Frederick and Frederika were some of the first patterns that caught my eye when I started cross stitching again a few years ago. There's something about the final step of adding the date of Carolyn's and my mother's birth year that makes Carolyn's finish so special. I have been enjoying watching your Smith Sampler grow too, Sarah! We have a few overlaps of things we are working on. Red Deer Sampler, too. Although I may restart mine on a smaller count... When I was at the Attic, Jean mentioned to me that she could set me up with the correct tools (stronger readers I believe maybe a combination readers/stand magnifier) that would help with stitching on those smaller count linens. I died a thousand deaths over the big bad Vierlande as well and bought it. Jacob is just knocking it out of the park lately, they were all lovely but there was something truly spectacular about the original, gigantic one. And love that you've gotten the tiny stitching bug!!! It truly is addictive, and please do weigh in on the 53/63 once you've had a chance to try it. I still can't put my finger on the why, but you might be able to...

Always love your videos, even though I rarely comment (watching on the TV just isn't conducive to that!) I've started collecting snippets of poetry, song lyrics etc with the idea that one or more may end up in a stitch some day. One of my current favourites, which I think fits quite well with some that you mentioned, is this: "To be great, be whole: don't exaggerate or leave out any part of you. Be complete in each thing. Put all you are into the least of your acts. So too in each lake, with its lofty life, the whole moon shines." by Fernando Passoa (translated by Richard Zenith). Depending on the design it goes in I may or may not include the final line - it works either way.

I've been thinking a lot about what I would put on a sampler because I love reproduction samplers but I'm not a big fan of verses. If I'm doing a faithful reproduction, I'll try to find a quote or a poem from the same era. I keep lyrics/quotes in my stitching notebook for original designs... I love "Immerse yourself in love" by Radiohead, or "Breathe, breathe in the air, don't be afraid to care" by Pink Floyd. There is "Nothing lasts for long'" by Joni Mitchell that I already have tattooed on my arm :)

Hi Lisa -- The magazine is an older one from 2013. It's called the Der Reggeboge and is the Journal of the Pennsylvania German Society. It's Volume 47 2013 Number 2. I bought it at the Swenkfelder Library book store. They might still have a couple of copies left, worth a call. Good Luck! -Carolyn
