It has a traditional bell shape. I can see why they warned me it would break, the cymbal is so heavy, without the spring there isn't much recoil when you hit it.

Wuhan does make a 27" china, but you can a no-name one that's just as good for about $160 after shipping from steve weiss music.com, that's where I bought mine. Yeah for awhile I used it the traditional way because the company had warned me playing the 27" china with the bell facing down would eventually break it because of the cymbal's massive size and weight but it's held up fine so far.
