Out of all the bands i listen to, Dark Tranquillity's lyrics by far are the most intricate. Pure masterpieces. But i have to say my favorite song on this album is A New Build.
Back in 2005 when I was living in Latvia, I became super excited about them and bought this album. This album Character was my soundtrack and sounded so fresh and exciting seeing that I never heard anything like it before. I am rediscovering my love for melodic death metal again with this song again.
Hopefully you are still listening to them, Mikael Stanne is a genius. They have so much great stuff. He said they should start recording their next album in early 19'.
When I think of "metal" as a genre, I am always reminded of the beauty that is Dark Tranquillity. It saddens me that so many people think of cliche bands with trite, meaningless lyrics and bland musicianship.
Just listen to Dark Tranquillity, every song you can find here in youtube, and you'll get that their sound is unique and very similar thought different from album to album. I follow them since their first album and I don't regret: I've never felt disapointed with any new stuff they brought.

Gotta love DT, the lyrics, the heavy metal but with a nice melodic feel, the songs when the singer isn't growling proves hes not just a growler but actually has a good voice.

LotsaJello, you'll get used to the growls if you listen to it enough. I also detested this kind of SINGING when I didn't understand it. Now I think it fits this kind of music very well.

***** if you are asking about metal bands that come close to this... some of the earlier In Flames albums (I like In Flames overall, but they're not likeable if you are only into pure melodeath like some are). Check out the band Insomnium, some of Before the Dawn's albums (Rise of the Phoenix is the one I like most), the band Omnium Gatherum.. I've got a huge ass list somewhere, need to find it XD
I swear all you people ever complain about on metal videos is the vocals. If you dont like em dont listen to em, its not like people are gonna put out a instumental version of a track just cause you dont like it. Get over it. It is what it is,and this track in particular is amazing.
I've not been listening to DT for 10 years I guess and now I listen their songs (fresh material also) and I'm satisfied that they keep rockin' within their style. For example it sad for me to watch and listen to In Flames who play some emo metal core stuff.
I agree with you, in respect to their new fans, they have just lost their way lol, but as much as there are people who can enjoy what they are doing now, good luck to them. I liked lunar strain, but the jester race and whoracle was the defining identity of in flames for me, a lot of changings appeared in colony and clayman, i think it's due to bjorn gelotte involvement, wich has to be a drummer in previous albums, so he surely has to come with new ideas, i didn't follow them since that time. 🤘
saw them last night for the first time. The Awesome. DT were here first time ever, and judging by the reactions, they were really amazed to receive such a welcome. Looking forward to having them in Slovakia again!
