A good experiment and it wasn't pointless. You've learned the Sage isn't very good for bacon. I do mine in the air fryer. 4 mins one side then turn it over then do another 3 mins. I do like it fried but it's a lot easier to clean the air fryer than to clean the hob, splash back and cooker hood.

    Good video. Thank you.
When I used to eat bacon, I used a standard cooker grill, mostly.
I’m not rigidly opposed to new appliances, but many are poor substitutes for a conventional oven, grill, hob, or barbecue.
While I’m here, there are so many variables, including the processing of the meats. The bulking, with brining etc etc. Obvious when frying, when that white gelatinous residue lines the edges (yuk!)

Cook the bacon in the SAGE on the baking tray, with foil in. Preheat the oven and cook at 180C Fan, on roast setting and it will cook perfectly. The time is a matter of preference to get it as crispy as you wish.

Tip for cleaning the ninja airfry rack. Place the rack in the pot with enough water to cover the rack's wire bars and add the juice of half a Lemon.
Bring to the boil then turn off. Place the pressure cooker lid on and and leave for half an hour.
The built up grease will soften enough to be removed with a dish brush.

Nothing beats pan frying bacon. It keeps it moist untill you've exhausted the fats to a crispy texture.
    Airfrying is Air-drying.
Quite the opposite to pan frying. It's cooked but dry.
My preferences for cooking bacon are
    1. Pan fry
    2. Air dry
    3. Oven baked
    4. Steam or Poach
    5. Microwave. But only if absolutely necessary.

I didn't think covering up the bottom elements in the sage was a problem as you still have the top elements, plus the fan moving the air - just like a normal air fryer or even a grill. I'd put a tray under personally as without will discolour the oven and be a pain to clean in no time.... might smoke too. Treat them as you would chicken wings.

My Air-fryer basket says not to use with dripping foods ... *perhaps you need to use the roasting pan with the rack.* Next you can put aluminum foil over the bottom tray to help protect it from getting the grease and burning the tray. Can't do much about the guards that protect the elements. Any drippings that hit the elements gets pretty much burnt up and they looked in good shape still. Sometimes when I needed to cook a lot of bacon I put it on a broil tray in the oven top rack. You of course will need to flip it half way but I think it will turn out better and perhaps even faster.

I soak greasy baked on stuff in hot water containing soda crystals. It then cleans off really easily. I used to have a special ridged plastic plate to cook bacon in the microwave and it was good. Think I must have lost it when we moved to Cyprus. x

Might have benefited from a bit of spray oil on the meaty bits, in the pan obviously it's swimming in its own fat so you get an even crisp.

Neither of them wins for me. The one that wins is the one that requires an easy clean up. I just throw rashers in the bottom of an air fryer basket with nothing else in. Then once done it's just a simple task of washing out the basket. 5 second job. No washing of wire racks and the sage you'll have to clean the bottom. Getting good quality bacon is also a must.

@@laurarules3642 yeah but tbf it was for a video and he was just seeing which cooked it best. The sage for me for how multi function it is seems like a brill bit of kit. Mainly the shape of it and it cooks pizza. It would be ideal for a caravan or someone in a small flat. But for me personally how easy something is to clean after cooking is the main thing to consider. I've got a twin airfryer and I just throw the bacon in the basket, removing that plate they give you to put in the bottom. Let it cook and then wash out the basket. Like I said good quality bacon is ideal, Gaz looked to have good bacon or a lot more sh*te would have come out of it.

I'm going to cook the same kind of bacon in my combi microwave/oven/grill and take photos before during and after, with the time it takes to get crispy 🥓 to compare with your experiment. I haven't got an air fryer anyway.
I'll be using a microwave cover over the food so no splatters...but not with the grill on.
Be back with results tomorrow after buying the bacon 😋😁

I put oven racks in a black rubbish hag with a cup of household ammonia . Seal the top with a rubber band, shake gently and leave outside overnight. The next day, open carefully, take the rack out and wash in hot soapy water. The black on any tray will brush off or scour easily. The ammonia can be poured into the outside sink gully . This method would work with your slow cooker rack.

I think streaky bacon might've been a better bet than middle back - no thick areas of flesh, and an even spread of fat throughout the bacon. I always wash grill pans, trays etc from the oven by hand - the dishwasher never gets them properly clean. Plus I can use a wire wool pad (not a brillo pad), as someone has already mentioned, for extra sparkle. Useful experiment tho' 👍👍👍

The Sage is absolutely no good for cooking bacon on Airfry and why would you running the risk of mess over the elements. As I've said commenting on a previous vid, the whole idea of Air frying is saving time and energy costs, where the Sage without a doubt fails over the ninja, as the ninja would cook the bacon quicker and from a cold start . As you have said a complete "Pointless execise" !
One tip which I think someone has commented is to clean after every use on both appliances .

I have an instant pot duo crisp. which does just about everything. although not everything perfect.. and it gets very dirty ...baked on.. and I clean it all the time. the first couple months great then the sh.. dirt started building up and it wont come off. Now this appliance does loads of things really well and fast. but its like everything else you find yourself going back to the oven or the pan (Bacon).
the best thing for cleaning was My (which I dont use much) Halogen oven.. like a great big bowl fish bowl.. dead easy to clean...and fast to... do a whole roast no prob.. anyway. Bacon is best done in a pan. In my opinion. good one Gagga.

Forget about frying bacon on the stovetop or baking it in the oven - air fryers are where it's at! Not only is it a healthier option with less oil needed, but it's also super convenient for those busy mornings when you need to multi-task. Plus, it produces perfectly crispy bacon every time without any burnt or soggy bits. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you for using an air fryer to cook your bacon. So go ahead, join the air fryer bacon revolution - your breakfast will never be the same again!
