- So I recently came across what could end up being the best gel pens for coloring-the Pentel Sparkle Pop metallic gel pens. I had previously tried, and loved, their Milky Pop gel pens but was completely surprised at just how much I would love the Sparkle Pops. They really are my new favorite gel pens!
Watch my gel pen review to see why I love these so much. I had such a fun time swatching, doodling and coloring with these in my favorite sketchbook-Sketch Bliss. The Sparkle Pops are so much fun because the color changes based on whether you're coloring on white or black. And not only are they one of the best metallic gel pens on the market, they also have glitter in them as well so the colors just shine.

I agree these are awesome pens i have had them for awhile now i got mine at my local office supply store months ago but then hobby lobby just had a bunch on clearance so everyone was buying em all up!

My favorite sparkly pens are......Copic Spica Glitter Pens. Super sparkly! They have micro-glass flakes for maximum sparkle. They have a fine tip and the ink lasts forever. They are acid-free and archival. There are 24 colors. You can find them or ar order them at Blick and other places. They never skip or leak or dry out. Always perform beautifully Another favorite is Posca Glitter Pens. They last a long time and they really glitter. Perform beautifully, never had a problem. 8 beautiful colors. Lightfast and acid-free. Wink of Stella is another favorite. And lastly, still a favorite is Gelly Roll Stardust Glitter Gel Pens. I have used all four brands in coloring books and they all work great. I think these four are the very best on the market! I did purchase the Pentel Sparkle Pop. They do have pretty colors. Thank you so much for your incredible videos and inspiration! A few months ago I had a bad fall and pretty much crushed the wrist, a couple of arm bones and a few other bones in my dominant hand (of course). Naturally that made it pretty much impossible to do anything with the right hand/arm/wrist so in a serious art deprived state, I discovered your videos. Using YOU as my inspiration while waiting till the various surgeries and bones healed, I kept pushing myself to learn how to use my right hand again while "visiting" with you online. So today, following yet another visit with my hand surgeon I was in a snarky mood because my husband had to return to work and didn't have time to take me to the local arts and crafts store so I plopped down at my desk and decided if I couldn't get the gel pens I had my heart set upon, I could at least visit with you. How about that? The first one of your videos I watched today was on gel ink pens (the Pentel line) and it totally changed my mind as to the brand of gel pen I was going to buy today. So there you go - not only have you given me incentive to get my fore paw to work some again but you've saved me the heartache of buying a huge thing of gel pens that I may not have enjoyed as much as the Pentels you demonstrated today! Thank you, hugs and kisses and give great belly rubs to your precious furred artist in residence.

Yes - *Pentel Sparkle Pop Gel Pens* are the same thing as the *Pentel Hybrid Dual Metallic Gel Pens* . It depends on what country you're in.
Oh my gosh. I bought those pens and had know idea that they changed color on black paper. I guess that is what I get for not reading the package better. I love them even more now.

It is so comforting seeing another find SOOOOOOOO MUCH AMAZINGLY SATISFACTION in the experience of gel pens. I have had the obsession in gel pens for over 20 yrs. and have lost the desire after losing my Dearest Daddy in the whole world to cancer 8 yrs ago as of yesterday. I've been on UA-cam lately to attempt to spark something inside to get me going in the Great Adventure of life once again. I have 3 BEAUTIFUL GIFTS from God and 5 amazing Grandbabies that I want to have so much fun with once again.

Hi! Do you know of a way to make a gel pen, eg pastel blue, go more fluro/neon/brighter/more vivid? Without darkening it? Cos I do have a few neon blues but they’re quite ocean colour at the very lightest?
Would adding white gel pen and blending it help?
I have a tip that I do that you probably already know anyway and may not be that useful but here it is: with gel pens that can be a bit constipated/scratchy, I put them in you know those cubes with holes in the top for putting the current pens you’re working with handy and all in one place? I put the uncooperative gel pen in upside down (on its nib/tip) for about 5-10 minutes before I use it and I notice the ink moves down a lot and has a way better ink flow after doing that. Just don’t forget and leave them upside down all night cos some of them will have all the ink run out out of the pen and there’s a big pool of ink in the bottom of the cube and inside the pen tip. A lot don’t do that but some have when I’ve put them in a vertical container upside down.
But yes, is there any trick you can use to make a normal colour more vivid/fluro/bright by blending with another colour of pen or... having a base of a different colour or... anything you’ve come across? Luv from Australia 🇦🇺

I just got my Sparkle Pops and I LOVE THEM. I love the two different 'blues' with the green and purple on black.
Also, the black on white looks more like a black cherry.

