For me, THIS song is actually the strongest evidence for me that Sega still used micheal jacksons songs without saying they did. Sonic 3's soundtrack just sounds totally different than the other games, being a lot more "RnB" or "Hip Hop" Driven. This song in particular just sounds so much like micheal jackson it hurts, In my mind there isn't anybody else who would create a song this groovy for a launch base level, unless sega just had a VERY particular vision.
@@WheatOatmeal True lol. The very first time I heard Sonic 3's music years ago (particularly the Mid Boss Theme. That "HOO!" lol), something felt......unique and different with it's music. I paid it no mind too much still but that certain beat in Carnival Night that sounded waaaaaaaay too similar to Michael Jackson's "Jam" was what really got me suspicious. Then Ice Cap was the final straw and just made me look up was he and his team somehow involved with Sonic 3's OST and sure enough, they were indeed. Imagine my shock.
Honestly, I'm not familiar with all of MJ's material, but this is strong enough to be a release on one of his albums, with the production being higher of course, and actual lyrics. The Sonic 3 soundtrack has always seemed strange. Angel Island, Hydrocity, and Marble Garden are excellent tracks, composition and production-wise. They don't seem dated in the same way that earlier Sonic tracks are, especially those from the first game. That being said, the soundtrack changes dramatically at Carnival Night, with MJ's involvement being apparent with the heavy "new jack swing" undertones in the song. Also note that Acts 1 and 2 are not heavily differentiated under MJ as when the Japanese composers worked, probably because MJ simply could not be bothered to remix his own original material at the time. Anyways, this song is very characteristic of something MJ would release. Simplistic but interestingly unorthodox, with subtle and limited progression (MJ's songs are meant to be danced to, and so once he has established the "hook", he sticks close to it), and heavy use of vocal inserts.
You mean Brad, since like all/most singers it was a team effort and MJ's involvement has never been clear except that he was was involved in the project not how involved, whilst Brads involvement is very clear since songs were used in the game that belonged to Brad not MJ ever.

I agree, this is one that could easily have been written by his team, or at least based on the work they did. This "kid in the 90s" probably had several questions flowing through his head: "is that the death egg?" "What's it doing here?" "Didn't I destroy it?" And as you play the stage you realize that it's about to take off. The stage almost sends you into panic; you have to reach the death egg and stop it from lifting off as fast as possible. Yeah this is better to me. Only the super theme, competition music, and carnival night act 2 are better in proto to me. The final kicks it's ass imo. It's just too badass, funky, and iconic.

MJ was my favorite MJ next to Michael Jordan growing up. Sonic series was my favorite and never knew until recently (2013) that MJ did LOTS of the Sonic 3 tracks. God truly does create miracles and I'm glad I was able to enjoy one of the many He has provided.
Michael Jackson did one track (the credits). The rest (ICZ, CNZ, LBZ, misc) was done by Brad Buxer specifically. They're potentially still owned by MJ's estate though as he did the work under MJ's agreement with Sega. MJ did one session of work before leaving, per Buxer.
+Razerhdd simlar yes but it doesn't surprise me since the music composers have slipped themes from other songs on to the sonic games try blade runner end theme and scrap brain zone :P

I know I'm grave digging here, but I just heard "I Can't Wait" at Walgreens and it reminded me of Sonic. Took me a while but finally remembered that it's basically Launch Base Zone. Feels great to be a Sega nerd! :)
Playing through this zone. I'm just hearing the song. The game is cheering you on. This is the last zone! Go! You can do this! (Go! Go! Go! Go! Go G-Go Go!)
Unless you're playing 3&K, in which case it's saying, "Go! Can you stop the Death Egg in time?" You ultimately don't, but it gets you pumped and ready for the second part of the game in which you destroy it once and for all!
Haha! Well, the Death Egg did crash. Sonic and Tails simply land on Angel Island and need to find its crash site. I would say that the flow is all right, although it could have been better.
This track gives me major Sonic CD US soundtrack vibes. The beginning sounds like Wacky Workbench Present (where only bass and percussion plays only until the rest of the instruments drop) and so do the guitars. The trumpets in the middle of the song have an atmospheric vibe (that a lot of US tracks have), the percussion sounds as if Brad Kaiser and Armando Peraza made it together and the vocals heavily remind me of the simple female vocals from the US OST. I know Sonic 3's OST wasn't made by them, but it still gives me vibes of it.
Remember playing this as a kid back in the 90's and the playground rumour was that was Knuckles providing the backing 'Go, Go, Go' verses. Funny times man.
I'm sure that 'GO!' pretty much sums up the game.

