Great lesson! Mark Adams was one of the greatest underrated bassists on the planet and a true original! How he didn't make Bass Player's 100 greatest bassists is unexplainable. RIP, The Hansolor!
I’ve been playing it for years, I have seen it played so many different ways. Being a musician, I guess there must be so much diversity, unless you are playing it from the sheet. Wow!
Well! I Began my journey into playing the Bass about 9 months ago. And boy did I go through the aches and pains, when it came to playing it. With "Just a touch of love" being one of my favorite Slave tracks, I was determined to learn that funky, Mark Adams Bass line. And I can proudly say today, that "I got it" Note for Note. I can also say thanks in partially, to this video. 👍👍
Watching your videos make me miss having a 4 string as my main axe. I started on a 4 sting in the 80s but now I’m surrounded by my 5 strings, when I first switched over I was always thinking about the B string. Now if I pick up a 4 I’m reminding myself you don’t have the B. Keep it brown Bliss.
BEST LESSON EVER!!!!First tune I learned to play on bass was Slaves other hit “Slide” All I ever wanted to do was to be able to play that slide because it sounded so bad ass HAHAHAA😂😂😂I can remember sitting on my front porch on a summer day playing my bass. My next-door neighbors would all come over to see what I was doing. And I would immediately start playing “Slide”. They would all yell play it again ...play it again. I think I’ve played that riff for 10 minutes straight. I was the funk king for a day...Good times... good times 😂😂🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for the video! Just heard this song today and was learning it by ear. The ghost notes were throwing me for a loop, and I should've known that's what they were. Killer tone and bass... what kind of strings were you using here?
I like the way you are playing it. I had the basics but missing a few notes and playing the whole thing with my thumb. Still hard to switch back and forth.
Hey bro I really appreciate you dropping these bass lessons on us as often as you do you're on the Christmas list this year at my house this year! I'll drop you a couple of twenties on the venmo it's not much wish I could do more! Thanks again bro! peace
😊 Ted im sorry man I said some stupid words on the msg I last made about slave song your teaching, I get upset and inpatient because I'm trying to learn specially slave music im a mark adams fan,but your a great teacher I over thought my situation I learned it through u thanks
Hey man, no problem. I truly appreciate and admire your follow up. It takes a real stand up person to do something like that publicly. I’m glad that the video was able to help.
I'm just now discovering your channel. I am a HUGE HUGE SLAVE, AURRA, DEJA, STEVE ARRINGTON fan!!! Do you have a video on ARE YOU SINGLE by AURRA? Also, GIVIN' IT TO YOU by SKYY, HEAVEN OF MY LIFE by CHANGE, and SEARCHING TO FIND THE ONE by UNLIMITED TOUCH?
Hey Ted, when you play a song, for the first timers, can you go real slow and say each note. You go to fast and it’s hard to see the fingering. Thanks “T”
+Seth Amenra YO! Thanks for checking out the video. If you dig this kind of content, please check out the other videos and playlists on the channel. Also, if you’re able and inclined please leave a tip or purchase a product. Peace - 2 fingas!
Thank you for recognizing Mark Adams that Brother was just amazing on the bass and gets left out of the so call bass history experts but if you look at who doing the history you know why.
DAMN! I've been playing this wrong the whole tiiiiime? I'm sort of in the beginner stages, and I thought I had this one bagged, until I saw this video. Smdh
@@TedTalksBass I don't think 36 index was being arrogant by his comment but he's right in a sense you're showing the basics of the bridge and not using your pinky finger on the G string as placed in the song there are 3 videos I know of on YT and Mark is actually showing how it's played one video the band stopped playing and MR. MARK soloed the song for about a minute thanks for your time in help teaching how to play and groove
Not a problem. I always teach as *i* hear and interpret and then encourage people to use that as a launching pad for them to explore the record on their on AND see how they can do it. “Bridge is wrong…” is arrogance but not that I mind. It very well may be “wrong”. If so, I would like to be shown the “right” way :-)
learned it by ear and I figured out the A was played on 5th fret of E instead of open A lol, it made things so much harder than it should ve. It was good practise tho, but thank you for making such video

You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!
That "Trill" is to add flavor to the groove... Mark was Genius!
Thanks Ted,Mark was a BASS GOD and my favorite Funk bassist.
Man you got the tone down to a tee. I was listening to Marks Isolated Bass track and you sound exactly like him. Excellent job as always. 🎸
I’ve been playing it for years, I have seen it played so many different ways. Being a musician, I guess there must be so much diversity, unless you are playing it from the sheet. Wow!
Said pretty much the same damn. I've been playing it differently. And it sounds nice. I'm somewhat confused now.

Finally, someone playing it right. GR8 Job!!!🖤🎸⚘
Love this lesson. That end vamp part always reminded note wise of a bass line on Grover Washington Jrs “Live at the Bijou album.”
This is great. This song was in my head when I woke up so I’m going to work on it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Brother! Great lesson for us Ol’ Funksters! Love it!

I remember reading he was inspired by the bassist of Grand Funk Railroad on the trill Mel Schitner (I hope I spelled it right lol
Impressive

Very Dope clip! But that bridge is way more complicated than a little bit! Still trying to figure it all out.
Thanks. Video is only a reference. I encourage folks to listen
🤘🏾
trill= "the stinger"
This looks hard… Maybe I should start with “Slide” instead of this song.
Nothing is hard unless you say it is ;-) you got this
It's a Vibrato.
Bridge is wrong...
