I was absolutely moved by Brett's playing. I was peacefully working on my homework when I heard this:

In the start Brett was nervous, you could see. He made a couple small mistakes. But then going into the 2nd and 3rd movement, he owned the piece !

    • @perseus31

Definitely. In the first movement he even tried to control vibratos tightly so you can clearly hear how stressful his playing is at first.

Brett, I am also Chinese and a lot older than you. I am from the f’ou t’song era. You have no idea how proud I am seeing you doing what you are doing. I remember being told in the 1960’s by western artist and professors, you Chinese cannot understand “our music” I did not listen of course but somebody with less self confidence would have been discouraged. Thank you. There is a message for our younger generation, we have been doing it for a few thousand years and just took a break for a century and we are back. Your second movement is quite exquisite. I am probably the oldest subscriber to your channel.

This has become one of my favorite performances of this timeless piece. I'm not a musician or a purist looing for perfection. I'm a simple plebeian who enjoys raw authenticity (not to say that other performance are necessarily lacking in that regard), but following Brett on Two Set seemed to provide a connection to the artist that I haven't experienced with any other artists.

Does anyone here know WHO was the *sound engineer* for this concert?!
I’d travel the world just to pay my respects to them!
Not to mention the entire crew behind the scenes and especially Charmaine Teo* the “cameras Maestro”. Everything was brought to perfection!
    * Charmaine Teo, winner of the President’s Young Performer Concert, was acclaimed by The Straits Times for her “nimble fingers and consummate musicianship” following her solo debut with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Currently, she serves as a harp lecturer for diploma and degree students at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.

The opening of the concerto is the most difficult passage in the whole piece. You have to play quiet, but you are playing entirely on the E string which can tend to sound overly bright and sharp. You have to slur everything, but shift from 2nd position to 7th and back again and somehow make it all connect. And just the fact that you have those octaves coming up next to keep in tune is nerve wracking.
