Little tip when you open your bag of chips cut a U shape at the top so you can tie them back up again when you put them back in the freezer save spillage 👍👍
I always buy frozen chips but deep fry them,I know it's not healthy but boy do they taste better, thanks for your brilliant entertaining and educational channel, and your natural humour, love it 👍
I prefer to buy a 10kg bag Morris piper’s at the local farmers market for £6.00 You can then pre-cut your own chips . You also have a good stock of potato, for other uses. Shepherds pie, and various other dishes. Back to the chips . I cut and precook, ie power boil, for about 10 minutes, then after a short period of rest it’s into vegetable fat, for short periods, until your desired outcome. Some people like really dark coloured chips , so more cooking required. Each to their own. 👍
You will never beat chip shop chips. As oven chips go, I've tried main branded and supermarket branded. I alway go back to McCain's homefries crinkle chips. I cook them in a halogen oven, they are lovely if you don't over cook them. They are the only oven chips I will buy now.
I noticed there you show the air fryer instructions back in my day it was frying and grill instructions glad they now putting that info on now they still do the BBQ method I notice but have not seen frying instructions for years ….. Good video as ever 👍
They look nice. And the Iceland ones for 13p per 100 grams are not bad. Them and a couple of eggs wonderful. Quality video Gaz, with one of our favourite foods.

Agreed, chip shop chips for me should really be thick cut, softer and greasier than regular oven chips. Those looked decent for what they are, and I have tried the Harry Ramsden’s before - great in a chip butty with lashings of butter and chip spice, mmmmm!

Hello young man, how about seasonings, I personally use Maggi, its a liquid that can season nearly all savoury foods from pies to gravy, curry, soups and stews ? I also use Shwartz season all which is a salt, pepper and mixed herb season all, this has changed a basic cheese on toast or added to a plate of chips up to the next level, both available from Asda, both are game changers (use sparingly at 1st). Best wishes to you all ! Colin.

@@jshaw4757 😂 that's exactly what I do...put em in low, when softening, damage them (is what I say), and then let the crispy goodness come forth! They definitely need a rough edge here and there to make them pukka.
I would do them at a lower temperature, my airfryer said to reduce temp from what packets say, I am surprised the airfryer instructions on the bag said 200C still. I also like to roll them in oil halfway through cooking, or dripping or other fat. For some reason most manufacturers think people want to cook chips in an oven to be healthier, so most are very low fat -I just want them from the oven for convenience.

Hi Gareth from Spain, tha's lookin' reet chipper there, lad! Here, we get thick cut chips from the supermarket and cook them in the air fryer attachment on top of the halogen oven. We find that we have to give them a bit of a stir round otherwise the edges get a bit overbrowned. We can't be doing with those skinny "French fries" that we get served up in many places.
Hi Gaz…I’ve been buying oven chips for as long as I can remember….every make and type that’s been available……forget the oven……..depending on how many you want just shallow or deep fry,5 to 10 mins ….perfect, and the cheaper ones without the fancy coatings always seem better.😋😋
I bought the cheapest Iceland chips and they cook great in the air fryer being 3 adults and 2 kids . Nannan me. daughter and hubby and 2 grandkids we use a kilo bag per meal nearly. I still have a chip pan and I use beef dripping nowt like proper chips. Great show Gareth
The ingredients for both are near identical. As there is no artificial food colouring on either I am guessing the dextrose (sugar) is for the colour and at a different level of caramelisation. Maris Piper are the superior spud for chips. S&V:- Definitely salt first which is on the top layer, then malt vinegar which will take up the salt and drain it to the lower layers. Other way around is for the same people who put cold milk on the teabag first. We sadly don't have enough mental hospitals ;) I always S&V my chippie chips at home because the chippies never put enough on and use "non-brewed condiment" which is not malt vinegar at all.
I've not tried the basic Iceland chips, but their Ridiculously Crispy Skin-On Chip are absolutely the best frozen chip I have ever eaten. Done in the air fryer with a small amount of oil and salt, unbeatable!
I think you might prefer the Harry Ramsden's because one of the ingredients in the coating was dextrose which I believe is sugar. Only you could pick up a chip & say its a bit yellow it looks like a hi viz jacket 😁 Yesterday I suggested lemon juice & hot water to clean your greasy rack if its super greasy rub half a lemon over it leave it for a while & then wash off in hot soapy water
What would be a good comparison , would be the Harry Ramsdens vs frozen maxi piper chips , I think all the difference would be the type of potato used .. great video nonetheless 👍

