    Unless you’ve been there, I don’t think folks realize how absolutely difficult it is to walk to the end of that jetty, especially with all of that equipment. Very impressive.

      Agreed. I used to go out on the incoming tide and fish until it went out enough to walk back in the sand. I’ve gotten nailed a few times by waves halfway across the first leg of that jetty. Never skunked on crabs, though.

      North jetty is more treacherous than South jetty by far. That beginning part that faces the sea is just waiting to bust your ass on the slightest misstep.

    My dad passed away two years ago. I inherited his fishing equipment. Whenever I go to a lake or to the ocean, I remember him. We did not have the best of relationships, but he taught me how to fish and shared his passion for fishing. That was the one thing we could share. I miss my old man.

    Besides the super-clean and huge rock crabs, I dig the different tones in this video. A lot of the fishing/harvesting videos capture the thrill of the catch. The way you started this video mirrored the way people might start a walk to the pier or jetty point: In the stillness of the morning, with thoughts about the past, a few words exchanged with companions who tagged along on the trip, contemplative in the moment.

    It's like a tune that brings you back to a snippet in time that makes you remember a time in your life. I think that's why fishing is so important to so many people. It reminds you of the time your Grandfather or Dad taught you how to tie that knot... or when he had that one get away... or when you just had that alone time with him or her. Just a whisp of memory that forever will be stored in your own tackle box.

    Hey matt! That was a great video, and i've been a lurker viewer for a bit now, and i gotta say, your videos are just a big chill vibe. I did wanna comment however, i'm not sure what you did with all that butter after the boil, so hopefully you didnt toss it. If so, next time (if you use 2 pounds of butter like that again, lol) you can save that butter boil and let it cool to make a compound butter. Then use that crabby, buttery, and well seasoned compound butter on some dishes, if not just to elevate a toast ~

    • @dohpe-
      @dohpe- Рік тому +2

      Once you heat the butter that high, the solids separate and it can no longer be cooled into a correct compound butter, but you can utilize it again to cook or to boost a sauce that you are making.

    We call the lady fingers dead men on crabs on the east coast. I prefer to clean what you call the crabs butter cleaned out. I visited a crab place in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. I asked for the crabs live before cooking them the staff had no idea how to clean them people around me were listening and fascinated when they brought my cooked crabs out every one who saw n heard me wanted to do their crabs the same way. I went back a month later turned out a bunch of folks had started requesting their crabs like that so for a free meal I went in back and taught the prep folks how to do it properly.
    Everytime I went there they gave me free meal for almost a year. I moved back to Outerbanks of NC . Interesting lil story thought I would share. Love your channel everytime a new one pops up I am glued to it!!!
