This was one of DW's best documentaries show the struggles of different individuals from different parts of the world. Unfortunately inequality is a bitter pill to swallow and will always be there and has been there even in the past. The gentleman, Pierre is an orator and knows what he is talking about, I wish all the best for him. My country Kenya indeed has inequality and always has been there. I just pray our government could come up with a system to rehabilitate people who leave in the streets as well as those in informal settlements and train them with skills that can sustain them for the rest of their lives. Education is not enough to help someone through life..they need people skills as well. By doing that the economy gradually grows as youth unemployment. Lastly, Health care is also another issue.

I came to the US from a poor country, with no money, no contacts, no knowledge of my way around here and 15 years later I'm making a good living for myself, realizing my dreams. Inequality is a reality anywhere you go and there will always be the rich and the poor, that's how it is. The difference between the have and the have nots in the developed countries is a matter of freeing yourself of your negative state of mind and laziness. Have a plan, work hard and smart and you'll make it. It bothers me when I see Americans complaining about inequality while living in the most prosperous nation in History. If you can't make it here, you can't make it anywhere.

It’s heartbreaking to see that man holding a chicken bone and eating it after someone has already eaten it. While most people think it’s disgusting and you can get sick eating someone else’s germs, for him it’s about surviving.
Then both Lazarus and the rich man died... (fast forward), Then the rich man told Abraham to tell Lazarus to go into the earth and warn his brothers. (Who were obviously rich) (.on other stories), Jesus says, "it will be harder for the rich to enter heaven." Why did He say that? Well, as is required in the Kingdom of heaven, people need to share wealth with the poor and help the needy, but, billionaires and millionaires are busy gathering up that wealth for themselves and their families, overlooking Lazarus on the street daily. Lazarus looks dirty and beat up. They go to church and praise the Lord yet overlook people who need their help because they think they are better than the next person in tattered clothes. They have been taught by their father, the great deceiver, that other people are just lazy and need to work for their own, the same deceiver who put that spirit of laziness on the other person. They have been taught that they need to step on people to get what they want in life. Their wants fade when they die though. Because contentment never comes. Same devil who makes the poor man poor so he can curse God, also makes the rich arrogant so they wont help those in need.
The Bible may not say share the wealth in those exact words but it says to love your neighbor and allowing your neighbor to suffer when you can help them isn't very loving! It says if you don't love your brother who you have seen, how can you love God, whom you haven't seen! And it also says that it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven! It also says that the love of money is the root of all evil!

Damien Holland How about NOT having children that you can’t feed and clothe properly??

Esther S it's a shame anyone ends up homeless.
I'm no longer homeless Ester, nor was I when I helped in this documentary. I was simply relaying the facts about when I was homeless. My last job was in a music academy that I left because I was profoundly unhappy. I'd never experienced such depression before, and I felt that my mental health was more important than that job. I'm glad to hear from a real human being Ester, and my prayer's and hope are for you, and your family. May the Lord himself remember you, your friend Pierre.

There is a legend that when you get hooked on DW documentaries, then you can't miss any upload. Hands down you guys are the best documentary team on the entire planet right now. And to my fellow citizens of the earth, you can't have both freedom and equality, they are mutually exclusive.

The black man from NY is well spoken, very articulate.
Juneann Irene he is wrong though. You NEED inequality to encourage people to better themselves. Also people are not inherently equal at ALL nor would they end up equal if given the same opportunities.

mrblackalchemist wow...so imagine those born into riches that'll probably never go poor vs those born into poverty fighting for the same chances. Uphill swimming only caters for only a few resilient people thus nullify the whole point of this documentary
What else is a black man supposed to sound like ? You may not know it but that’s an ignorant statement.
The black man had a name first of all and second because of who he is and what he looks like he can't be well spoken and articulate naturally? I can tell from not even meeting you are aren't articulate and well spoken at all.

$75 from 4hrs of work a day recycling plastic bottles in a small cart like that over 30 days means he makes $2250.00 by the end of the month.. great stuff..
compared to $10 an hour 8-12 hours a day and $80-$120 a day
$2250 for $1230 rent makes you have $1030 the cost of meals for a day is $36 cost of meals for a month $1080 that makes -$70. to get a hotel every night for 30 days $3600. to get food 2 times a day for 30 days $720.

American Dream is alive and well and thriving the majority of people that are achieving it nowadays are from other countries. I'm in the truck driving industry and I see so many success stories like yours. God Bless America

I am always amazed at the amount of electricity that is wasted in advertising in places such as New York City, Las Vegas and other places similar. We are so wasteful; we really are. Do we have the right to be wasteful; morally, no.
The Kenyan story is so inspiring.
I would love to sit down with that man from Brooklyn. He seems like a wise humble person
(Who were obviously rich)
(.on other stories), Jesus says, "it will be harder for the rich to enter heaven." Why did He say that?
Umm...The Bible does not say to share wealth, period.
actually it says something similar.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_and_the_rich_young_man
BS when you die it's over !
