  • Making nails is a great project for a new blacksmith. In this video we look at making nails our of 1/4 square stock using a nail header we forged in the previous video.

Back in the day how many young kids earned their keep with the blacksmith banging out simple nails!

They really are a great practice item with a surprising number of skills involved in making them.

Does it matter what type of steel you use for nailmaking?
A complete newbie over here! Loved your video!

I normally use 1/4 square mild steel.
Higher carbon could be used for a stronger nail, but it's not really needed.
