The amount of preparation and thought that must go into creating an amazing video like this must be immense. Thanks for doing this for us, Jeremy. We’re not worthy.
I really like how all of your cables are bundled into a harness and we all can see all of your impressive rack equipment. Compared to others doing similar work, I appreciate all of that neatness and organized setup.
I've had mine for a few weeks now - it's completely transformed my eurorack experience. The sequence generator never disappoints and inspires me to no end.
Thank you so much for making this video. I was waiting for someone like you to make a video like this on this module. I have been working with the Hermod+ for a month now. Exactly for the reasons you are using it. To be able to perform modular music in a more songlike way. I make modular music and Im a singer songwriter. I want to bring these two worlds together. The Hermod+ really makes this possible. And although the manual is quite good it could not answer all of my questions. It inspiring to see someone as talented as you work with the Hermod+. You taught me a thing or two!
This looks like EXACTLY what I have been searching for. I have a NerdSeq and I do enjoy it, but I find myself fighting it a lot of the time. It’s capable of so much, but there’s just a lot of friction for me every time I work with it. This looks like it has all of the power the NerdSeq brings to the table with a much more play-focused style workflow. I think I need one…
Thank you for this, Jeremy. Fantastic coverage and demonstration of this amazing module! I upgraded to the + immediately upon release, simply because of how central the original was to my rack setup, and I couldn't be happier with it in all categories. One thing to note here as well, the "feel" of the buttons and knobs is a really nice step up from the previous version and it's a joy to use. Not to mention how performant it is with the hardware upgrades inside, everything is really snappy. Wonderful stuff as always sir, all the best!
OMG, thank you Jeremy for this video! You explained this gear so well and clearly that you changed my preconception about it completely. I'm just a few months into modular, and was feeling the need for a sequencer that can both store and/or play predefined melodies (using a Korg SQ-1 and a Keystep 37 as of now), and can jumble and spice it up when I want to. I'm looking for more musicality and arranging, but I was discouraged from considering the Hermod+ because I saw a led screen and I don't enjoy the menu diving even on the Pam's Pro neither. Once again, thank you so much, for this and for all of your other videos too! You're an incredibly important influence on my modular and musical learning path! 🙏🙌
Glad to see another Squarp product in the wild. Modular intimidates me to no end but the bangers you knock out from them never ceases to amaze. Loved jam 1 but that beat in modulation tracks segment all the way through Jam 2 👀👌💥
Surprised about the lack of marketing/hype for this sequencer seeing as the OG is regarded as a pretty staple Eurorack classic. Look forward to hear your thoughts.
Your combination of practical gear insight/sharing and amazing jams is just intoxicatingly good. We need like a nobel prize for this stuff so you can get it
I've always enjoyed modular synths as a vicarious pleasure - but watching what Hermod can do has for the first time made me seriously consider opening that can of rabbit holes.
Watching you with your wall of synth and it's amazing layout is like experiencing Clark's third law. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. when you built out that dynamic effects section it was pretty magical to hear.
Thank you for doing this! Having had the original Hermod for a while I recently got the Hermod+ and initially thought I made a mistake, figuring it could only do what the old Hermod did, just in a better and more organized way. You have shown that this is definitely not the case! The Hermod+ is very, very deep. I especially liked the dynamic effects chaining section in your video - there is just so much you can do with just one note merely by changing the order of the effects. The live/jam and realtime sequence change functions are also very flexible.
This looks like an amazing tool for modular composition and workflow. If I hadn't already invested in a startup for a new sequencer, I would probably have taken a very close look at this module after watching this video.
Love the Hermod+. Been using a pyramid for years and then tried all the different modular sequencers and just love melodic stuff even in modular so bought the Hermod + and couldn't be happier.
This looks like a great device, some really well thought out updates! I got in on the upcoming Reliq that, at least on paper, looks like it might be the sequencer of my dreams... fingers crossed. The Hermod+ is tempting despite this! Well done demonstration.
Great video, I like this approach. When will modular companies make sequencers with accompanying CV outputs per channel? Gate, Pitch CV, Mod CV1, Mod CV2, Mod CV3, Mod CV4 - per track would be ideal. Jeremy, if you're looking for your next step in the synth world, maybe you should get your name on a module. Partner with a company to design something...or something. DivKid, Andrew Huang, Tim Held, Robin Vincent, and others have their names (and sometimes faces) on modules made by other companies.
Really needed to do some fall garden work, but couldnt turn this off. The Hermod never really interested me much, but the '+', crap, I want another module. Thanks for the excellent workflow video.
Not sure if you'll see this question (4 months late to the party) but I've been dipping my toes back into modular and have an expert sleepers es-8 bringing my cv/gate stuff into my rack. I had the original hermod and loved it (sold it) and wonder whether the hermod adds anything significant that I cant get through sequencing in Ableton. Your videos are incredible!
So with the Mod recording thing you can essentially turn it into a Voltage Block? The Voltage Block is limited to 5v no? Is this the same w the Hermod? Can the modulation you record be edited or quantized?
10v i must have missed this i answered my own question. Would be cool to see a bit more of the step can you change shape/smooth it out etc all this stuff.
I got the Squarp Hapax a couple of months ago, it's pretty much the desktop version of this (with a few more knobs). And while I still miss my Polyend Seq sometimes (it was a sequencer with wooden side panels! 😍), I by now know everything there is about the Squarp, even after a longer break of working instead of making music, as the interface is so well done. Also the Squarp can do 100x more than the Polyend. Definitely one of the best purchases I made.
Haha similar here! I kinda case the Hermod + aside as something too deep or complicated for my workflow but Jeremy has this amazing way of explaining things in approachable ways. The cv recording capabilities within it and very useful on screen and pad feedback seem hard to beat. Love modular sequencers but something I’m missing is that what you see is what you’re getting. Something to think about maybe later on next year. Big modules like hermod+ take me forever to save up for but maybe worth it here.
It’s funny though. All Jeremy’s videos make me think the modules are amazing. I’ve owned a few of them now and I’ve come to the conclusion It’s Jeremy that’s amazing. He’d probably sound good with some pots and pans and a pair of rusty spoons. Maybe an idea for a future stream?
jokes aside , im fucking buying it rn , it has a workflow extreamly similar to the akai mpc (besides sample chopping obiously) but with the extra of midi and all the modulation goodness thanks for putting this on my radar , it maybe a little bit overkill for my first modular sequencer , but man it ticks all the boxes.
god even if you're talking about modular gear I don't understand, you just have the best music of any music UA-camr out there. The way you build as you're talking about it and then just seamlessly collapse into a jam....it's ridiculous.
This pretty much answered every technical question I had on it. I have another sequencer that is continuously being updated with new functionality but is not intuitive to use and the manual is all over the place. It seems like the Hermod+ software is thoughtfully designed, easy to use, and "internally consistent". (If that makes any sense.) Is that the case? Are you ever fighting it? Any weird button combos you need to memorize?
about that polyphonic CV sequencing... You have 3 outputs there. if you want to make a chord, do you have to go in each tracks piano roll to draw those seperate notes or is there a way to make that chord in a single track just outputting it through those 3 different outputs? You know because having to go on a different view for each note for me would be very disorienting for only seeing one note of the chord at a time. Hopefully this question made sense...