That's SO true! In the old days, you had to go by word of mouth.
This channel is VERY helpful in saving money by being able to see what pens do what you want them to do before buying them!
This may be why we're seeing the quality of especially kids' art products getting far better, but across the board, products generally getting better.
Buying the "least expensive" products often leads to spending far more & wasting time being frustrated.
These new Sparkle Pop Glitter Pens look incredible! I like working on black with metallics and these look like they may take the spot as my new favorites!

I think these are the same pens that were in the March Scrawlr Box, but they called them something else. That black is extra neat.
I don't have any Pentel at all. I bought a set of cheap ones on Amazon. They are not near what these are, of course. Have to save money for these. Wow these are really top notch though. Never knew you could blend them. Learn something new every time I watch you.

I love the spectrum noir sparkle pens and the wink of stellar (glittery) or wink of luna (metallic)
WoW. Ok. I’m buying these. Was looking for a review on the Slicci Pentel Metallic pens but saw these. Going to have to go to Pentel’s website and check out all they have available. Thanks. So far I only have the Sakura Stardust glitter pens. It’s funny because the “clear” looks the best on black.

These are available in the UK but I believe they are branded as Hybrid Dual Metallics rather than Sparkle Pop. But the effect is very much the same and the wow factor is still as incredible!!!

Yes, actually I would like 2 know more about that Marker Bag. Earlier 2day, I was looking 4 "something" that might fit both my makers as well as my pencils.
I found these pens at Michaels and fell in love. They do sell them as singles, I did not see any sets. I did find that the more I colored with them the more true they are to their colors. My black now comes out as Black on light colored paper and red on black. It is really fun to see what they can do. My only problem is I cannot find where to buy single gold pens as Michaels does not have them.
This was very interesting. I didn’t know Pentel made so many colors. I’ve used them for years with black blue & red for writing on hand made cards. You’ve given me so many ideas. It’s cute that Steve likes them so much. My husband has no understanding of any art form but is supportive & compliments me on everything I do. I love colored pens markers & colored pencils too as well as mixed media of all kinds. I spend way too much money on this stuff but it makes my heart happy Jewell

I'm in the EU and I've seen similar pens to those. They are also made by Pentel but they look different and they're called Dual Metallic. I wonder if it's the same thing, just marketed differently.

I love love love these pens...I wish they'd make a set of sparkle pens with a larger color selection even if it was just the basic colors. I love how the sparkle is actually colored itself and not just silver mixed in a colored ink. Have you found anything comparable to the sparkle pops/dual hybrids?
Sparkle Pops are my favorite. They have a lot of ink too. They don't run out of ink as fast as thin gel pens. I am looking forward to the Solar Pop video, they are the only pentel ones I don't have yet.

I see why you was using very satisfying. I brought some sparkle pop and Milky pop I think I have found a new love. They are to die for the sparkle pop glides like butter. Was so glad that they had the 4 pack for $3.00 at office depot I might go back and buy a couple more pack before the sale ends.

Looking at it on the screen, one thing I don't care for is how the color of the pen is so different than the color on the page. The purple for example doesn't look anything like that pretty lavender pen on either black or white paper.
I have the sparkle pop pens and they are amaaaaaaaazing! The sparkle in them blow all my other glitter gel pens out of the water and they never do that annoying thing gel pens do when there’s a bubble in the ink barrel. Super smooth! I really hope more colors become available someday.
These are the same as the Pentel hybrid metallic and they are fabulous. I did notice that they did the same thing to my black paper. I have a mixed media sketchbook for swatches and they didn't do that to the mixed media but they pilled up the cheap black sketchbook I have. Not sure why. And they didn't pill up everywhere just in areas I have gone over several times. I am so glad that you like them they are awesome. I would be curious to see how they would work with some of your other blending techniques too!!!!

That sounds like a sizing issue. I would try a different paper. Mixed media paper should be able to handle grl pens without a problem. If you're really wanting yo make thst book work, you might try using a clear or black gesso over the pages.
I'm curious which mixed media book are you using??? It sounds like a cheap paper, but might be something rlse going on there. Does it handle say a metallic watercolor ok? Acrylic Paint? Mediums like texture paste?
It would be interesting to find out why it's doing that, especially if the same paper can generally handle other wet supplies ok!
Carol Reid The black paper is cheap sketch paper. The mixed media paper handles these just fine which is my normal white swatching pad. It's Strathmore and not at all bad. I mean it buckles with lots of water but what do you expect? The black pad is just sketch paper. A little thicker than normal. It's so generic that it doesn't even have a name. It is thicker than normal paper but not by much. I am planning to do a mandala using the Pentel Metallica on it with a border out of Jelly roll dimensional pens. They leave a little raised border. I suspect that the pilling might be a result of how wet these pens are. Thanks for the gesso idea.