Go! Go! This instrument was first used in sonic cd (prototype 510) in the beta speed shoes theme.
I never played Sonic 3 & Knuckles.I only played sonic 3 in my childhood, and for me this theme is perfect for a last level theme. Not even close to Death egg Zone however...
Never was the biggest fan of this track but now with Origins coming back to this I hear a masterpiece, this is the real song for Launch base zone.
MJ did such a great Job with Carnival, Ice cap and Launch and I am happy that he was a part in my childhood in sonic 3.- RIP
One reason I can think of is that it has the sound of glass shattering similar to Carnival Night Zone which is based on Michael's "Jam".
Best track to exist in a game period.
Dunno, though this is probably one of if not my favorite soundtrack, flying battery act 1, Icecap act 1, hydrocity act 2, sandopolis act 1 and a few more are better to me. I love this one to death though.
I'm feel it more "Launch Base" than the prototype version, but the proto is great too
Yeah this is better to me. Only the super theme, competition music, and carnival night act 2 are better in proto to me. The final kicks it's ass imo. It's just too badass, funky, and iconic.
This music is so awesome. Why can't Sonic Team understand this music is far better suited to Sonic than the rock music they love so much now.
This is exactly what I'm saying!
actually ,I think both fit Sonic quite well. the rock music fits his carefree/do-what-I-want personality. overall the music is upbeat, just like he is :) I mean, have you heard City Escape? lol
Crush 40 is fucking awesome dude
This is good but Rock is better
I guess because it's not 1994 anymore.
I'm working on an fan game called Sonic Planecore I'm thinking puting this song in the game because everyone miss this music due to Sonic Origins prototype music.
This was my favorite sonic 3 OST, but launch base isn't the same without this in sonic origins. Thank goodness there's at least a mod with OG music.
this takes me back to when i was a kid
The theme that plays when your driving to the beach
So that's where Sonic X got the 'go' part in their theme song XD!
When I was younger I first thought it was "lunch base"
XD
death egg zone
eat it
At 00:17 "ass wipe....ass wipe" always sounded like this when I played as a kid, and today that still stands. Never knew MJ helped with the music. But hey thats a fun fact.

This is extremely underrated.
Funky! I love this. Man, Sonic music is just amazing. Simple melodies but the entire song is just well done.
Damn just got where that groove comes from :
Nu Shooz - I Can't Wait
lmao this
my personal fav
Same.
When this covid nonsense is over, I'm playing this at my next wedding party gig
How 'bout this version?
ua-cam.com/video/AyoBkI6J8kM/v-deo.html
i love the hip hop feel to this if mj really did compose he did a good job if not they should hiremore people like this guy
I'm surprised nobody's made a mashup of this and Sonic Spinball's Toxic Caves theme yet.
0:16 - Nu Shooz - I Can't Wait (The Real Ones know. For those who don't... you're welcome.)
0:15 this always reminds me of Nu Shooz - I can't wait
Playing Sonic 3 Complete just to remind myself how much of a banger this is
IT'S ARE NOSTALGIC!!!!
Still one of my favorite songs in any game ever; just sounds so different from anything else, esp. for a last level.
I love this song
Listen at :15 and then look up a song by Nu Shooz called I Can't Wait and listen closely to the intro.. Mind blowing
+Razerhdd Yea I see what you mean
+Razerhdd simlar yes but it doesn't surprise me since the music composers have slipped themes from other songs on to the sonic games try blade runner end theme and scrap brain zone :P
+fruitsnackia2012 try Frogger 2 Gold Mines And Haunted Ship from Sonic Rush Adventure
.....And Ristar Crying World And Super Hot By Ghetto Cat And Red Mountain 2
+Cinko420 Ristar was SO goddamned good. The music was excellent, too.
Rocket Mole trying to wave-fist when he lost his armor was SO CUTE.... didn't want to make him cry...
0:15
0:18 - 0:34 sounds like the song from nu shooz I can't wait.
I know I'm grave digging here, but I just heard "I Can't Wait" at Walgreens and it reminded me of Sonic. Took me a while but finally remembered that it's basically Launch Base Zone. Feels great to be a Sega nerd! :)
RIP MJ
This song goes so damn hard!!!
Even though I wasn't born during original game release, I still count it as childhood because I used to play a rom as a kid
it’s so crazy cause as a first listen, this sounds exactly like a MJ production lol.
Yeah I did it!
(Mushroom Hill Zone)
Are you serious. That climax for this?
Haha! Well, the Death Egg did crash. Sonic and Tails simply land on Angel Island and need to find its crash site. I would say that the flow is all right, although it could have been better.
Crunchy beats... I love it
This is my jam right here!
One of my favorite Sonic songs.....brings back the memories big time.
Apollo when he turned 11:
So many memories about that game….
*Sonic mega collection plus intensified*
RIP this, ice cap and carnival night I boycott Sonic Origins
This track gives me major Sonic CD US soundtrack vibes. The beginning sounds like Wacky Workbench Present (where only bass and percussion plays only until the rest of the instruments drop) and so do the guitars. The trumpets in the middle of the song have an atmospheric vibe (that a lot of US tracks have), the percussion sounds as if Brad Kaiser and Armando Peraza made it together and the vocals heavily remind me of the simple female vocals from the US OST. I know Sonic 3's OST wasn't made by them, but it still gives me vibes of it.
I just was listening to Michael Jacksons - Off The Wall. This intro part sounds pretty similar.
Jokes aside, I like this song. It always has that "we're in an airport" vibe for me.
I do the same thing with the TMNT IV: Turtles in Time soundtrack. Alleycat Blues has some amazingly deep/loud bass!
Remember playing this as a kid back in the 90's and the playground rumour was that was Knuckles providing the backing 'Go, Go, Go' verses. Funny times man.
Look how they massacred my boy.
_Glares at Sonic Orgins_
Super soundtrack
I bet Inspector Gadget would jam to this music lol.
i remember playin sonic 1-3 as a kid,the music is superb, sad that kids that was born after the 90s didnt grow up with nice soulful beats like this