I’m a bit partial to McCains Smoky BBQ Flavour Maker fries at the moment. Get three 250g servings and three flavour sachets which you sprinkle on before cooking.
I used to visit Harry Ramsdens fish and chip restaurant at Guisely near Leeds before it was taken by Ross fish Co. I’m fairly sure that the chips (and the fish) were cooked in beef dripping, (beef tallow for U.S.) by far the best cooking medium for both taste and health!
I find it's best to airfry oven chips, and normally, the inexpensive chips deliver the best results. we all put some kind of sauce on them to improve the flavour.
Im having to budget and spent a few quid on asds yellow priced items. I have a few bags of their chips. 88p a bag! Can't go wrong. But my favourite are lidl chips. About £1.39 for 1.5kg bag. Nice and fluffy n crispy in my air frier but I'll def give those Iceland one a try. Look yummy as for asda one, get what u pay for but they are OK by me. Though I have to slap some garlic salt on to give them some taste, and ketchup...lots of ketchup lol
question is... are home made chips better than store bought chips? which potato variety do you use for chips? does it make a difference in taste? i prefer home made chips, or cubes... cubes cook faster and you can flavor them better...
The colour difference seems to be due to the type of potato used, the Ramsden's are maris pipers and come out the same colour as the chips I make from when using pipers in the airfryer with a spray of oil were as the Iceland look to be using a cheaper variety, I have often found my chips look that colour when I use bakers.
Good to compete Gareth.Iceland aren't bad for the money however my favourite is aunty bessies. By the way good news Barrow getting that submarine contract 👍
I cut a strip all the way across the top of the chip bag and use that strip to tie the bag after taking out the chips I want to cook. Also, I always use a deep fryer. I hate oven chips, haven't tried any in my air fryer yet, (It's got one of those rotary chip whatsits). My dad always had a chip pan half full of pork dripping to fry the chips in and his chips were always absolutely brilliant. These days I cook my chips rice bran oil, not as tasty as pork dripping, but much healthier, (and still a lot tastier than oven chips).
I do like a nice moist floppy one myself. I do have frozen chips, which are all air fried now (your influence) but wetherspoons chips are my favourite 😍
Nice review Mr Chipping "Chips". They both look good to me Gareth, yellow or brown. It is important to have the right variety of potato for chips. Same with crisps. Otherwise the potato flavour and texture gets lost in the chipping process. Always vinegar first before salting for me. I hope you enjoyed the chip butties. Another top chip off the block review today Gareth. Cheers 👍🤤😀
Hi mate. this is not related to the video but is a joke that you might like as an Army veteran. So a reporter was interviewing 3 servicemen. One soldier, one Royal Marine and one RAF Airman and he asked what they would do if they found a scorpion in their tent. The soldier said he would kill it with his knife and throw it out. The Marine said he would kill it with his knife and eat it. The Airman said he would ring room service and ask why there was a tent in his room. Just for laughs from one Veteran to another.
I don't like frozen chips cooked in deep fat fryer but the frozen chips done in the airfryer they are so nice I've got a chefree airfryer grill and I've a basket for my chips I cooked some last night I warmed the sirfryer up with basket in and when warm i put jn frozen chips they cooked so fast about 10 minutes I really enjoyed them love fran xxxc
I usually make my own in the air fryer then sprinkle peri peri salt on them delicious but I always have frozen in supermarket own when I can't be bothered peeling and chipping 😊
Although Aldl, Lidl and Iceland do have some good food on offer, I've found that their frozen chips fail miserably - they're either completely tasteless or every bagful has more than it's fair share of scraps - bits of chips that dry out so much during cooking that they get chucked away. My favourite frozen chips are the Albert Bartlett range. 😋
@@jevward5428 The Iceland crinkle oven chips are good done in the air fryer £1 for 900g, I think most of the supermarket ones come from a mega own brand chip factory in Belgium (unfortunately)
I have tried practically every frozen oven chip under the sun, but for me the best are waitrose frozen chunky chips , and they surprisingly cheap for waitrose at only £2.25 lol
Aldi do a skinf on fries... they are really nice and come out perfect and crispy. Sadly I have a egg allergy and they had a egg based batter on them.... made me quite ill... Who would check the ingredients of chips for egg?

