Love the conversation between Liz and Burke, that moment she thanks him for offering to help is actually really touching. Their relationship is beginning to change, noticeably here for the first time
+Joseph Arturi Im glad they decided to lose the Southern accent later on, but it is amusing to hear him trying it! Not sure if that was the intention, but I know the accent did change somewhat.
The enmity between Burke and Liz is no longer believable. He's been too involved with the Collins, helping them. He's becoming indispensable to them. It's good to have a real man around the house.
YES! Enter John Karlen as Willie Loomis, James Hall was ok but I thought Karlen was a huge improvement from his very first scene, which was also one of Mrs. Johnson's best scenes. Karlen is one of my favorite actors from Dark Shadows, he has great chemistry with Mitchell Ryan and Alexandra Moltke here, and would prove to have equally good chemistry with Denis Patrick and Nancy Barett. None of them came close, however, to the chemistry he would soon have with Jonathan Frid
A real wealthy family would have already turned Jason into fertilizer. That would leave Willie powerless and Liz could let Burke kick his ass all the way around the block.
In the future, whenever they swapped out one actor for another - even if only temporarily - they would alert the audience with a "today, the part of ___________ will be played by ____________" in the opening credits. Apparently, they hadn't come up with that idea yet (we've already seen two Matthew Morgans and two Sam Evans).
They did make an announcement when David Ford took over the role of Sam. This episode did have the announcer say "The part of Willie Loomis will be played by John Karlen" AFTER the opening credits with a slide of the Dark Shadows logo. That was originally included with the VHS set but removed for the DVD's for some reason.
Gosh, Vicki should get some self defence lessons or something, because she keeps getting in trouble. At least that way she'd stop being a damsel in distress.
+Jovonna Holman I agree. Of course Willie was supposed to be a creep at first. Some roles were just MEANT for some actors and the role of Willie was MEANT for John Karlen.
Burke is great, but I think he might have made things worse there. He's not in the house 24/7 and now he's just made Willie more aggressive once he leaves. Also why does he hate Liz? She hasn't done anything, it was all Roger. And the Collins family thing is just nonsense. Even in the manslaughter trial it was still just Roger's bad, and I don't think anything like it has happened since.
Willie's an idiot for thinking he can whip Burke. And, as if Burke wasn't bad enough, wait until Willie takes on the Vampire, and we all know who that is.
Lovely! Yet again mrs.j lets her mouth rattle off with gossip to the "nice normal " willy! ! Thats even after she she gave him moral lessons with Bible quotes! Im sooo happy to see the real willy! !
Typical women...Save me from the scary man! But don't fight him, just hug him & ask him nicely to go away. BTW, I'm a woman & I hate the way this kind of women act!

This is one of my favorite episodes. GREAT performances by everyone!!!!
Love this show so much. I can't wait for barnabas to come!
That was a great first scene with Mrs Johnson which introduced John Karlen as Willie. He's a natural.
thank god the good Willie is back!! he is coolzie, not just icky like the other one.
love his fright makeup
Its interesting to hear a southern accent done by a person w/ a NY accent!
+Joseph Arturi Im glad they decided to lose the Southern accent later on, but it is amusing to hear him trying it! Not sure if that was the intention, but I know the accent did change somewhat.
I like Brooklyn Willie better than southern Willie.
Yes. Love this Willy so much better. ❤
I love Burke's sweet friendship with Victoria and how protective he is of the Collinsport women. Too bad Liz's pride won't let anyone in.
About Willies fascination with Barnabas's jewels, you know what they say,"Curiosity killed the cat."LOL!
The enmity between Burke and Liz is no longer believable. He's been too involved with the Collins, helping them. He's becoming indispensable to them. It's good to have a real man around the house.
14:33 such a sweet scene between Liz and Burke ♡ Lot of chemistry between the 2 of them, on screen and off screen I'm sure.....☆
+tribbletroubles212 ... I agree. Burke's scumbag-ness has just gone down a few notches.
Now we got the real Willy

John Karlen rules!!!
Absolutely !!!
A real wealthy family would have already turned Jason into fertilizer. That would leave Willie powerless and Liz could let Burke kick his ass all the way around the block.
It's 1966 and they are wealthy. Where is the TV set?
In the future, whenever they swapped out one actor for another - even if only temporarily - they would alert the audience with a "today, the part of ___________ will be played by ____________" in the opening credits. Apparently, they hadn't come up with that idea yet (we've already seen two Matthew Morgans and two Sam Evans).
Its like you could see the progression as it goes and they learned as they went

Oh good grief let Burke have him - dang it!
When did Willie become Mrs. Johnson's nephew?
Liz seems to be drinking from an empty teacup in the very first scene.
Does anyone know why the part of Willie Loomis was recast?
I think that Dan Curtis was NOT happy with how the first actor was handling the role. ... And the Willie role is very important
Anybody know why they switched actors for the role of Willy Loomis?
I wondered the same thing, but John Karlen was so good he made you quickly forget James Hall. Karlen owned the Willie role!
LadyDuck106 that is the same as with the new Sam Evans
castletriglav
Not John Karlen he's a great actor, we're talking about the original Willie Loomis played by James Hall and he only lasted 5 episodes.
***** I agree, he seemed to have difficulty with his delivery.
Gosh, Vicki should get some self defence lessons or something, because she keeps getting in trouble. At least that way she'd stop being a damsel in distress.
Announcer: "The part of Willie Loomis is being played by John Karlen"
tapeduk I think the only time this was done was only for temporary substitutes, not permanent replacements.
atlantic 11561 It was done for this episode--it has been cut out here
Here's Willie!
John Karlen played that role perfectly. Willie was such a jerk at first then became a good guy.
+Holly B The other guy seem pervy!
+Jovonna Holman I agree. Of course Willie was supposed to be a creep at first. Some roles were just MEANT for some actors and the role of Willie was MEANT for John Karlen.

I like John Karlen as Willie much better.I just think he was great in the role.

I like Burke
+Rose Kosa Me too ~ and I love that him and Vicki are spending time together. :)
Lovely! Yet again mrs.j lets her mouth rattle off with gossip to the "nice normal " willy! ! Thats even after she she gave him moral lessons with Bible quotes! Im sooo happy to see the real willy! !
helen anderson I always way preferred John Karlen.
helen anderson A pity that Mrs. J could not cook as well as she dusted! :D
Well we can't see the house very well up close maybe Mrs Johnson did a bad job dusting just as bad as her cooking! ! ; 0)
I totally prefer John Karlen! The other actor was totally snake oily scuzzy sleazy!!!
They changed Willie
he looks like marty mcfly
For the better
John Karlen was entirely likable. The other Willie was just a depraved creep (acting or not). Plus Karlen is a really top guy in person, still is!
+Gringo I never made it to any of the Dark Shadows conventions but did watch some on UA-cam. He and the others seemed like great people.
I love John karlen. He is a great actor. I feel kinda bad that I really wanted Burke to knock the tar out him.
+Holly B I don't feel badly at all!!!
+stormwatcher59 You're mean. 😄
Typical women...Save me from the scary man! But don't fight him, just hug him & ask him nicely to go away. BTW, I'm a woman & I hate the way this kind of women act!
