I think we all felt James' annoyance at being lied to by decades of tv & film on this one
I have never been in an elevator where there is a button that stops it. Even in movies they remove the panel and fiddle with the wires behind.
I would have thought a touring stand up who stays in hotels would realise an alarm is not a break, just as cars do not screech to a halt when you sound the horn.
But still a funny clip.
However, I challenge anybody on UA-cam to name a movie where this trick works... I am more than happy to be proved wrong

It’s a regular bit on NCIS. Need to have a private conversation. Just stop the elevator. I’m sure no one else wanted or needed to use it.
there absolutely are old elevators with a big red STOP switch on them, I used one in Long Beach about 14 years ago, and it would literally just stop the damn thing on the floor it was at, no alarm nothing. We used it to load luggage without having to hold a button or block the door
I still think James was robbed here, I think his difference was the most dramatic. He went in full of confidence (bordering on arrogance) and emerged an utterly broken man, hard to be more different!

I had the same thought as James. Press the stop button and change and be good. I thought elevators had a stop button. And so did James. But apparently not.
Stop buttons in elevators are extra. Building owners rarely order them these days.
@@xc43t it's soemthing else that can break. And there is not really a reason to have one for users.
Yeah, my recollection of stop buttons is that they're locked behind a panel, or need a key or something that only firefighters carry, or something like that. So my idea was to jam the door from closing (ie, just holding my hand to keep it open), then spend a minute or to figuring out the buttons, and if there WAS a stop button, then use that.
Of course, that would require that I have 2 separate disguise plans - one for if the elevator could be jammed, and one if it couldn't be. And frankly I probably couldn't think that fast. (Or maybe have a "simple" and "more complex if I have time" disguise that builds on top of the simple one.) But I did get the "check the elevator buttons first!" idea.
(Other thought - press Ground, but press the OTHER buttons first.)
@@Thisandthat8908 I thought as much. The only reason to have a stop button in an elevator as an end user is for things people should better be doing in privacy of their homes😄

The absolute best season. You knew every task they were all going to do something insane, but one of them was going to do something REALLY insane.

Rhod getting mustard all over his face was his punishment for all the harm he inflicted on Alex
The later serieses of TM have fried my brain because on rewatching this I saw the sign saying "When Nothing Goes Right, Go Left" and thought that must be a clue to there being some amazing costumes hidden in the stairway or something, when in reality it's probably just a shit sign
It’s kind of cute when you realize the elevator is to the right of the sign and the stairs are on the left. If nothing goes right (If the elevator is broken), go left (take the stairs)
Kerry's timekeeping is abysmal, much like a certain undermined vole

They let him survive with the pain.
They could have altered their appearance during the five minutes prep time, then when the time starts in the lift they just undo everything and emerge as their normal selves.
James acaster had a plan and it failed.
Did he ever explain what look he would have done, if he had succeeded?
Every series is fantastic, but Taskmaster really peaked in series 7. The chemistry, the chaos, the outside-the-box thinking. Just perfect television
Honestly, if James' goal was to stop the lift to give himself more time, he probably could've tried to force the interior doors open between floors, stopping the lift that way
Opening the doors means that you have to stop altering your appearance.
I often agree with Greg’s overall scoring… but disagree, absolutely, with Rhod winning this one. In retrospect, Greg likely earned James’ tirade about favouratism.
I loved this series. Everyone was great, the tasks were hilarious and the chemistry/funny friction between them all was just brilliant.
I am still amazed nobody tried to push all the other floor buttons after pressing G. Most lifts I was into will listen to the input and open the doors on the highlighted floors even after they already begin to move.
There aren't any other floors in between.
This was the best series ever.
A 1 point effort in S7 is a 5 point effort in most other series.

This is going to go down in history as the absolute worst episode I could have picked when we were visiting inlaws and my wife casually said "Oh have you guys seen Taskmaster it's really funny?"

In my primary school we had this lift that was just like a moving floor instead of a whole moving room. Me and my friend were going up in the lift one day when her shoe got stuck in between the floor and the wall. I pressed the emergency button and the lift did stop. Then I went down, her shoe got released, and then we went up again. So I don’t think James was crazy for assuming it would stop.
I had the same idea to take my clothes off and smear mustard on my face. Also totally overlooked the mayo. Seems obvious now.
Hmmm. If he had pressed the "close doors" button, would that have kept them from opening? Or would they open first and then close again?
James and Kerry don't get to keep putting on their costumes after the elevator opens, but Rhod who was in his underwear and a wig when the doors opened still gets scored on the mustard and glasses? It's good to be friends with the Taskmaster.
They stopped themselves. Sometimes it pays to bend the rules.
Still one of my all-time favourite tasks.

I think they all missed a trick for this one: take the props out of the case and use the case to stop the doors from closing completely. Take as much time as you want and then remove the case and travel to the ground floor.

Time starts when the doors close. If the doors don't close, the time doesn't start.
The rules are that you can start altering your appearance when inside the elevators and the doors are closed but you are on the right track. Just get in the elevator and don't press the floor button. The doors will close and when you finish changing then hit "G".

James has one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen. But, I wouldn't be so foolish as to rate it.
I'm glad someone tried to stop the elevator. If they weren't instructed to press the G button, the best method would have been to just press the door close button and when they were ready press G

The task letter doesn't seem to mention that the elevator has to be moving. They could've just entered the elevator and waited for the doors to close.
I love rhod, he really did outstanding.
I disagree with Rhod winning cause it was suppose to be their look when the doors open and at that point he wasn't wearing mustard or sunglasses and Jess was wearing the beard.

According to a video someone did on Taskmaster filming locations, the Series 7 location tasks were in and around a place called the Woodrow High House.
It also says it on the bathroom door when Rhod goes in

My oldest friend’s husband had the same cancer that Rhod has.
Rhod was treated at Velindre, the cancer centre that he has raised so much money for. May he win every battle he faces. Wales is very proud of him.
