I don't know if it's intentional but I think it is and it's a really nice detail. The song doesn't end with the goodbye Dan said, instead he keeps talking over it. Definitely feels to me like the struggle to pull away from the person you love(d), when you know you have to leave, you want to leave them, but you just want to stay so so badly even if it hurts so you keep talking in-between goodbyes
