This was performed @ JALC and I was working this show (in the lobby of the theatre) and you could hear her belting throughout the whole place! It was incredible!!!
This was great. If anyone ever doubted this American Idol winner they would have to shut it now. This is the show stopper of the musical. It needed a power voice. Carrie brought it. And to sing with male powervoice Patrick Wilson and hold her own, while sick. Big Props for Ms. Underwood.
This is one of the better versions of this that I've heard. Carrie doesn't quite have the same emotional depth that Greene seems to put into it but Carrie sure has the vocal power! And Patrick Wilson is just amazing - he sings this beautifully and although I agree with tillyboos that Patrick is too sexy to play Seymour I did always have a soft spot for Rick Moranis in the role and always found him cute so I'd suspend disbelief for Patrick in the role also hehe
I really really enjoyed this! Ellen Greene's my favorite Audrey, and Hunter Foster is my favorite Seymour (though I have a big soft spot for Rick Moranis), but these two did great. I LOOOOOOOOVE Patrick Wilson's voice (please come back to Broadway!), and Carrie did fabulous too! Belt it, girl!
Carrie and Patrick sang Suddenly Seymour at the Nov 2005 special show called Broadway Meets Country - the Country Music Association Awards were in New York City that year
@RFouts0 My thoughts exactly! Greene has such a rare texture to her voice which is very difficult to duplicate. Underwood is the closest I've heard yet to come ANYWHERE close to the power and dynamics of Greene's performance. I'm glad they tackled this one! Having performed it myself, I KNOW how tricky it is, and how much to be admired those who nail it truly are! Great cover.
They are not trying to duplicate the original song, they are covering it. So comparing it to ANY other performance is DUMB. I for one am not a singer, but these two made this song sound amazing. All of you other people who are making negative comments on this video are probably wannabe singers or "know it all" types. Get over yourself and enjoy the music for what it is. This is a beautiful recording of an amazing song. I would like each one of you negative peeps to get up there and try this!
I love the way Carrie portrayed this character. Audrey (the character singing this) has been passive her whole life, and in this song she is finally coming out and standing up. So belting this song and being powerful, was the better way to go in my opinion.
Carrie Underwood is the only one I've heard singing this that even comes close to Ellen Greene. Patrick Wilson, well, I've loved his voice ever since I heard him sing in "Phantom of the Opera". Kudos to both of these talented singers!
Its a nice version and she sounds better then many other female vocalists on here doing this great tune : but let's face it , nobody comes close to Ellen Greene's original version , with Ellen you feel her Heart & Soul in the performance , whenever she belts it on TV or anywhere !
This is not a country song and I don't know why Carrie Underwood is singing it like one. Patrick Wilson on the other hand, dominates and still manages to capture the Seymour character in his singing. I will admit that Carrie has a great belt.
@AliKey I already acknowledged that in a previous comment before you start saying stuff like that check on the fact that right above you there was a comment that apologized for the fact that I made a mistake in saying she hadn't won
this is the second best version of this song i have ever heard. the best is the original Broadway version... yes im a nerd but Carrie did and amazing job here, i didnt like Ellen that much and Carrie is an amazing singer
If what Ellen Greene did in the cast recording was what it was meant to be, then I think it's totally ok for Carrie to belt out the whole song. It sounded great to me.
@lynchy25252 Uh, she hit all of the notes. The highest in this is just a belted C#. Carrie has belted a G, which is almost half an octave higher. Try again.
no i dont mean she didn t take it over the top she did take it there wat im saying is that i dont feel the emotional attachment that is supposed to go wit this song u dont feel it
Patrick is maybe too good lucking and not geeky enough for Seymour but Carrie is perfect for Audrey. Her country sound is great for the character and the accent the Audrey has. On a purely vocal aspect they are perfect and do the song justice. Are you right? NEVER - Harsh? Maybe. True? You better believe it.
Patrick Wilson can sing the f***k out of this.....so can she. That was damn good! Patrick's too sexy to play Seymour though. However, I didn't even know he was a singer until I saw him in Phantom Of The Opera -- I had no clue.
and at 15 years of age Dared to Move you really think people will take your opinion seriously ??- Carrie's great singing this and all the Broadway stars and critics who were there agreed that Carrie was outstanding
Of course Ellen only sang this night after night and Carrie learned this song a week before this performance not having heard it before and they prob only had a few rehearsals - Carrie was in NYC for the CMA Awards that year
you know whats even funny tho. Carrie Underwood didnt win but no one cares that she didn't even tho shes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy better than whoever did win. She's amazing.
lol Yeah, I'm not a fan of it either -- they slowed it down or something, right? Also Ellen Greene's vocals are kind of too worked over in the movie version. The original cast recording is much better.
