I am actually kinda confused between these two things: The Rate of turn is directly proportional to angle of bank and horizontal component of lift which is the centrapetal force. In the formula, airspeed and ROT is inversely proportional. But increasing airspeed increases the lift which should increase the centrapetal force while bank angle is kept constant. So I am confused in the math here. When I think about it without going deep in the math, if we increase airspeed it would increase the radius of turn which decreases the rate of turn but I wanna prove it with the equations as well. Thanks for your help in advance! Great video btw

I don't think you're considering the force caused by the increased forward speed which is acting perpendicular to the centripetal force pulling the aircraft to the outside of the turning circle

    Hi,
I'd like to know the timing to initiate a turn. Example, I'm following a VOR course 354° for a visual approach at LFMN and I need to turn right onto the runway 04L with an inbound course 43°.
I can determine the bank angle and time necessary for the turn but how woulld I know when to initiate the turn? I do not need to make a complete turn so unsure about the formula you give.

Hi, timing a turn is only really ever going to be done in cloud with failure of several instruments. If you are flying a visual approach, then your cues for when to initiate the turn should be done by looking out of the window and taking the wind in account, then adjusting the rate of turn depending on what you see.

Got me on this one ! I don't remember having learned that in my PPL (Montreal, 1990) ...

Don’t feel too bad, I got this one from the CFI database!

It would be cool to know why this happens as well.

The way I look at it, lower airspeed implies higher angle of attack, which means the wings try to generate more lift, some of which (due to angle of bank) goes into sideways motion.
