Cindy, I especially like your Part 5. People like to help, and people find joy in helping others. That said, they are also human with many things going on. They like to be thanked, appreciated, and having mistakes forgiven graciously. You point out so well that our job is to fit in with those who can help. This applies to any form of disability or inherent need; thank you.

The information in this video is fantastic, thank you. For some reason, closed captioning seems to think the language being spoken is Vietnamese, which is creating very bizarre English subtitles. This is the only video it's happening to on my end. Is this something you can fix on your end?

I absolutely loved this video Cindy and especially the way you phrased it all. The fact that we don’t just automatically know the right language and vocabulary do use when we’re advocating without the proper time and practice is so true as the fact that our ability to self advocate is contingent upon not only our own self view of what it means to have our disability but the way we know others would receive both and that wording to feel like by disclosing or needs or accommodations it would make others perceive us in a negative way or view us with incorrect but damaging stereotypes about our lack of capabilities. Finding a way to advocate for itself in a new situation which we have not been in before it’s also really challenging because we might not know how we can accommodate a certain thing until we try it and that could involve a great deal of trial and error until we find out as you said not sure what accommodations other views and what technology may be out there to assist us, but just as importantly which out of those work for our individual learning styles and which we prefer over ones that we do not find helpful

@@SeeingBlind thanks, I appreciate that. Let me know if you ever want to film a Callaberation video. I thought maybe we can do one on the perspective blind parent versus the perspective a blind daughter who is young/emerging adult. My channel is super new and I haven’t posted many videos yet but I think we could have a lot of topics to cover together about being visually impaired in different aspects of family life

    Hey Cindy!
Thank you so much for this! I teach the young adults I work with who are also Blind and Visually Impaired about self-advocacy.
So it was wonderful hearing your thoughts on it and strategies on how to do it effectively. You really nailed how vulnerable advocating for yourself can make you feel and why you might not want to do it. I really appreciated hearing that as well as all the reasons you should advocate for yourself to make sure your needs are met. I like to remember that the things we advocate for our things that we need, not things we want. It's also important to remember that when we get accommodations, especially in school or work, or not getting anything extra, we're getting what we need in order to access information on equal level to our peers so that we can reach our true potential of being good students and employees. What are some ways you suggest repaying the favor when friends and family do something nice for you like give you rides. Also, how do you think we could pay it forward to others who might need things we can offer?

Hey friend! Thank you so much for tuning in. I am so glad you found this video useful and hopefully your students will also. Sometimes reminding ourselves of the basics helps keep life in perspective. As far as paying it forward, I think there’s several things we can do. Sometimes, that southern hospitality comes out in me and I offered to provide a meal. My husband is a fan of providing alcohol lol. One of my goals this year is to create some channel March. This will include some T-shirts expressing gratitude to those who help the blind and visually impaired in appropriate ways. Still working on designs! But, the purpose is to give these as gifts to friends and loved ones.

This is an excellent video! I identify with so many of these. Learning to advocate is such a challenge. It is so hard to ask for what we need at times. Also, this filming spot is so nicely lit. I love it.

Hey there, and I am so sorry it’s taken me so long to reply. Can you explain your question a bit more? Not sure I completely understand but I would love to help and address your question.
