  • Jack and Mark discuss their latest findings on tipping golf shafts.
Now that they have tipped every golf shaft in their fitting matrix in 0.25" increments and measured their playing characteristics with S3 Technology after every cut... they know more than anyone about how (and when) to tip a golf shaft!

I'm a fitter for Club Champion and Man I love this information. I wish we had this info and the info from your Ventus video for every single shaft on the market. It would give me so much more firepower in fittings to really dial someone in. I've always loved the technical side of shafts. Subscribing for sure and can't wait to see more like this.

Would love to see you guys post some auto flex fitting videos and explain the swing weights needed on them and how you get there.

Obviously this will get captured into the fitting software, but would have loved to see a bit more discussion on the breakover points for certain shafts where performance seems to change. Particularly with the ventus shafts it seems that Mark's hypothesis about removing some of the stiffer tip material yields an "unexpected" effect on launch angle, but only when you get past a quarter inch. Might be an interesting comparison against the manufacturer's stated specs or recommendations to fitters.

I've got a Hazardous Smoke RDX Blue shaft for my driver and 3-wood. I don't want them to become any stiffer. Should I just butt trim only? Great information. Thank you.

I have a question. I have an in between golf swing on the driver (swing speed). I swing 109mph. I guess thats between a stiff and extra stiff flex.. I have always just stuck with the stiff. Would tipping it .5 inches make a stiff a stiff.5 (a tweener stiffness) or would it not work that way?

Hi, yes tipping a golf shaft can stiffen it (in most cases), but at 109mph generally you would be better off with an X flex. Be sure to understand all the parameters of the shaft rather than just buying any X flex. Weight, profile and torque will all play a part in it working for you.
Also, do not just tip the shaft you have unless you are also wanting it 0.5" shorter. Have someone professional build you a driver that is balanced during the build.
