  • It was a treat to film the DC-9 traffic at ATL before they were retired. The last Delta DC-9 flight took place January 6, 2014.

    This is a nice video. I can imagine that had to have been hard for the pilots who flew them and also all the flight attendants who served passengers on them. They become like your office and you know them like the back of your hand. They were nice aircraft. They will be missed!

      Thank you! I can't imagine how difficult it must be for the DC-9 flight crews to part ways with an aircraft with so much reliability and character. All of the sights and sounds of this classic airliner will be missed.

    Flew the DC-9-50 with Delta many times and even with Northwest when they had them. Miss them a lot. One of my favorites.

      I definitely miss these too and really enjoyed flying on the -30's when Northwest/Delta still had them. One of the last passenger airliners with some character.

    Since the reg. # ends w/ NC, this aircraft was originally North Central Airlines. It has the odd history of wearing 4 names w/o technically changing airlines. Through mergers this bird has been North Central, Republic, Northwest, and Delta.

    I'm a huge fan of the JT8D as well. I try to fly the MD 80s as much as I can. Canadian North still flies the 737-200 combi with the JT8D engines

      Definitely take advantage of those MD-80s while you can. Would love to hop on Canadian North soon. After researching, it looks like they already took the combi off the Edmonton - Yellowknife route. Last year that was low hanging fruit with cheaper fares. Kicking myself for not doing it.

      Matt Moyes I wish each airline would just keep 1 or 2 of them in rotation for us aviation lovers.

    even here @Venezuela the dc9 is fading away, only a -51 left (first owner finnair '78). But we still have plenty of MD80 time to go 8)

      @@LoveJT8D I agree, I have sat there by design and still can hear that turbine whine/buzz right next to my ear like it was yesterday. Flew on North Central and Republic DC-9s a lot, I was very fortunate.

      I believe that is exhaust soot that causes discoloring when the clamshell thrust reversers are deployed. You can also see that soot on 737-200 models that have white paint with the same kind of engines. It could also be exhaust soot from the APU.

    Was this type ever re-designated MD-85?

    • @LoveJT8D
      @LoveJT8D  2 роки тому

      I don’t think it was. If memory serves me correctly, the newer stretched “DC-9” family that was originally DC-9-80 then was designated MD-80, 81, 82, 83, 88. Then lastly MD-95 which was changed to 717.

    At 04:17 you can see that the inner flap actuator on the left wing has lost its housing or cover
