48 How I Built My DIY Rock Tongs

The two rock tongs that I really liked were the EZ Step Clamp @greatnorthhardscape591
and the Stone Grab @MQUIP . I picked aspects from both, and came up with these rock tongs. These are my second version, and I am very happy with their strength, performance , and weight.
The first pair I built were larger and had no gussets to add strength to the joint. I do like to tinker, so at some point I would like to build a set using flat bar as the building material, probably 3/8 or 1/2 inches thick.

That will move a Leverite anywhere! Well done, Ben! I'm no welder either but when I weld something thin, I use 6013 rods. They are considered a "beginner Rod" and are very forgiving although not as clean a finish as higher end rods like 7018, etc.
