blood glucose moves through the day and over longer time periods…. And glucose is energy… as is fat… so then logically one would expect that lipoproteins would also move dynamically depending on the available energy…. But how much and how fast? I guess this question is the basis of the lipid energy model (LMHR)…. As it happens my cholesterol markers are very close to the LMHR ‘test’…. 😊
For the oreos to bring down the ldl level more than the statin, he took his triglycerides up and possibly lowered his hdl. When my ldl comes down, all my other numbers go in a negative direction. It makes no sense to restrict cholesterol from the body.
I would sign up for this study, however, I do have other heart disease markers. ☹️. I like to drink it right away , as it is still warm, I also like KC cold!
Looking Forward to attending the conference.
Oddly, I had a doctor in the 80s attempt to test my ability to lose weight by putting me on a turkey on white bread diet. Since I lost weight on 1000 calories of turkey on white bread, he decided there was nothing wrong with my metabolism.
Wha??? Crazy. Lol
Such a great podcast
Thank you very much for watching and for your support.
Dave is an OG!
Great interview so far! Keto/keto -vore almost 2 years. Questionn, how can I get a CAC test? And do I need a doctor to do it?
Heart saver ct near me (google that). They might ask you for a doctors name at the time of the test
Just wanted to let Chris and Miriam know that when I went to my functional medicine doctor and showed her the label of keto chow minerals, she said "this is really good."
Nice!
My question would be what's in the oreos that has that effect.
It has sugar. The Lipide Energy model Dave and Nick are talking about says that by introducing energy (calories) in a form that is not fat, the body doesn't need to use lipoproteins (LDL) to move energy so the quantity of LDL goes down a LOT.