The problem with having people with great opera type voices sing this song is that they forget to stay in character. You don't hear any nerd at all in Patrick Wilson and Carrie just gets a little of the abused woman in her voice. This sounds nice but it doesn't convey the story of Little Shop of Horrors.
This is true, and it is a strange song for Wilson to be singing. Not because he can't do it, we just listened to it and he did a good job. It's just that he is like the opposite of Seymour lol.
this is why carrie should do broadway this is soo amazing....of course no one can beat ellen and kerry with this song but she deff is in 3rd to them please go to bway carrie
I agree completely. I think Carrie is talented, but there's absolutely NO build here...it's just her belting the entire time. Patrick sounded great but I barely heard him through most of it!!!
this is the one cover i've heard when the female voice is extremely close to ellen greene's voice.... maybe if adam pascal and carrie underwood sang it, that would be a good combo. don't get me wrong, mandy moore's awesome but maybe not for this song.
Emotion? Erm, yeah. This is a satire. This character is singing this to a guy that just killed her satist, dentist boyfrien and fed him to an alien plant! Hello! McFly! If you mean she didn't take it over the top and make it satirical then yeah, okay, but she's not an actress either. You guys crack me up. Emotion. LOL
no guys,
she is NOT shouting.
she's belting it out, and rocking at it.
i love this version.
its amazing that people like to sing this song.
Carrie has great soul in her voice for a country artist, I love it!
Patrick Wilson is the vocal equivalent of a little black dress - he can sing ANYTHING and make it sound fabulous.
whoa Carrie!
Major belting!
Both of them are great!
This was performed @ JALC and I was working this show (in the lobby of the theatre) and you could hear her belting throughout the whole place! It was incredible!!!
Carrie Underwood voice is so versatile.
Carrie sings the HECK out of this. You go girl.
wow..carrie was surprisingly good. I've always loved Patrick, but I wasn't sure about her singing this song, but she rocked it.
Yay! Patrick Wilson! *listens at high volume*
*Carrie starts singing * AHHHH!!! SO LOUD!
My God, i love Carrie Underwood. She sang this so well
now this is carrie!!!! thanks for this version!!
This was great. If anyone ever doubted this American Idol winner they would have to shut it now. This is the show stopper of the musical. It needed a power voice. Carrie brought it. And to sing with male powervoice Patrick Wilson and hold her own, while sick. Big Props for Ms. Underwood.
Carrie knocked it out of the park. I liked how she sounded similar to Ellen Greene.
Happy New Year everyone!
i love how carrie totally belts it out!!! love it!! :)
They NEED to record!!!!!!
Carrie and Patrick sang Suddenly Seymour at the Nov 2005 special show called Broadway Meets Country - the Country Music Association Awards were in New York City that year
wow thanks for this! you're right the other versions are all low and weird. this actually sounds like them
Amazing! That girl has got some range!
Carrie nailed this.
Thanks for posting the real audio! I like Carrie on this....
Thanks for fixin this!! AWESOME!!!
@RFouts0
My thoughts exactly!
Mmm...Patrick Wilson. He's so amazing. And very handsome as well.
WOW! That was amazing on both parts.
i loooovvvveeeee carrie!!!!!!!! and they are amazing together. they need to do more duets.
WOW!!! they both sound amazing!!! =D
I love the way Carrie portrayed this character. Audrey (the character singing this) has been passive her whole life, and in this song she is finally coming out and standing up. So belting this song and being powerful, was the better way to go in my opinion.
I absolutely agree!
I looove rent and phantom, but patrick totally owned this!
WOW!
they were so good.
Patrick was good in Phantom as well,
and I love Carrie.
YAY finally someone not singing it oin Broadway, doing this song some justice !!!!!!!!!
This might be the most random pairing in all of bra'dway
wow...that was awesome
this is amazing!!!
carrie is belting the shit out of this. love it
WOW! Carrie absolutely crushes this song! Mandy Moores cover of this song doesn't even come close!
Carrie Underwood is the only one I've heard singing this that even comes close to Ellen Greene. Patrick Wilson, well, I've loved his voice ever since I heard him sing in "Phantom of the Opera". Kudos to both of these talented singers!

she's gorgeous, as always.
@lindblom I saw her on Heroes as Syler's mother
Exactly!
im impressed sang it GIRL!
when i saw that carrie underwood was going to sing this, i rolled my eyes. but seriously, she's the PERFECT audrey.
Say what you want, but Carrie can sing just about anything.
Belt it out there Carrie!!! And as always go Patrick GO!
wow this is good!
Thank you Carrie for showing Mandy Moore how it was supposed to sound.
she does belt the whole time, but i still think she sounds good 'cause she added her own touch to it..
and patrick is just amazing :)
Yes, it is. That is Mr. Patrick Wilson.
