The narration of the repair was top-notch. Also, it was really helpful that you explained *why* ancient fuel pumps have problems with modern fuel.

If your serious about buying a Morris Minor as a daily driver bear in mind that the chassis components (Nuffield) are held together by BSF nuts and bolts whereas the engines and transmissions on the OHV Minors are of Austin origin and use American sizes (UNF) which means you'll need two sets of spanners and socket, A/F, (Across Flats) for the Unified nuts and bolts and BSW/BSF spanners for the BSF nuts and bolts. If you can't find new the hit the autojumbles!

That is a very old fuel pump. The 40 plus year old fuel pump in my Jaguar has the clear plastic layer on the fuel side, so hopefully is ok for a few years yet. Having fitted a diode across the points, there is no longer any sparking, so again should last a while. I remember clambering under a mini to wack the fuel pump, much easier on the minor.

Enjoyable and informative vid 👍 there seems to be a touch more production in the making 👍 audio and cinematography are improved 👍 . I’ve followed ‘Project Mildred’ build from the start but nothing has been posted for 9 months (?)... I think he’s taking a break 🤔

Back in the day the upgrade was to fit the mechanical fuel pump off some other BMC/Leyland car, most A series engines (and many other BMC/Leyland vehicles) have one driven off the cam shaft that fits directly to the engine. Modify the fuel pipework to suit & Robert's your Mother's brother, no more messing with fuel pump points.

Very true. I think this guy got a little confused between electrical/electronic and mechanical fuel pumps. If the pump is driven by electricity it is electrical or electronic depending on the internal circuitry, it is NOT mechanical. A mechanical fuel pump is bolted to the side of the engine block and a lever passes through and runs off the camshaft.

My Morris's mechanical fuel pump diaphragm broke recently. I repaired it with a custom diaphragm and it's been working fine for a couple days

Probably the most down to earth most informative “how to” video I’ve seen.
I have no idea about Morris Minor (or any car for that matter) engines, yet I keep trying to fix problems with my 55’, 803cc. Issue with it cutting out when I come to a stop, and believe I spotted the possible cause in a previous video about the distributor thing. Keep these up, it’s always good to learn from a fellow hobbit

For petrol pumps positioned away from the outside weather like inside underneath the bonnet the electronic ones are ok BUT with cars like one of my cars the MGBGT where the pump is underneath outside open to the road weather I don’t recommend the electronic types as any dampness destroys them very rapidly and a replacement part is about £80+ pounds whereas normally you can clean the points but if you have to buy a replacement points set they’re about £15 and very easy to replace , but all the same and nice video

Did they drain the tank when they did all the welding work?

Years ago I purchased a electronic fuel pump for my BMC product. Like you I wanted reliability. However I am now worried that the diaphragm is not going to prove reliable. It may be too old to be compatible with Ethanol (E10) .

Great video of how to swap pump but you made a big error.
The contactless fuel pumps are rubbish. They cant deliver enough fuel. I just threw mine away and fitted a pump with points.
    I've got electronic ignition too.
Ill be chucking that out and going back to points soon.

    • @rosssaabbikes
      @rosssaabbikes Рік тому

@@bernarddegrasse8753 if you get problems with points, it's easy to figure out the problem plus you can static time it without strobe.
Once you get issues and have electronic ignition fitted, you're never really sure what's wrong.
They worked fine in 1950, why change?