Good question!
I actually use a silicone mat in the bottom of mine and I had to cut it down to fit but it does the job I just wash and put it back
Cheers Eli
The colour difference seems to be due to the type of potato used, the Ramsden's are maris pipers and come out the same colour as the chips I make from when using pipers in the airfryer with a spray of oil were as the Iceland look to be using a cheaper variety, I have often found my chips look that colour when I use bakers.
Good to compete Gareth.Iceland aren't bad for the money however my favourite is aunty bessies.
By the way good news Barrow getting that submarine contract 👍
Cheers Andrew
@@BaldFoodieGuy I meant compare 😁
Aunt Bessie homestyle chips. Best frozen chips I have eaten. Crisp yet fluffy.
Try using a oven cover from pound land for your sage oven keep things clean reuseble
Great idea!
Hope you and your family had a great Christmas and happy new year
Same to you all the best 👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy thanks mate
Hello!. a large plate of triple cooked chips and a dollop of Hammonds chop sauce who needs gormet grub ?
I do like a nice moist floppy one myself. I do have frozen chips, which are all air fried now (your influence) but wetherspoons chips are my favourite 😍
Sounds great! Ha
I think the Wetherspoons ones have a secret recipe coating 👍 🤫 they are lush 😊
Nice review Mr Chipping "Chips".
They both look good to me Gareth, yellow or brown. It is important to have the right variety of potato for chips. Same with crisps. Otherwise the potato flavour and texture gets lost in the chipping process.
Always vinegar first before salting for me.
I hope you enjoyed the chip butties.
Another top chip off the block review today Gareth.
Cheers 👍🤤😀
Thank you John. Can't beat Chips. All the best pal.
Hi mate. this is not related to the video but is a joke that you might like as an Army veteran.
Haha yes, I've been in the army and the RAF. Yes the raf are treated well lol
@@BaldFoodieGuy I was in the RAF Police.
So im going to use maris piper....so far air fryer Ramsden my pref ...tasty....thankyou for vid ....appreciated 🎉🎉🎉
Hope you enjoy
Will have to try the Harry Ramsdens living on my own, a bag that size will last ages
You should try the Aldi beef dripping chips. They're amazing in the air fryer 🤤
Yes they are good
You should try the Toffifee chocolates, super yummy 😋
I don't like frozen chips cooked in deep fat fryer but the frozen chips done in the airfryer they are so nice I've got a chefree airfryer grill and I've a basket for my chips I cooked some last night I warmed the sirfryer up with basket in and when warm i put jn frozen chips they cooked so fast about 10 minutes I really enjoyed them love fran xxxc
Cheers Francis.
I usually make my own in the air fryer then sprinkle peri peri salt on them delicious but I always have frozen in supermarket own when I can't be bothered peeling and chipping 😊
Great idea!
Cheers Fred
Aldi frozen crinkle chips all the way
@@jevward5428 The Iceland crinkle oven chips are good done in the air fryer £1 for 900g, I think most of the supermarket ones come from a mega own brand chip factory in Belgium (unfortunately)
I have tried practically every frozen oven chip under the sun, but for me the best are waitrose frozen chunky chips , and they surprisingly cheap for waitrose at only £2.25 lol
Peregrin I have to say Waitrose Essentials chips which arent the ones you refer to are dreadful
Aldi do a skinf on fries... they are really nice and come out perfect and crispy. Sadly I have a egg allergy and they had a egg based batter on them.... made me quite ill... Who would check the ingredients of chips for egg?
I have every sympathy. A food allergy must be a terrible thing and quite restrictive. The skin on are decent chips mind as is a lot of Aldi's stuff.
Cheers pal, yes we had them ones.
That's called wedges not chips🤪
Worth doing a video on asda extra special home style chips vs vs mccain home chips.
I thought harry Ramsden chips were in beef dripping originally 🤔but I’m probably wrong … still can’t beat frying em though 🙄 thanks for sharing
Good point
When I saw the bright yellow chip it reminded me that chip shops in the black country batter their chips so they are the same colour.