@Crowster12781 and he was roul in phantom of the opera. and the dad in insidious lol
This is not a country song and I don't know why Carrie Underwood is singing it like one.
Patrick Wilson on the other hand, dominates and still manages to capture the Seymour character in his singing.
I will admit that Carrie has a great belt.
Is this that guy from Hard Candy and the Phantom of the Opera???
Where is this song performed at? Because the recording of this song sounds like it was performed at a tony awards or something.
these 2 are the perfect leads for this musical! carrie is the perfect audrey...she simply puts mandy and the previous audreys to shame!
Not to be rude, but I'm almost 98% certain it says Broadway Meets Country on that sign behind them.
Just a heads up.
Sorry if you've answer this one HUNDRED times, but what is this from? Not the song. I know it's from Little Shop. Why did Patrick and Carrie sing it?
where is this from?
Obviously from LSoH but when did THEY sing it?
@AliKey I already acknowledged that in a previous comment before you start saying stuff like that check on the fact that right above you there was a comment that apologized for the fact that I made a mistake in saying she hadn't won
this is the second best version of this song i have ever heard. the best is the original Broadway version... yes im a nerd but Carrie did and amazing job here, i didnt like Ellen that much and Carrie is an amazing singer
If what Ellen Greene did in the cast recording was what it was meant to be, then I think it's totally ok for Carrie to belt out the whole song. It sounded great to me.
I love to sing a duet with Patrick Wilson
One of my favorites from Carrie! She nailed that! But I feel bad for Patrick and the back ups...Carrie dominated them!
i agree that there is no build in carrie's voice.
but because they weren't acting it out, it worked ok.
she still has an amazing voice.
@quickydmagicmexi actually, she did win
This versions sooo good.
but i do think it's a bit showy. i'd of much preferred it without the backing singers at the end.
omg, she is the perfect audrey!
Only when no one's watching.
Insert canned laughter.
@lynchy25252 Uh, she hit all of the notes. The highest in this is just a belted C#. Carrie has belted a G, which is almost half an octave higher. Try again.
Ha ha ha ha ha - she puts in all of Ellen Green's vocal inflections!
no i dont mean she didn t take it over the top she did take it there wat im saying is that i dont feel the emotional attachment that is supposed to go wit this song u dont feel it
Technically, perhaps. If even. But the quality of the emotion that Ellen Greene's performance elicits is untouchable.
Gerard is his make but he is also known as Gerry
FEED ME!!
agreed
Patrick is maybe too good lucking and not geeky enough for Seymour but Carrie is perfect for Audrey. Her country sound is great for the character and the accent the Audrey has. On a purely vocal aspect they are perfect and do the song justice. Are you right? NEVER - Harsh? Maybe. True? You better believe it.

Carrie sounds awesome singing broadway. :)
Of course Ellen only sang this night after night and Carrie learned this song a week before this performance not having heard it before and they prob only had a few rehearsals - Carrie was in NYC for the CMA Awards that year
You're right. Carrie's got a great country voice, but the woman should steer clear of Broadway (unless it's Annie, Get Your Gun).
they look like an awesome couple
you know whats even funny tho. Carrie Underwood didnt win but no one cares that she didn't even tho shes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy better than whoever did win. She's amazing.
Why can't I figure out what I've seen him in...
OH SHIT! Is that Nite Owl from Watchmen?! Well I will be damned...
whoa, nite owl can sing =D
Carrie is AMAZING at thie song! Totally trumps mandy moore! Patrick's pretty good too.
WOW
man, carrie can sing :) haha
Patrick is amazing also.
lol Yeah, I'm not a fan of it either -- they slowed it down or something, right? Also Ellen Greene's vocals are kind of too worked over in the movie version. The original cast recording is much better.

Oh ,idk.... Pat is the Nerd with the Macho hidden in his exterior
this is why carrie should do broadway this is soo amazing....of course no one can beat ellen and kerry with this song but she deff is in 3rd to them please go to bway carrie
7 people were suddenly eaten by audrey 2.
I agree completely. I think Carrie is talented, but there's absolutely NO build here...it's just her belting the entire time. Patrick sounded great but I barely heard him through most of it!!!

Carrie sang this song like how she sings all her songs. Not perfect but not bad
Emotion? Erm, yeah. This is a satire. This character is singing this to a guy that just killed her satist, dentist boyfrien and fed him to an alien plant! Hello! McFly! If you mean she didn't take it over the top and make it satirical then yeah, okay, but she's not an actress either. You guys crack me up. Emotion. LOL
I like that Carrie sings it like the original cast recording. I hate the version in the movie! Well, hate is a strong word... I'm not a fan or it.
Yes,we know you can sing Carrie. She should have been singing WITH Patric not over him.
good but knowone can sing butter than ellene green wnd rick mores
