It’s so surreal seeing Chang Kai-shek and Mao Zedong celebrating the surrender of Japan in 1945, knowing that they went back to being bitter enemies again almost immediately.

Both sides attempted to negotiate and experienced almost a hundred years of social unrest and war. Everyone hoped for peace to arrive earlier, but unfortunately, in the end, they still fought and split. It has nothing to do with political stance, and I sincerely hope that both sides of the Taiwan Strait can become one family again.
