    A few people in the comments have pointed out that the study by Valisure has been criticized and I appreciate the dialogue. My goal with this video is twofold - 1) to explain why I took down my previous video until more definitive answers are available and 2) to be able to share information with you as I come across it. Please check out the video description as there are several links there and the list of links may grow over time. Fear mongering isn't helpful. Jumping to conclusions isn't helpful. Media literacy, information sharing, and keeping an eye on what the FDA determines...those things are helpful. Also, it's worth keeping in mind two points - As doll collectors who do doll restoration with benzoyl peroxide, we use the product far less frequently than someone who uses it as an acne treatment. Also, as doll collectors who do doll restoration with BPO, we intentionally incorporate heat in a way that someone who uses it as an acne treatment wouldn't. I don't know what those two points ultimately mean in terms of risk, but they feel relevant to consider when reading up on BPO and benzene.

    I used a whiting tooth paste on a ink tatoo on a used dolly's arm and put it in the sun. It worked and got a 1/3rd of it removed. Two more sunny days should do it.

      My sister said we used Crest 3D white brilliance tooth paste. We used enough you couldn't see the ink on the arm. It has been raining here but finally got a sunny day. And sure enough about 2/3rds is gone. We left her out in the sun at least a good 6 hours till it was dried up on her arm and then washed it off. One more time should do it. It is not lightening the arm skin at all. Just the ink faded. Working on a Gotz German doll. She is beautiful with red hair. Love this doll community we have here. Oceans of respect from Florida 🏝️🏖️🌅🌴

    Oh no ! I was litteraly looking for your video today and I was like where’d it go ? Than I see this and I’m like you’re kidding! I just used acne cream on my newest doll find and I’m like 😳. It was so nice of that dermatologist to share all this information along with a couple others.I have never ever heard this before this is news to me but I’ll be more cautious from now on. I would love to hear others alternatives on how to remove stains bc I love a good TLC doll project. I’m sorry you put so much work into the video and had to take it down , but I hope you know I appreciate you for making a whole video of being cautious of using this product! Me too. And when I shared the information, I got a ton of backlash. One person even made a whole new post about BP and said, “it can’t be bad if people use it on their face!” I’m thinking about all the toxic stuff they put in cosmetics and our food that is allowed in the US but banned in other countries.

    Appreciate the info! After looking a bit into these findings, I will wait for a peer-reviewed study and a more reputable lab to replicate these results. I’ll keep using BPO until I know it’s actually harmful as it appears there is very minor risks to using 5% BPO on a doll. Unfortunately, this lab has been under fire for its ethics in the past and has a history of targeting products for potentially containing benzene which has not been proven. Don’t throw away your BPO yet as it’s far more likely that there is little to no risk when we are using it on dolls.

    • @agtakesover
      @agtakesover  6 місяців тому +1

      That is the nice thing about providing sources and encouraging people to read them, right? Rather than fear-mongering, ppl can read up and decide which risks they want to take. I'm going to discontinue using BPO ( I was using 10%, not 5% and always with heat) because it's not something I need right now (our large collection of dolls is stain free with a few *minor* exceptions) and I don't mind playing it extra safe just in case. But I'm certainly not trying to incite panic or blow risks out of proportion. For me, it's something I'll keep an eye on. As the viewer who brought it up said, more testing is needed. But I want to share what we *do* know so ppl can make decisions based on the available information :)

    I like Magic Erasers for cleaning AG doll vinyl. It may not work on ink stains, though.
    I understand both the desire to work on our own dolls and the desire for restoration. I restrung my 25 year old Josefina because I could and because I was not going to send her away.
    However, it is nice that the AG doll hospital is an option for replacing individual limbs, the torso, the whole body with limbs and/or the head. Whole dolls can be replaced by AG if they are still in stock in their hospital. They also will work on stain removal and general cleaning if you don’t want to lose any part of your beloved companion doll.

      Yes, limb replacement at the AG Doll Care Center (new name, I guess) is a good option. Definitely more expensive and sometimes won't be a color match to the head. And not all the heads are available. So it's not a perfect solution. And I love my Magic Erasers but they are no match for permanent markers or many highlighters. Definitely read the docs linked in the description and keep an eye out for more information in the future (from the scientific community). I don't want anyone to panic - we're likely all just fine - but I do think the responsible, err-on-the-side-of-caution decision for me is to stop using BPO altogether.

    Ugh, I don’t know what to think. I’m living dangerously right now and getting a small pink stain off a Mia doll right now using Oxy. Oxy has been the best for dolls…and in the past I’ve even used it on my skin. I’ve had some success with using Remove Zit by Twin Pines of Maine (specializes in doll repair), but it’s a pain because it can dent the vinyl if left on too long and also leaves a sticky residue (they sell another product to take off the sticky residue). Oxy saves me a lot of trouble…but it may be worth discontinuing it. I may go ahead and toss what I have after this last treatment.

    • @agtakesover

    • @agtakesover
      @agtakesover  5 місяців тому +1

      All of that is true. It also appears that in other instances where the same lab has done similar studies (on other products) they have resulted in the FDA issuing a recall. So it will be interesting to follow. I've included four links in the video description so people can read up and make decisions based on the information we *do* have. My pinned post, the description, and comments from dermatologist and subscriber Dr. Newsom might be helpful to people who watch the video, but without definitive answers (which no one has yet) I'm not telling people what to do or not do - just sharing information.

    We cannot even buy 10% Benzoyl peroxide in Canada. We only have 5% here. But I live near a border town so we often go over to get things we can't get here. Thank goodness I have always used this 10% outside....so we shall see. The 10% is much more effective than the 5%.

      idk - the main person at the lab that did the study holds the patent for stabilizing benzene so there's obviously self-interest at play. But also in all the cases where that lab has found benzene issues in other products, it's apparently resulted in a recall. The links in the description are helpful, but the info isn't conclusive yet.
